Jet Tub With A View

Hi guys.

What are my hotel options if I want a room with a jetted tub that I can sit in and still have a view out of the window?

Many thanks in advance :)

Jet Tub With A View

Two that jumped out at me are Luxor%26#39;s Pyramid Spa Suite and MGM%26#39;s Celebrity Spa Suite...i think that is the name. Im sure there are more, but drawing 0 now...

Jet Tub With A View

Palms Place - Some of the suites have a tub that you can see out the bedroom window.

I saw a pic of a suite at the Rio that had a tub with a view as well. I don%26#39;t know the name of that suite.

I believe the Rio suite is the Masquerade Suite. Years ago we were lucky enough to get upgraded from a regular room to the Masquerade Suite. It was a wonderful room with a great view of the strip (from a little distance since it%26#39;s off strip) from throughout the suite, including the large jetted tub. Since the room was the curved end of the hotel, the view is 180 degrees. The suite is also very large, I checked their site and it says 1600 sq ft.

Trump%26#39;s one bedroom suites have great big windows with great views (if you have a south strip view.)

Bellagio, Salone Suite or Tower Deluxe room (both are corner rooms.) One Bedroom suites at the Augustus Tower at Caesars.

Bellagio Penthouse if you can afford it. It%26#39;s been several years, but great view eating chocolate covered strawberries from VIP with some DOM.

Skylofts @ MGM Grand (Terrace)

The Panorama suites at PH have a retractable sliding door so you have a view of the Strip.

Also at PH, I had a resort vista room with a jetted tub and a view of the Fountains.

The Monte Carlo ';Spa Suite';. The tub is right in front of the window. It was great.

Warm enough for t-shirts/shorts??

Hi! We%26#39;re going to Vegas on March 7th. Will it be warm enough for summer clothes?

Or should we bring jeans/sweatshirts? We%26#39;re in CT, so we%26#39;re looking forward to the warmer weather considering we%26#39;re getting 10 inches of snow tomorrow night.

Thanks!!

Warm enough for t-shirts/shorts??

Definitely. I got a sunburn in Vegas last week. It was a little breezy at night but downright warm during the days.

Warm enough for t-shirts/shorts??

There is no way to answer that question this far in advance. The temps in March can really change quickly from one week (or even a few days) to another. I don%26#39;t think weather forecasts are that accurate one week or more in advance. Right now they are predicting a high of 61 and a low of 39 for the 7th. On the 8th- high/68 and low/43. 9th-high/72 and low/42. But that can all change by the time you are ready to leave on the 7th(or even when you are there). You are going to have to check a weather site just before leaving but it is always best to bring some clothes that can be layered so you will be prepared for any kind of weather.

I would pack a few extra warm clothes just in case. Last year we came out in May thinking it would be just as warm as every year--80ish. Weather forecast was 70-80 but 2 days into our week long trip the temp dropped to mid 40%26#39;s with wind and I wore jeans and a sweaters the rest of the trip.

Best bet is to check the forecast on www.weather.com or www.accuweather.com, then finalize your packing, but still plan for warmer/cooler.

We were in Las Vegas last year March 2-8 and the forecast (which was quite accurate) predicted chilly, increasingly warmer every day. However, temps, that time of year, drop dramatically when the sun sets, and breezes (winds) require additional outerwear. And, it was overcooled inside, just about everywhere, regardless of the outdoor weather. Even when it was sunny/warm, this was only for a few hours in the afternoon.

If your flights include connections (or not), be prepared for weather delays/cancellations!

Last March, our flight from LAS was delayed several hours and barely missed being cancelled, and our connecting flight, the last flight of the day, was ultimately cancelled. Next available flight was Tuesday (reschedule from Saturday), so we ended up renting a car and driving the rest of the way (from Newark to NH). We were, we thought, ';fortunate'; to get through to Continental on the phone and find this out. All the hotels in the area were booked solid, so we would have been some even more upset if we spent the night at the dreadful Newark airport only to learn that we couldn%26#39;t get on a flight home the next day. Our bags were a whole other story!

Good luck!

  • GRand Canyon from Vegas.. possible ??

Is it possible to hire a jeep and drive to the Grand Canyon for a day trip from Las Vegas?

If so, can anyone give me details... ie : drive time ; route ; car hire companies???

    THANKS !!

GRand Canyon from Vegas.. possible ??

You will find few, if any will recommend a day trip to the GC. It is a five hour drive each way. You need to spend the night in or near the park to appreciate all the GC has to offer.

Best, really only, route is thru Hoover Dam to Kingman, AZ on Hwy 93. At Kingman take I40 east to Williams, AZ. Hwy. 64 north to the park enterance.

Take your pick of many rentals available at LAS.

GRand Canyon from Vegas.. possible ??

What a lot of people fail to realize is that the Grand Canyon is one of the world%26#39;s grand natural wonders and a destination in its own right. It%26#39;s not just another thing to be checked off of a list of things to do see whilst in Vegas like the Bellagio fountains or Fremont Street Experience.

As previous poster said, drive to South Rim and stay overnight in order to experience and appreciate GC in all its glory.

  • Ka at Tix 4 Tonight

I have noticed they have been offering them the past few days and we will be there next week. For those of you who have seen it, are there bad seats you would stay away from or any other seating recommendations?

In general, when you buy tickets there do you get to pick your seats for the shows or do you have to go to will-call at the box office? We usually buy direct ahead of time but we are leaving a few nights up in the air and would love to see Ka if it is still offered at a 40% discount.

    Ka at Tix 4 Tonight

I saw KA the other week( it%26#39;s awesome) and we sat right in the centre in the front block of seats - really good seats. However from teh look of the theatre I cant imagine there would be an especially bad seat from the way it%26#39;s designed. Not sure I would want to sit right at the front though.... so probably middle centre. All the seats have speakers in them so you get great sound too.

    Enjoy!

    Ka at Tix 4 Tonight

When you buy your discount tickets, you get a voucher that you have to take to the theater box office to exchange for show tickets. The earlier you get to the box office with your voucher, the better choice of seats you%26#39;ll have. (box office opens at noon I believe).

There are no bad seats in that theater. I think that being right up front would make for a different experience, but you might not catch everything. Still it might make for a good time. I found the show dragged at times. So in your face might help with this.

    Hello,

We sat in the last row in the middle. It was too far back. Sit in the middle of the theatre. Fantastic show, for me, I think their best

Reminder Keep checking rates esp. Bellagio

I booked a week ago at Belligo with the new deal unparralled escapes, i booked one full lakeview and one standard delux. I noticed today same deal and the dates were cheaper. I called and was on the phone no more than 10 min and she changed both reservations to match new prices and emailed me a copy of it all and I saved 279.00 all together. Just please keep checking and make that call its super easy and we all could use the savings...

I booked for july6-10 for reference and it was 119 and now 96.75 for those nights..

Reminder Keep checking rates esp. Bellagio

    Hey flygal,

I book this week using the same offer for 3 nights in September. The rates dropped from $149 to $129 and with the unparralled escapes the price went down to 96.75. I%26#39;m excited--I booked the Bellagio for under $100 per night!! Woo Hoo!!

Reminder Keep checking rates esp. Bellagio

Where did you see these rates ?!!?

    Sorry here is the link

    https:/…

thank you for reminding me. i%26#39;m not staying at bellagio, rather Treasure Island and i had booked the room a month or 2 ago. I forgot to check for discounts or promo codes online and i just now did after seeing your posting. my original total for 4 nights was close to $650 and with what i found, the total is now $440. yay!

    omg

    i LOVE you flygal !!!

we are staying 6 nights in december, massive savings

Where did you find that link anyways From web offers ?

I don%26#39;t get web offers as i%26#39;m not in the US $(*$#*$#

rewn: I received an email with the offer in it, but i have seen it on several of the sites that offer discount codes and the like.

I got the promo code from fat wallet. the promo code was BSPR25.

Thanks for the heads up on this!

I booked 4/7-4/10 at $159. Got an email about an offer for 129, so I called and they gave me the new rate. Tomorrow I will call again and hopefully change to this rate!

    Thanks again!

    Mitzi

When I first started checking in Mid January for first week of March stay, the Bellagio Website Special was $149+Tax. I booked it.

In mid February I checked again, rate went down to $139. This week I checked and it%26#39;s now $109.

I contacted the Bellagio by e-mail each time and the hotel quickly changed my res to reflect the new rate. It%26#39;s good advice to keep checking.

    Wynn Tower Suite Question?

On the Wynn website under Tower Suites/Pools and Cabanas there is a picture - some of the rooms are on the first floor level with a wrought iron balcony and stripy canopy similar to a cabana. Which of the Tower suite rooms are these?

    Wynn Tower Suite Question?

    Bump for Wynn people...

    Wynn Tower Suite Question?

I%26#39;m gonna channel Bridge on this one and suggest you call the hotel and ask them.

I think you are talking about the Fairway Villas. I%26#39;ve never actually seen one, but I%26#39;ve read a couple of TR%26#39;s about them.

On this board, maybe Bart (BeeJay and many other names) stayed in one. And on a few other boards I%26#39;m pretty sure MikeE has posted TR%26#39;s with photos. Try doing a google search.

    Cough...Fairway Villa%26#39;s go for about hmm 5k a night.

Fairway Villas. And, like all Vegas rooms, their rates vary. $5000 a nite is on the very, very high side. They are much more commonly occupied by casino players. As it should be.

Thank God. I play in their casino!

You%26#39;re almost in a 2br. FV Low. Now to change those cheques from red to yellow and white.

I don%26#39;t believe those are rooms, just fancy cabanas. You can see them by the pool in this satellite photo (note that these photos don%26#39;t always center correctly, so you may need to move them around a bit).

    maps.live.com/default.aspx…

Fairway Villas overlook the golf course. See

    maps.live.com/default.aspx…

The really swank stuff are these babies:

    maps.live.com/default.aspx…

ZekeKelso - looking at the map link they are the ones overlooking the small oval pool - not fairway villas - but on the photo they are made of concrete/brick and are on 2 floors - french windows on ground floor and balcony above - so I felt they couldn%26#39;t be just a cabana - could they?

Good one Zeke. I should have looked at the link to begin with as all the FV overlook the 18th fairway. The ladies there are a sight to see when one walks up the fairway on hot days.

    2 beds requested at Bellagio.

Do you guys know if there%26#39;s a good way to guarantee getting two beds at check-in at the MGM brand hotels? I put my parents at the Bellagio for next weekend, and requested 2 queen beds b/c my uncle decided to tag along. I asked for 2 beds when making the reservation, but they said they don%26#39;t guarantee it. Can I call a couple of hours before my parents arrive and request 2 beds? Do the Single King or Double Queens usually fill up first? Thanks for any advice.

    2 beds requested at Bellagio.

Best thing to do is to ask the front desk itself during arrival. Your request should have been noted alongside your reservation when you made it. It should be of no trouble getting that request at check in.

    2 beds requested at Bellagio.

Depends what time your parents check in and how patient they are. Should be no problem but if not available during the day, they could just wait it out until a double bed room opens up. Checking in 10PM or later and they could be SOL until the next morning.

The rooms with one king bed are usually taken up first.

I stayed at Bellagio week beginning 16th Feb.

When my sister and I arrived at the desk, the clerk just asked if we required two beds.

I am sure they will do the same when they know there will be three people in the room.

BTW if your uncle is bunking in without the hotel knowing then make sure he uses one of your parents room keys as everyone is challenged at the elevators.

    ';Do you guys know if there%26#39;s a good way to guarantee getting two beds at check-in... ';

yes, this is quite easy - inform the hotel you have 3 people.

Best place to get classic cocktails in Las Vegas?

When I say classic cocktail I mean old school-the exact opposite of a cosmopolitan or a cranberry vodka. Im talking about the kind of drink that is usually whiskey or gin based and is made by mixing a bunch of different types of liquors and is usually almost all liquor (they often use ingredients like bitters or compari, etc.).

Any ideas of a where some good classic cocktail places in vegas would be?

Best place to get classic cocktails in Las Vegas?

The good thing is that classic cocktails and the methods to make them are making a resurgence at the moment. The bad news is that LV is slow to catch on and the majority of cocktails in Vegas are all about volume and colour rather than mixology.

To get REALLY good classic cocktails I think you need to go one of two ways in Vegas. Option 1 is visit places which just have not changed since %26#39;classic%26#39; cocktails were last in fashion... Hugos, Peppermill, Piero%26#39;s etc.... The 2 option is to go to some of the new wave bars that have gone back to the roots of cocktail making (Punches, Sours, Slings, Cobblers, Shrubs, Toddies, Flips) such as Noir Bar, Boa or Stir Lounge.

For what it is worth here are my fav 4 classic cocktails that I%26#39;ve had in Vegas:

Frankie%26#39;s Tiki Room - Mai Tai

    SW Steakhouse - Old Fashioned

    Mix - Classic Martini

    Fontana Bar - Peach Bellini

Hope I haven%26#39;t bored you too much!

Best place to get classic cocktails in Las Vegas?

did you like tikis room and was it worth the taxi over there?

Frankie%26#39;s Tiki Room is all time and definitely worth the taxi trip. You%26#39;ll save money in paying $8 for a drink rather than $14 at somewhere like Trader Vic%26#39;s.

There are a couple of members of the forum who know far more about Tiki drinks than someone like me and they seem to rank Frankie%26#39;s very highly. The Zombie at Frankie%26#39;s is one of the best hangover cures I have every had :)

My favorite is a Jack Daniels Manhattan Straight Up. I haven%26#39;t had much trouble getting this made right at most places.

    Thanks!

I%26#39;ll definitely check a couple of those places out

  • cheapest flights from London Heathrow?

Does anyone know the cheapest website for flights from Heathrow to Vegas, not bothered if they are direct or not.

    cheapest flights from London Heathrow?

By ';direct'; I take it you mean non-stop. There are no non-stop LHR-LAS flights. The only non-stop flight out of London to Vegas is the Virgin service from Gatwick.

This link should help with what you%26#39;re looking for:

    http://www.kayak.co.uk/

Expedia and other travel sites can also be good tools for this sort of research.

    cheapest flights from London Heathrow?

BA offers flights but they don%26#39;t throw up many options to choose from. American, Undited, Northwest and I think Continental all fly to the US via Heathrow. With American you usually fly via Dallas, Chicago or LA. Continental would be via Newark or Houston, Northwest would be via either Minneapolis or Detroit. United would be via Chicago most likely.

Kayak is good for looking for flights, when you find one you want to book it takes you directly the the airline website for booking. You can also check Expedia, but most likely it works best to bok via the airlines website unless you book a package deal.

I use kayak.com to look for flight prices but they would be scheduled flights and will not cover package holiday flights.

Be aware that kayak.com is the US site. UK residents should use kayak.co.uk when looking for flights originating from the UK.

i have found opodo expedia good sites and last year i boked with www.justtheflight.co.uk.

got good price and no problems

this year booke with hayes and jarvis

    hope this helps

    x x

    Try travelsupermarket.com

There are lots of indirect flights but they take a serious long time. If you can afford the extra money then go Virgin. They take just over 10 hours. Others can take up to 19 hours.

Question re prices on hotel.com and expedia.com

On websites like hotel.com and expedia.com, some of the hotels say that they are 40% off and have the old prices crossed out with the special prices in red. Some just say ';Best Price'; with nothing crossed out. My question is, might those %26#39;best price'; establishments still reduce their prices further, or is that price likely the best that I am going to get?

Question re prices on hotel.com and expedia.com

With hotels.com you have the option to cancel your reservation and rebook just like if you book directly through the hotel. If you see a price you like on hotels.com I would book it now. You always have the option to cancel and take the lower price if it becomes available.

Question re prices on hotel.com and expedia.com

Those ';40% off'; and ';low price guarantees'; are totally misleading, especially Expedia ';special rates';.

The ONLY way to know the ';best price'; is to search this forum for rate/promotions/discount codes and diligently shop all possible resources. Believe me, you can save a bundle and stay at the same properties.

For Las Vegas, generally speaking, the very best rates are by booking directly with the hotel, and finding discount/promotional codes to use when booking directly. If rates go down (which they do more often than not) you can have yours lowered with a phone call. And, rates do fluctuate, up and down, so it%26#39;s prudent to check regularly once you%26#39;ve reserved.

Thanks for the tips. The rooms I am interested in specifically say ';non-refundable';, that%26#39;s why I want to make sure they are not likely to be reduced before booking (actually, I think I am supposed to pay upon booking).

Cheeky, as others have said you definitely want to do your research. In this econoomy depending on your timing there%26#39;s a very good chance that prices will trend down.

Some of the ';sales'; on Expedia and Hotels.com are legetimate (sp?) and some marketing hype. Read the terms and conditions and cancellation penalties carefully. I%26#39;ve used both on ocassion and have had no problems. Got a free cabana at Hard Rock for instance through Expedia so I definitely include these sites in my research.

Downside as you say is you pay 100% upfront, vs 1 night room deposit by booking directly. Last I recall Expedia has a $25 cancellation fee and Hotels.com $0 unless the specific property has their own cancellation fee which they pass along.

I know I had a fantastic rate through Hotels.com for the Tuscany for my Dec 2008 trip. Then I got a really good promo rate direct from the Rio and I went that route. Cancelled the Hotels.com booking and it was refunded fully.

I would say go through the hotel. Very rarely does Expedia offer a price that you can%26#39;t get by booking directly with the hotel anyway. So if you know where you want to stay try booking with the hotel and let them know the price taht Expedia are offering and they should match it. Also prices in Vegas are changing frequently at the moment so by booking with the hotel you can then ask for new rates if they change. Also you can cancel most direct bookings up to 72 hours before hand without charge.

    Last Minute Trip Packages

We are trying to plan a trip to Las Vegas in May but the package costs are somewhat high. Has anyone had a positive experience with booking a last minute trip.

    Thanks for your help.

    Last Minute Trip Packages

The airfare will kill you. Almost all the airlines require 14-21 days advance purchase for better rates. The fares go up dramatically when you get closer to your travel dates.

You are probably better off booking your own airfare and then booking your room direct with the hotel.

    Last Minute Trip Packages

Thanks for the tip. I am thinking this is the best advice.

Try www.smartervegas.com for promo codes on hotels, this books directly thru the hotel and if a cheaper rate comes along you can always rebook at the cheaper price.

Back and it not able to go again for ages :(

    Hey all,

Just got back from our trip to Anaheim and Vegas last week and loved every minute of it. Car was dying so put it up for sale (and sold) while we were away. Bought a new car which has set me back $20g%26#39;s (which was hoping to win in vegas- no such luck, did win $277 tho) so as its looking unless I can live on a shoestring doesn%26#39;t look like will be able to go back for a looooooong time...

Back to work tomorrow and all depressed now with no trip to look forward to...

Back and it not able to go again for ages :(

You seriously thought you would win $20,000????

Back and it not able to go again for ages :(

Course not :) But in the back of my mind was hoping it might happen :\

think postive. start saving your money again even if it takes you all year!

I was depressed, too, when we got home to the wicked winter of upstate New York. But I do find comfort from reading these trip reports and reliving the joy of Vegas like that. Makes me ';almost'; feel like we%26#39;re there!

I also feel your pain...Mr. Ducky and I are worried about our jobs due to the economy and feel lucky we haven%26#39;t either one been laid off (or worse) yet, so we don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s appropriate to being planning any trips right now. Sooooooo there%26#39;s a MEGA party being planned for June and a good friend celebrates her 50th in Vegas early July, and we can%26#39;t plan for either. sigh

Just stay here on the forum, because it isn%26#39;t the same as planning a trip but at least gives you a feel for being there :)

Ducky, it sure is a lot cheaper to stay home and dream!

Travelover: I am glad you were not serious...I am sure there are people out there who believe this to be a real possibility. Well...it is a very remote possibility I guess! And depends on what you want to sink into it.If you have $20,000 to blow you might make it back!

My expectation is to come home broke...if I win, all the better!

MGM Grand - West Wing King Room or Grand Tower Room?

    Hi

We%26#39;ve finally narrowed it down to be MGM Grand for our 2 day stay in July - however we can%26#39;t decide on which room to go for...

In the photos I%26#39;ve seen it seems as though there%26#39;s no windows in the West Wing King Rooms, and in the room description there%26#39;s no mentioning of any windows... It can%26#39;t be a windowless room, can it????

Which floors are the rooms located on? We would like to go as high as possible :-)

    Thanks

MGM Grand - West Wing King Room or Grand Tower Room?

I (and it would seem a majority of others) would opt for a Grand Tower room. West Wing is considered an upgrade but a lot of people can%26#39;t work out why this is the case..... :-)

MGM Grand - West Wing King Room or Grand Tower Room?

Stick to the other parts of the hotel as far as I am concerned.

The West Wing is the oldest part of the hotel, although the rooms are remodelled, the rooms are smaller than the rest of the hotel, and few would offer much of a view, as it%26#39;s the shortest part of the whole building.

Most of the West Wing rooms have a small window above the bed, but not a window you actually gaze out of.

I have a simple rule about West Wing room advice: If the poster uses the word WE in his question I strongly advise against this room. IMO this room should never be used by more than 1 person. That%26#39;s how small it is. But most importantly the bathroom is a joke. Most couples want a sink and vanity in the bath, and most importantly many are uncomfortable without a bathroom door.

Also, if you should decide that you do want this room because you think ';it%26#39;s only 2 nights, we can stay in anything for 2 nights'; DO NOT pay a higher rate for it. Just book a regular room and request a free upgrade to the West Wing when you check in. I promise you they will gladly give you this room at no charge as they can never sell them all.

Oh my - I%26#39;m so glad I asked here in the forums. I was not at all aware about the ';no-bathroom-door';-issue :-D That for sure made the decision easy... But the arguments regarding room size in general and the small above-bed-window are a good points.

    Thank you SO much!

There is a door (it%26#39;s almost like a shower door though) to the toilet, but the bathroom itself is not really a separate room, I like it it%26#39;s very modern, but yes it%26#39;s a bit small for a couple.

Go with the Grand Tower room. If you want you can try the $20.00 trick at check -in and see if you can get upgraded to a Bungalow Suite. Bypass the West wing altogether..the room isn%26#39;t too hot to say the least.

We got ';upgraded'; to a West Wing room on our last trip. I actually really liked it. We weren%26#39;t in the room much, so the smallness wasn%26#39;t an issue.

The best part of the WW is that you can get out of the MGM without having to trek halfway through the casino. There%26#39;s a great little side door. Also, there%26#39;s a Starbucks essentially right at the exit from the WW elevators.

I liked the modern decor. There was a bathroom door, it was a huge glass thing.

Grand Tower Room i loved it.

Thanks for all your input - it%26#39;s a great help.

Btw - is there a room size difference between rooms with 1 king bed compared to a room with 2 queens?

Same square footage. They can%26#39;t move walls to accommodate beds, lol

  • Spa for Mom and teen

We%26#39;re staying at the MGM for a couple of days in June. Could someone suggest a nice reasonable place to spa for a Mom and 17 year old? I want to stay away from places that charge a %26#39;non guest%26#39; fee. Do any of the spas allow well behaved teens? We%26#39;d probably do a combination of facial, massage, pedicure or manicure. Thanks in advance for any reply!

    Spa for Mom and teen

what is ';reasonable'; to you? Give us the dollar amount you are willing to pay - of the 4 items you listed what do you want in the combination?

Almost all spas have the menu with prices posted online - you can call to confirm.

pedi/mani in LV spas are high - almost 3x what I pay at home and 2x what I pay in Ft. Lauderdle. Facials and massage are just a little higher. Some spas have packages.

Almost all spas will allow anyone receiving a treatment to use the rest of the facilities as part of the cost of that treatment, is that what you mean by ';non-guests'; fee?

  • Priceline help

    Hi everyone

I%26#39;m from Australia and trying to book a room using priceline.com.... when I enter my address, the site only gives me the option of USA or Canada (in the country field).

Has anyone outside these places used pricline?

You can. The instructions are somewhere on www.biddingfortravel.com and/or www.betterbidding.com (which includes info on Hotwire as well), or you can try the Priceline UK site.

It is highly recommend that you study those websites (FAQ%26#39;s, pinned hotels, recent bookings, especially for your approximate dates) before bidding on Priceline. Hotwire is another good resource. Rates tend to be a bit higher, but it%26#39;s easier to identify specific properties, and also avoid others, such as TRUMP.

Recommend reviewing the pinned hotel lists and checking reviews on Trip Advisor.

Also, post for assistance. The administrators of both those boards are expert at what they do!

    Priceline help

    Hi

There is a way to bid on the US site using the tips on biddingfortravel but from here in the UK we can use a uk.co site, have you tried finding an Australian site?

    Clive

    www.biddingforvegas.com

Have you considered that LV is one place it usually pays to book directly through the hotel - rates fluctuate greatly, with priceline and the ilk you are locked in to a non-refundable price - and are charged as such - and have no guarantee of the property when you bid.

I urge you to book with thew hotel, watch rates, book one that can be rended/changed and get the websites for listings of prmos - such as www.fatwallet.com.

In many cities priceline is a good option, not so much in LV.

What are the exact dates of your visit? Your total room budget (rates may differ from day-to-day so don;t give us per night, give us for the entire trip)

There%26#39;s no one best way to book for Veges. While going through the hotel does have it%26#39;s advantages, I%26#39;ve gotten bargains through Priceline that are significantly cheaper than what%26#39;s available through the hotel.

Unfortunately, Priceline is now near useless for me for Vegas do the mincategorization of the Westin and Trump. But Hotwire is still a great option for those seeking rooms for less than you can get directly.

Alas, I can%26#39;t help the OP, other than to second the recommendation of better bidding and bidding for travel. But do also consider Hotwire.

    Has Anyone Used Look Tours?

Has anyone used Look Tours before? Please tell me about your good/bad experiences. Are they a good company to use?

    Has Anyone Used Look Tours?

Yes i have used them 10 times.

Overall i have been very pleased with them.

Yes there have been a couple of problems during those trips.

But nothing major, and i will use them again in the future for sure.

LookTours and AllLasVegasTours are actually both booking agents for Viator.

Just that usually they offer slightly lower prices than Viator.

    Vegas Mate on Iphone

Does anyone use VegasMate app on Iphone?- it seems like a great idea - my only problem will be finding wifi as I am from UK -hoping to split stay between Venetian/Bellagio

    Vegas Mate on Iphone

I got excited to dl it then I saw it was 5 dollars and not worth it. :(

    Vegas Mate on Iphone

Do yourself a favor. You%26#39;re going on vacation so change your voicemail greeting to tell people this, leave the number of your hotel in case of emergencies and switch your cell phone off. Switch it on again once you get home.

As crazy as this might sound, you%26#39;ll survive.... :-)

    No I won%26#39;t survive :)

VegasloverDallas - I have it and really like it - definately worth 5 dollars if you like restaurant reviews - it lists which restaurants are at which hotels and then one click takes you to the reviews - similar to tripadvisor -I have asked if they will be putting on links to the menus for each restaurant and they are hoping to do that in the future - it just needs more users to enable more reviews.

I have it and I like it. That being said, I don%26#39;t think is worthy of price tag on it. I%26#39;d say it%26#39;s truly a 1.99 ap.

But, it%26#39;s VEGAS related and I had to have it!

I have it and love it. If someone writes a new review for any nightclub, restaurant, hotel, or show they upload it, which is really cool. And I am just pumped about going to Vegas in less that a hundred days and it helps keep me grounded.

$20 check in trick at mirage??

Hello going to Vegas in April or May and keep seeing stuff about the 20 dollar check in trick..Can someone tell me what this is thinking about booking there..Thank you :)

One more thing trying to decide between the Mirage or treasure island any suggestions..we are in or 30s not picky just looking for nice clean rooms with good view and worth the money Thanks again

$20 check in trick at mirage??

Oh my gosh, IT%26#39;S NOT A TRICK. It is a bribe, and a joke to front desk people. If you want a certin room BOOK IT.

Both resorts will be fine, I like Mirage better myself. Rooms a bit nicer, pool area is great.

$20 check in trick at mirage??

just pay the money in advance and get the room you want. it is a bribe, they could keep the 20 and still put you in a rubbish room!!! book it in advance.

Ignore the rantings of these loonies.

I%26#39;ll try to help answer your question.

The las vegas tipping thread on Fatwallet shows an 80% success rate at Mirage. 28 out of 35 attempts were successful.

On 20trick.com it is showing 100% success rate. 16 out of 16.

I would say go for it. Your chances of an upgrade using the trick are extremely high.

So this $20 trick... Ive heard many people try, many succeed....I personally have never tried, so I have a bit of a stupid question (though no question is a stupid one my grade school teacher used to say)...

If you offer the ';tip'; for an upgrade, and get it, are you charged the original rate you were quoted for whatever room you originally booked, or do you get charged the nightly rate of the new room you%26#39;re upgraded to ??

I never use the $20 trick, I just try to be very courteous and friendly to the clerk. Sometimes I get nice upgrades without asking, sometimes I get told ';no way'; when I do ask.It all depends on how busy the hotel is I believe. On occaision I have had the clerk say they have to ';check'; when I have asked. What this means is that they will go check your history and status, and if you are not a premium player...nope!

Occaisionally they will give newbies a nice room to entice them to come back I believe. When I first stayed at Caesar%26#39;s Palace they gave me an Augustus Tower room overlooking the Bellagio, comped. Since then I cannot even get a regular room there comped!

To answer your question about Mirage vs TI...I believe that Mirage will be more expensive and likely no view. My preference would be Mirage but I hear that TI rooms are nice, but I have never stayed there.

';The las vegas tipping thread on Fatwallet shows an 80% success rate at Mirage. 28 out of 35 attempts were successful.

    On 20trick.com it is showing 100% success rate. 16 out of 16.';

The success rates issued by sites such as this may be fun to read but, unless every single guest who attempts the ';trick'; reports their result, are statistically irrelevant. Chances are some of those who had success could have gotten their upgrades anyway by keeping their cash in their pocket and just asking nicely. All that a 100% success rate means to me is that no unsuccessful ';tricks'; have made the effort to report back with their results.

Mirage is the nicer hotel with a way better pool area.

This trick/bribe call it what you will has worked for me on many occasions and has woked for me at the mirage. I think it funny how people grt hepped up about people using and go off on one saying its a joke and its rubbish. Just as I can not prove that I would have got the upgrade without the $20 they can not prove that the I did not get the upgrade for the $20. I must admit I generally use more than $20 and contary to what some one above quoted when they have not been able to get me the upgrade they have always offered me the $20 back I have never taken it as i am not a tight a**.

I am not sure how somone an say Mirage is unlikley to have a view that is simply not true. Just like every other hotel in town some of the rooms at MIrage have good views and others no view, if you get a room at the back of the property yopu can see way up the Strip this is a view from our room at thet front I took more but cant post them ;-))

    …flickr.com/2077/2094206166_b2a4dd4fbb.jpg…

I didn%26#39;t say that they didn%26#39;t have rooms with a view... obviously the whole hotel has ';views';. I am saying that a first timer may NOT get a room with a view of the strip! My first and only visit to the Mirage I had a view of the pool.

And just because we don%26#39;t offer a ';bribe';...';trick';...';tip';...whatever you want to call it doesn%26#39;t make us cheapa**s! I%26#39;m sure the desk clerks do not expect a tip. And I really think that $20 is ridiculous to give them for a few minutes of their time doing what they are supposed to do! Do you also give wait staff a $100 tip before they serve you? That would be a bribe, right?

The $20 trick works exactly as well as asking nicely. It seems pointless to me, but it makes lots of people happy. If you%26#39;ve got an extra $20, feel free to give it away.

As for TI vs Mirage, it all comes down to pool. If you want to spend time by a fabulous pool, go to the Mirage. Otherwise, stick with the TI.

  • First Timer with questions after doing research...

OK I%26#39;m planning on taking a trip to LV for the first time, as a graduation gift to myself for completing my MBA.

I plan on staying five nights from about May 20-25, and in addition would like to do a full day trip or an overnight trip to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

    I don%26#39;t mind paying a little premium for quality... but realistically the poker room is a huge variable for me as I do love to play. I also want to see a Cirque show, which will likely be ';O'; or ';Ka.';

    1) Signature at MGM - seems to be relatively luxury for the price, nice reviews, etc. Only real problem is that the g/f is a smoker and they appear to be non-smoking rooms only. But MGM has a Cirque show, a nice poker room, and appears to be a nice price for the quality.

    2) Bellagio - Looks nice, would like to see the fountain show as well. Read some questionable reviews and appears that it might not be as ';modern'; as i like.

    3) The Venetian - don%26#39;t feel like I know much about this one.

    4) Wynn - appears to be very nice, but again I know little about the poker room.

    5) Mirage - recommendation from a coworker who I respect.

    6) Mandalay Bay - little knowledge.

Also, with regards to the GC trip ... I have read a lot of reviews relating to some of the different package trips, companies, etc. I understand to see the GC in a day trip requires a flight (not helicopter) ... but I do want a package option that includes a helicopter ride through the GC once you take the plane ride to the South Rim. I was leaning towards Maverick. Any thoughts??

Any other thoughts for a first-timer!? I haven%26#39;t booked yet and just have lots of flexibility...

    thanks,

    Mike

First Timer with questions after doing research...

For a first timer it is all about the location, location, location...

You picked a good list of hotels, all nice, but from your list I would go with the

Mirage or Bellagio - pretty much based on location

I personally think the Bellagio is a little stuffy, very nice and I visit everytime, but not my style. I more prefer a good mix of cheap, mid-range, and upscale restaurants, shops, etc. Mirage meets that where the Bellagio is all upscale.

In terms of the poker room, as long as your on the Strip your never too far from one. Sure, it can be nice to have one located in the hotel but one is never far away so I wouldn%26#39;t totally let that influence you decision.

As for your Cirque show choices, I preferred O over KA. KA was my least favorite Cirque show that I have seen. Not bad, but it didn%26#39;t have much of the acrobatic elements that I enjoy.

First Timer with questions after doing research...

I%26#39;ve got a few thoughts for you.

First congrats on your MBA! A trip to LV will be a great reward.

We%26#39;ve been to Vegas a dozen times and stayed at various hotels. You mentioned ';modern'; rooms. THE HOTEL @ Mandalay Bay may be just what your looking for. Check out their pics on this web site. Lots of good feed back. Great spa. MIX lounge. Connected to Mandalay Bay for Casino action and an amazing pool. And this is not a smoke free property like Signature. Check out www.cheapovegas.com for a great review of their poker room.

We%26#39;ve seen all the Cirque shows and my hands down favorite is O. Hubby loves Mystere @ TI. Can%26#39;t go wrong with either.

    Have fun!!!

Thank you both for your responses, and thanks for the ';congrats'; on the MBA program... what a real grind :)

I%26#39;ll certainly look into THE HOTEL at Mandalay. Location is a big issue as I want to fit in as much as possible in 5 nights. I also want to be somewhere where I can literally walk in and out as many poker rooms as possible just to feed my ';poker chip collection.'; I am from the east coast, near the Borgata in Atlantic City, and seriously I have never seen a casino come close to that. So if anyone is familiar w/ the Borgata and how ';modern'; it is, you%26#39;ll have a great feel for what I would love in LV.

Also, seems like ';O'; is consistently one of the favorite shows... so I%26#39;ll probably go with that one.

Does anyone have thoughts on going from LV to the GC? I was considering just adding an additional night or two after LV but I%26#39;m a bit inexperienced in organizing trips like this ... is it feasible to lug everything from LV to the GCNP for a night or two? Or would it be easier to schedule something like this prior to LV?

IMHO Skip the Grand Canyon and go another time. You will want to stay in Vegas especially if it is your first time. Sound like you would like the Wynn. Poker room is supposedly really nice.

    Have Fun

Also most men prefer Mystere for a Cirque show.

What kind of Poker do you want to play, and who do you want to play against? Like hotels the poker rooms are different and attract different players.

For instance: I would automatically rule out Signature for myself, and I%26#39;ve never stayed there. Partly because the condo-type hotel is not the experiance I look for in LV. But also because the MGM poker room is not right for me. But maybe it%26#39;s exactly what you are looking for.

    Hi Mike,

If you know you will be playing a lot of cash poker--not tournaments--ask about the casino rate which might save you money. If you play enough you might even get comped 100%.

These are the 2 best websites for Vegas poker rooms:

    www.allvegaspoker.com

    www.vegasmadeeasy.com

Venetian is the top room in Vegas but if you like to play for very high stakes, Bellagio and Mirage might be better for you assuming you don%26#39;t mind possibly losing a ton of money.

As far as Cirque goes, either O or KA will be great shows. I think O might be better for you and your girlfriend. If you are want a concise overview of Vegas entertainment, try the vegasmadeeasy.com website.

    Have a great Vegas vacation!

As you say, Signature is non-smoking, so that%26#39;s not a great choice for your GF. And the decore in the Bellagio certainlly won%26#39;t feel ';modern'; if that%26#39;s important to you.

Be sure to spend time reading up on www.allvegaspoker.com to learn about the various poker rooms. Remember that you can play anywhere, not just where you are staying. Wynn and Bellagio have the biggest ';rep,'; but are generally not great for new-to-Vegas players.

The Venetian and Mirage would be my picks of your choices for you. Nice rooms, modern furniture and good access to a lot of excellent poker rooms. Mirage has ';Love'; on-site. Venetian has fairly easy access to Love. Both have good access to Mystere. O is a short cab ride away; Ka a slightly farther ride.

Between the two, the Venetian has a bigger, better room and good access to shopping/food. The Mirage has the better pool.

Also, let me suggest a hotel that%26#39;s not on your list: Planet Hollywood, due to your comment about ';modern'; style.

PH has arguably the most ';modern'; casino on the Strip, and the rooms follow that decor too, especially the Hollywood Hip and Resort Vista rooms. Also has a well-reviewed poker room, and the attached Miracle Mile Mall may be of interest to your and/or your g/f.

Location is pretty good, better located than Sig or MB, I think. Immediately next door to Paris, which connects to Bally%26#39;s. And directly across the street from Bellagio.

Hi, congrats on the MBA ! I just looked up the Borgota and by looking at the pics, I think Mirage, Wynn, TI,and Palazzo fit your bill. I think you should stay mid- strip. I think you%26#39;d be better off scheduling the GC for an overnite at the very least. It is quite amazing to see it at different times of the day. I remember how much fun it was in college to plan our vacations. Now, back to the books.

    Newest penny and nickel slots

I will be coming to Vegas in June and am wondering about new penny/nickel slots. I have read a lot about the Wizard of Oz machines . They look like they will be a lot of fun to play. Are there other newer ones that are fun to play that have good bonus rounds? Will be staying on the strip at Flamingo and will probably just plat at those casinos on the strip.

    Newest penny and nickel slots

Go onto youtbube and search Wizard of Oz slot machines. There are a couple of videos people have taken while playing. You will see just how much fun they are. Have a great trip and win, win, win.

    Newest penny and nickel slots

For some reason the WOZ slots weren%26#39;t fun for me at all. I never got any bonus of any kind - not one payout. I had much more fun playing Monopoly (the elevator one) and especially the Star Wars (not to be confused with Star Trek) slot, which I only saw at Casino Royale. I thought Goldfish was cute, but couldn%26#39;t trigger the bonus on that either. 50 Lions was pretty good to me, as well as Wolf something or other. Have fun!

My fav was the Munsters! (The video of Herman saying ';I don%26#39;t know what I%26#39;m doin%26#39;, but I%26#39;m sure having fun!'; is worth the trip alone!)

Then I found WoZ slots. ';Holy Smokes - Jesus Murphy - Sufferin%26#39; Succotash!'; - I played those slots all night.

(The Flamingo has four WoZ slots just adjacent to the north door.)

    The flying monkeys are fierce.

Where was the Munsters slot located. I used to love that show

I found Munsters slots at Monte Carlo last week (right hand side about 1/3 of the way back.) I%26#39;ve also played them at the Mirage and Mandalay Bay, but that was several months ago.

  • Need help deciding on Restaurants

My hushand and I are going to Vegas March 14-19. We have most of the trip planned, but we need a little help deciding where to eat before the shows. We are not picky eaters and would love any suggestions. Also is it better to make reservations before we leave? Thanks!

    Need help deciding on Restaurants

we need to know the price range before ++, and which shows if you want to dine convenient o those, also what type of food is preferred or to avoid. too many options for you to give us some guidelines. anything from Joel R to a $1 hot dog!!

yes, if the restaurant accepts reservations make them as soon as you decide.

    Need help deciding on Restaurants

How much do you want to spend?

Some restaurants can cost over $200 per person. Others are fairly inexpensive.

    Where are you staying?

Do you like Mexican food? Sushi? Steakhouses? Buffets?

Our price range would be $25-60 per person.

We are staying at the Wynn and we pretty much like everything, espcially sushi.

price range helps - what about the shows, we need those so we know the location - don%26#39;t want to siggest a place at MGM if you are staying at wynn and seeing Love!! or do you want to dine at Wynn before going to another property for the show?

You are going to have to plan ahead and work a little bit in order to eat at Wynn for less than $60 per person. You might also need to skip the fancy cocktails %26amp; dessert.

One easy suggestion is to eat at the Grand Lux. There are 2 of these close to Wynn. One is in Palazzo (right next door to Wynn) the other is in the Venetian. There is almost no difference between the two. The Grand Lux has a large selection of food options. The portions are huge and the food is really good. You can easily eat there for less than $60 per person.

Buffets are generally inexpensive. The Bellagio dinner buffet is $30 per person. I%26#39;m sure that Wynn%26#39;s can%26#39;t be much more than that.

Across the street at Treasure Island, there is sure to be some restaurants that are more affordable.

On your budget, you might consider having your ';big'; meal of the day be at lunchtime and eat a lighter, less expensive dinner instead. Lunch is generally less expensive than dinner.

    Have fun!

    Fontainebleau?

Saw this on vegastodayandtomorrow.com and was wondering if anyone knows what the status of this project is?

    Fontainebleau?

do you doubt the info on vegastodayandtomorrow? they usually have good info and pictures. did you check the fountainbleau website or do an internet search?

    Fontainebleau?

If I could find the info on that site I wouldn%26#39;t be asking. I didn%26#39;t see any dates etc. Anyone have a useful reply? I%26#39;m the first to admit I%26#39;m not the best when it comes to searching for this info which is another reason I asked about it.

    ';...I didn%26#39;t see any dates etc...';

from the website you referenced ';...with a planned opening in fall of 2009...';. I doubt anyone here has any more useful info than the excellent website you origianlly found this on - go back and read it again if needed, it is quite good, and a website many here would tell you to go to for this type of info if you didn%26#39;t already know about it.

it%26#39;s easy to do an inter net search, many aren%26#39;t great at it I know, sometimes it can be confusing. try ';fountainbleau las vegas'; and you will get the official website. pretty useful tool.

I%26#39;ve looked at this site a few times and after following your advice looked again to see the fall 2009 opening. Too funny, besides being a lousy searcher I%26#39;m also a skimmer don%26#39;t know how I kept missing it :)

    Mirage hotel - toiletries provided?

Please can anyone tell me what toiletries are provided in the bathrooms at the Mirage? I%26#39;m trying to travel light so don%26#39;t want to take anything with me that I won%26#39;t need.

Only two weeks to go to our first trip and we%26#39;re so excited!

    Thanks for your help.

    Mirage hotel - toiletries provided?

I can%26#39;t remember the brand, but I did like the products. They supply shampoo, conditioner, shower cap (I think) and body lotion.

    Mirage hotel - toiletries provided?

Hi the toiletries are AquaLime, they are generous sizes so no need to bring your own. Have a good time, Mirage is my favourite!

A little note for housekeeping left with your tip should ensure that your toiletries supplies will be more than adequate.

You%26#39;re going to love this hotel! Stayed there a month ago for the first time and we were very happy with everything. The toiletries are no problem; everything you need. And a super casino. Enjoy!

Thank you all so much for your help and good wishes.

  • Laughlin - have Vegas-type caberet/showgirl shows?

Leaving next week for Laughlin. Staying at Tropicana. Is there a casino that offers Vegas-type shows anymore?

    Laughlin - have Vegas-type caberet/showgirl shows?

There aren%26#39;t any showgirl type shows in Laughlin on a regular basis. Occasionally a traveling show will be in Laughlin for a couple of days, but nothing of that type is scheduled for the near future.

    Laughlin - have Vegas-type caberet/showgirl shows?

Vegas-type shows can mean a number of things. No big glitz dance shows if that is what you are referring to. The only thing that would be an ';off Strip'; type show next week would be the salute to Sinatra, Davis and Martin at Harrah%26#39;s. I guess it is worth it. Tickets are between 16 and 26 bucks.

The Smothers Brothers will also be here all of next week at the Riverside. They still put on a good show.

    Mandalay Bay versus Mirage

I am coming to Vegas in Sept with my husband at the start and end of a NV, AZ, CA flydrive. I have found good deals at similar prices for MB and Mirage for our first stay but can%26#39;t decide which one to choose (reviews on here suggest Mirage is better but we like MB casino and I%26#39;ve always had the impression that this was a nicer hotel). We are not pool people so this is not an issue, neither is the fact that MB is right up the south end of the strip. This is our 3rd visit and we have stayed in Luxor (nice enough but nothing special) and PH (fantstic room and bathroom bigger than my living room!). Which room would be a better choice, a Deluxe in the Mirage or a 550DR in MB given that my main priorities are comfy bed and nice bathroom, preferably with separate shower. My husband doesn%26#39;t really care what the room is like as long as the price is right!

    Thanks.

    Mandalay Bay versus Mirage

It sounds like MB is the clear choice for you guys. The rooms - especially the bathrooms - are bigger and nicer.

    Mandalay Bay versus Mirage

Even though Mirage is centrally located on the Strip i would go with Mandalay Bay just a much better property and huge rooms i loved it.

Just stayed at MB and the bathrooms are very nice: separate shower, soaking tub, double sinks and private toilet. Good sized room even with 2 beds! The bed is more than comfy!

Be aware that the airport is noisy though! (take a sleep machine if you want to cover the noise...it worked for me!)

MB is a nicer property. If the review on TA suggest otherwise (they do?) that is reason enough to discount those reviews.

reviews on TA are NOT objective - purely subjective - so no standards, you, the reader, have no idea what standards a reviewer uses. heck, someone here rates Mirage as four star plus - to them, no known and respected rating system rates it higher than 3 stars - so take any review here with a grain of salt.

    Mirage is fine, MB better.

Thank you all for your quick replies. I realise the reviews on here on not necessarily a true representation of the hotels, for example, however nice it may be, I%26#39;m sure that Bills isn%26#39;t better than the Wynn, just that people expect less from it and are more impressed when its nice/not as bad as they thought. I think we%26#39;ll go for MB, now just have to decide where to stay at the end of the trip :)

Stayed in MB honeymoon suite 3 years ago for our 20th anniversary. We loved the casino as well, as we did not think it was nearly as smoke filled as others. Mirage is getting old, and MB just makes you feel more luxurious.....

    Free Parking?

Do any of the hotels on the strip charge for self parking? Do all of the same hotels have valet ?

    Free Parking?

On the strip, self park and valet (please tip!) are free. Downtown, valet is free but they charge for self park. Some hotels do validate.

    Free Parking?

None of the strip hotels charge for self parking. And with the exception of Four Seasons, none charge for valet parking either.

Self Parking is free at all hotels. Virtually all hotels have both free valet (for the cost of the tip) and self-parking. The only exceptions are a couple of upscale non-casino properties (Four Seasons, Trump and possibly another) which have a charge for parking.

Both valet and self parking are free on the strip. Just tip when you get your car back.

Thanks for the quick responses. Now I%26#39;m hunting around for the best deals on a car rental.Any ideas?I checked Delta.com from another suggestion and I%26#39;m a little leary about renting from Avis through their site when I%26#39;m not a passenger on their flight.Alamo??

Check out renting through your hotel especially if you don%26#39;t need a car every day. You save the airport fees and may come out ahead

I just booked w/ Alamo online the other day for next weekend and got a bgreat rate (for Fri-Mon, paying $64 for a midsize, all taxes included). I went to the website and clicked on special weekend rates that flashed on.

Jersey - if you get the best price on Delta.com for your rental, book it without worry. I%26#39;ve got 3 different 1 week reservations for Las Vegas booked through Delta for this year, even though I%26#39;m not flying them at all. Once you book the car you can go to the Avis sight and you%26#39;ll see that you%26#39;ve got a valid reservation.

Try to avoid driving on the strip. You can usually use the side and back roads to get where you are going-including valet parking and garages. This site will help you access some of the garages:

  • Official ESTA website..?

hi, ive been gooogleing ';ESTA';, its been coming up with a few esta sites.

some sites are charging a fee to complete the form, am i right to assume that the ESTA form application is free?

    Is this the official site?

    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html…

if not, does anyone have the link to the correct site/

    regards mark

    Official ESTA website..?

Yes that is the link to the ';official'; Department of Honeland Security site where you would apply for an ESTA.

An ESTA is free. Avoid any site or other third party who tells you otherwise. They are attempting to get you to pay them for something that costs you nothing.

    Official ESTA website..?

    ';Department of Honeland Security';

    Make that ';Homeland';....... :-)

The ESTA form is really simple to complete. You need to have your passport with you when you fill it in, but it%26#39;s very straightforward.

    Hi

Did ours via a link on BA website, I%26#39;m sure all major airlines will have direct links.

    Clive

    cheers for that..

Why are October 2009 hotel rates so expensive?

I ahve a trip booked to visit Las Vegas in the first week of October 2009 and notice that discounted hotel rates seem to be around 3-4 times more expensive than most other dates. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is so and if they will decrease as it get closer to the date? Thanks

Why are October 2009 hotel rates so expensive?

It%26#39;s too early for the discounts for next fall. They probably won%26#39;t be out until June.

If you booked directly with the hotel you can cancel and rebook or just ask them to adjust the rate.

If you booked with a TA or third party you are probably out of luck.

Why are October 2009 hotel rates so expensive?

Lots of conventions in October. I can%26#39;t remember the web addy but all the conventions were posted on it. Maybe someone else has it.

This link displays Jan09-thru Dec 09...click on the month you%26#39;re going in....

    www.lasvegastourism.com/conventions_oct.htm

October is a popular month in Vegas because the weather is perfect. The hot summer months are over and it is in the 70%26#39;s in Vegas.

I%26#39;ve just checked our month to see what conventions are on and see that there is one with 64,000 attendees! Maybe this is not an unusually high amount of people but it sure does sound like a lot to me!! It is being held in the Las Vegas Convention Centre. Does the this venue have it%26#39;s own rooms or will all those people be booking rooms elsewhere?

holidaynut - The LVCC is adjacent to the Hilton, but that doesn%26#39;t mean the conventioners will be staying there. Most conventions make arrangements to book their rooms at group rates at one or more hotels on the Strip. If you really want to know which ones, go to the convention%26#39;s website. However, it is generally the case that rates will be higher overall when a large convention is in town (supply and demand.)

    Thanks Stratton,

I%26#39;ve just checked the conventions website again and luckily that large one ends 2 days before we get there, so hopefully we%26#39;ll still be able to pick up a bargain!

I didnt think they were expensive, I%26#39;ve just booked for me and a friend to go to Vegas, 10th Oct 2009 for 9 nights and it works out just over £500 each for flights and hotels so i thought it was a bargain....maybe i%26#39;m wrong :S

Which rooms at Harrahs would you recommend?

We are thinking of staying a couple days at Harrahs, come October--we have never stayed here, but love playing the slots there, so thought we%26#39;d give it a try, but don%26#39;t know which rooms to ask for, we are diamond card holders, so guess we could ask our host, but needed someone on here to give us their opinion, the last 3 days will be at paris, we love it there...Thanks

Which rooms at Harrahs would you recommend?

We, too, are Diamonds, but we don%26#39;t have a host; we just sign up over the internet. We had several kinds of rooms at Harrah%26#39;s. I think the ones I like best are the newly remodeled Mardi Gras tower rooms. I like to stay down by the swimming pool. Not a great view, but it%26#39;s nice and quiet. Ask for a door without a connecting door to the room next door and your room will be quieter. The rooms at Harrah%26#39;s are mostly smallish but nice. We had a Jr. Suite once, and it was bigger, but I didn%26#39;t like it any better than the plain ole room. Harrah%26#39;s is fun. Enjoy!

Which rooms at Harrahs would you recommend?

I always ask for a room in the Carnival Tower, high floor.

We stayed at Harrahs last year above the ';carnival court'; were asked at check in if we would mind a ';little noise till around 1 am';. Well, room was fine but blaring noise kept us awake till 3 a.m. Sounded like there was a speaker right in our room!!!!! We asked to be moved the next day. So I would say top priority at Harrah%26#39;s is ask for a quiet room away from Carnival Court.

Mardi Gras Tower overlooks Carnaval Court. Despite its name, Carnaval Tower is where you want to be if you want to avoid possible late night noise drifting up from Carnaval Court.

I reserved a premium room. Does anyone know which tower these rooms are located?

    Thanks.

Not all rooms in Mardi gras tower over look Carvnaval Court, Some face north, some over the pool just ask for a high floor in Carnaval Tower as JT said, or if it is Mardi Gras Tower ask to be on the opposite side of Carnaval Court. I stayed in a premium room in the Mardi Gras Tower in Dec, it had a small balcony, new furnishings, was over the AC vents, facing north with a slight view of the Venetian and TI. These rooms are quite small so be aware fo that.

thanks for the info, teachrsue. We also have booked a premium room, and the view is more important to us than size of room or balcony. Which tower and rooms would have the best view southwest? We take a sound machine so the noise doesn%26#39;t bother so much.

    Wynn promo code question

    Hello!

My Mum just received a promotion from Wynn for the $109 a night to stay there throughout April and May. Some of you might remember me as the girl with the tshirt slogans! My Mum has already booked with Wynn so cannot use the offer as she cant cancel the booking with our travel agent, she emailed it to my Auntie though and the offer increased to $129 a night.

What I am wondering is, if my Mum books the room for $109 a night does that mean my Auntie could still stay in it? Or is this against the rules?

    Thanks!

    xx

    Wynn promo code question

If your mother books the room using a special in her name, your mother has to check in. She can list your Aunt on the room and give her the keys.

    Wynn promo code question

Thats brilliant, thank you! We are staying there and we check in on the Sunday and she arrives Tuesday so she will easily be able to go and check in for her.

Thanks for your help, I will book it now! I love calling Wynn and being placed on hold so you can hear Steve Wynn chatting about all the restaurants!! xxx

  • Flamingo rooms with view

Staying at Flamingo in July. Room is a deluxe (ie, standard). Do any of these rooms have a nice strip view or do only the Go rooms and suites have the view? Can anyone recommend what floor or area to ask for when checking in? Thanks.

    Flamingo rooms with view

Last time I stayed at the Flamingo I asked for a room on a high floor with a view of the Bellagio fountains. I sipped her a $20 and she said ';no problem'; Our view was fantastic!

We used the Flamingo%26#39;s airport check in and it was fast and smooth.

    Mars

    Flamingo rooms with view

    ';We used the Flamingo%26#39;s airport check in and it was fast and smooth.';

Flamingo no longer has airport check-in.

The rooms on the top two floors are ';executive'; rooms. They are a little bigger than regular rooms. If it%26#39;s not too full, they might give you one of them if you ask. We had one once. It was old and worn, but the view was splendid! One thing to remember is that at certain times, the night club across the street is loud. If this will bother you, you might take it in to consideration.

  • What order to see the Cirque shows in?

On our last trip we went to Mystere as most people suggested this is the best show to see first but what order would you put the rest of the shows in? We are hoping to manage two but may only go to see one. Maybe O or Love but all suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance

What order to see the Cirque shows in?

I have the same question. Thanks for asking Mrs K 06 !

What order to see the Cirque shows in?

We saw %26#39;Love%26#39; first, and %26#39;O%26#39; second (during the same trip). We thought they were both great. We intend to see %26#39;Mystere%26#39; next week.

For me that choice would be easy. You definitely want to see Love. It is truly fantastic in every way-music, sets, choreography- everything! You don%26#39;t even have to be a Beatles fan to enjoy it. I then would see O- although I didn%26#39;t think it was nearly a great as Mystere and Love. Fianlly, I would choose Ka. I didn%26#39;t like it at all-the stage was great but that was about it. I never saw Zumanity and I never want to see Believe.

The only one I have see was Mystere as well. This was years ago and I am goin back to vegas in a weeek. I decided to book LOVE because I have not heard of one person that did not think it was fantastic (I also LOVE the beatles haha). Also, while they may be very different, from what I hear O is similar to the same ';type'; of show as Mystere while LOVE is a one of a kind show.

I guess it depends what you liked best about Mystere.

I liked Mystere because of the acrobatics. When I think Cirque that is what I expect and want to see. Others prefer the acrobatics portion the least, saying they can see that stuff in a circus and much prefer the dance/music and the overall artistry.

I would say O next just because it is unique with the pool and it contains some pretty cool acrobatics and diving.

If you like the Beatles and don%26#39;t expect a show like Mystere, in terms of acrobatics, than that may be for you. The focus in this one is around the music.

KA - very little acrobatics. The stage is cool but I found it boring next to Mystere

Zumanity - haven%26#39;t seen it but is suppose to be more adult themed.

There are a number of %26#39;Cirque du Soleil%26#39; video clips on youtube that you can watch in order to decide which show is more to YOUR taste. All of us are going to give differing opinions as to our personal favorite.

My favroite CDS show is Love. Great visual experience, great music, fun atmosphere. I%26#39;ve seen it twice. O was amazing for the technical feats of water plus stage. I certainly recommend seeing it, although the ';dark or dreamlike'; theme of it doesn%26#39;t appeal to some. Mystere was my least favorite. Felt like a ';Junior Varsity Cirque'; to me. I don%26#39;t plan to see Zumaity (too many mixed reviews) or Believe (despise Criss Angel) so I guess that only leaves Ka for us. from what I%26#39;ve read here Love and O are both better reiceved to Ka.

I saw Ka and O last week and was blown away by both - I%26#39;m not often speechless but they were truly brilliant! I can%26#39;t wait to see the other Cirque shows butwill have to try and win some more money for the tickets!

I%26#39;ve seen Zumanity and KA...loved both...Zumanity is the sensual erotic sexual burlesque one at NYNY...KA has something of a plot and the technical aspects are amazing....Seriously one of the best shows I%26#39;ve ever seen...

I%26#39;ve heard LOVE is great...Why not go to half price ticket place and just get the best deal you can get for that night%26#39;s show and go at it that way...?

Also consider Le Reve at the Wynn although it is not an official Cirque show.

    Terry Fator Show

My wife and I saw Terry%26#39;s show on February 26th.It was a very funny show and the whole crowd laughed there butts off.If any one saw this show let me know how you thought of it.Plus if anyone is seeing it soon you will like it.

The whole show was good. The Michael Jackson thing was funny, and the Sunny and Cher skit made you laugh. If anyone doesn%26#39;t know what show to see, this is a good show.

    Terry Fator Show

I saw the show on the 25th and totally agree with you. Terry is fabulous!

    Terry Fator Show

Everyone I know who has seen it says the same thing. They all seemed to really enjoy it. I am looking forward to seeing it myself.

We saw it on February 25 and loved it! It is a very funny show and his impersonations are impressive. I would see it again.

Has anyone seen tickets for the Fator show at TIX 4 TONITE? I loved Terry on Talent. Hope you all had a great trip.

thanks to all the feedback so far.

I have tickets for next Saturday night. It%26#39;s so nice to hear all the good reviews. Can%26#39;t wait.

    Mirage Spa or Qua??

I have been thinking of booking a treatment at the Qua Spa as it looks amazing.

The Mirage spa is offering discounts on some treatments, which makes it much better value for money. So now wondering whether to go there instead.

However this may be my only chance to go to the Qua spa. Is it worth the extra $$$ ??

Grateful for your thoughts on this one.

    Mirage Spa or Qua??

Both would give you good treatments. Many say that Qua is the best in Vegas. If it fits into your budget to go there, then do so. If it%26#39;d stretch the budget, then maybe the Mirage one would be better for you to use.

    Mirage Spa or Qua??

I%26#39;m a value kind of girl - if you think Mirage is a better value that;s it for you.

For me Qua is a better value.

Qua is great spa.Good service and atmosphere.I recently spent a few hours there.Would highly recommend it.

    Most ambient bar?

I recently posted %26#39;most ambient restaurant?%26#39; and have had some wonderful suggestions that will really make a difference to our trip so I thought I would ask a similar question about bars. We are looking for Wow places to have a drink and if they do light snacks etc I would be very interested to hear about that too. I don%26#39;t completely understand the cover charge system - if you are staying in the hotel where the bar is located would you still get charged?

Are tables only for bottle service? We are a couple and not big drinkers - we like trying different cocktails and my husband might have a few beers or a gin and tonic but we wouldn%26#39;t be able to drink a whole bottle of vodka for instance so I don%26#39;t think it would be worthwhile for us but sadly does this mean we won%26#39;t be able to sit at a table after say 9pm? When there is a cover charge - is it per person or per couple?

All suggestions for interesting places to have a drink will be very welcome and also could you say why you liked them so much.

    Most ambient bar?

I%26#39;ve drunk at dozens of bars in Veags and never heard of any issues like you suggest, you can sit and drink what you want at your own leisure.

Most of the big casinos have bars that are in the ambient style, good ones we found imparticular were at the monte carlo and the west wing at MGM,the one up on the mezzanine level at planet hollywood was by far the best though but I can%26#39;t remember the name of it I%26#39;m afraid, their cocktails were great and different too,I had a Lychhee cosmo!

If you like to people watch you have to go to trader Vics at the miracle mile (ph), the outdoor seating area is great, you can watch the bellagio fountains, see the sea of people constantly coast by and they do great mojitoes!!

    Most ambient bar?

I would say a couple of ';WOW'; places to have a drink would be:

Mix Lounge/Bar - top the THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay

Great views from the South end of the Strip. It is near the top of Mandalay with a view looking up the Strip. Go there before, I believe 9pm, and there is no cover charge. Great to have a couple cocktails and check out the view.

Other options, however, you will have to pay a cover charge is Voodoo Lounge at the Rio and the Ghost Bar at the Palms. However, the cover can be expensive if you only plan on going for a couple of drinks, especially if you go on a weekend.

Out of the 3 bars above, the view from the Ghost Bar is the best (IMHO)

Bottle Service is mostly in the clubs, although they do provide it at Voodoo and Ghost Bar. They have some seats that are not reserved for bottle service. Clubs may be a different story.

Old stand by...Margaritaville. 3rd floor deck or main level bar. Right on the Strip, great for people watching with a great vibe. Since it is basically a restaurant no cover there.

My favorite three hotel bar/Lounges are:

Down Parasol at the Wynn they have an indoor and outdoor seating areas, on the out door patio at night they have this amazing light show on the water that changes all the time. They have really good signature cocktails that they change by season, you can also order a bottle of wine or Champagne for the table and the prices for bottles if you want them are very reasonable. We stop here everytime we go to Vegas since it opened...we were there 4 times last year alone. There is also an Up Parasol as well that is more on the interior of the hotel you cant view the light show from there though.

Blush also at the Wynn love this place the bartendars the drinks also signature cocktails that change per season, It has a class about it but not stuffy or snobby and the couches are so comfy.

Mixx Lounge at Mandalay Bay love this place as well we always have to go here once as well. This is truly the best place to view the sunset on the strip and watch the all the lights come on.The cocktails here are so good as well and they have snacks.

    Cheers,

    Magic97

Some of the other suggestions are wonderful - here is my list

    - Fontana at Bellagio (outdoor patio, view of fountains that really can%26#39;t be beat, and just beautiful)

    - Mix at Mandalay Bay (go up before unset, usually 6-6:30ish, there is no cover and you can watch the sunset and the lights turn on over the strip)

    - Red Square at Mandalay Bay (Russian themed vodka bar, really seductive interior complete with chandeliers that look like St Basil%26#39;s Cathedral, great martinis, bar made of ice - downfall is that it can get busy, best to go when it opens or near after that time, 4pm-6pm is a good time usually)

-West Wing Bar at MGM West Wing (just discovered this place out last trip, great comfortable sofas and sleek/sexy decor, and they have a happy hour from 5pm-7pm)

-Eastside Bar at Encore (beautiful view of the Encore pool, very colorful and interesting decor, they have great infused liquor drinks which they sell by various size carafes)

-Parasol Down at Wynn (Lake of Dreams view, as the other poster mentioned, great drinks and reasonable bottle prices for wines and champagne)

-Japonais Lounge at Mirage (they have a really interesting drink menu and light appetizers, tropical and pretty)

    - Patio at Morel%26#39;s at Palazzo (view of the strip from lovely patio, you can see the Siren%26#39;s of TI show from there if you are interested, plus they have FANTASTIC food)

-Blush at Wynn (colorful lanterns in the ceiling, sofas and seating areas - just don%26#39;t go here after 12am, especially on weekends unless you want more of a club vibe)

-Caramel at Bellagio (dark and sexy spot for a drink, especially before dinner)

-Tao Lounge (not the club - this part opens at 5pm and you can go in just for drinks and check out the incredible decor, and leave before it turns into the most popular and busiest nightclubs in Vegas!)

Most places categorized as bars/lounges do not have cover charges (Blush does, but women usually get in free and often get free drinks during certain hours). Bottle service is more fitting for clubs (usually if you are in a group that wants to get into XS, Tryst, etc and you need to bypass the line - ie, you are guys). Most clubs have no tables other than bottle service, whereas bars and lounges do usually offer table seating if you are ordering cocktails/beers/wine etc.

Definitely the Fireside Lounge at the Peppermill. They do serve bar food. It is a great/funky/retro bar that is unique in Vegas. The drinks are great and so the whole atmosphere. There is also a rather nice restaurant attached but the Fireside Lounge is what makes the Peppermill so special.

    www.usmenuguide.com/peppermillfireside.html

Chi-tourist - I forgot to ask, you mentioned the patio at Morels - is that full restaurant service or could you just order something light?

It is a full restaurant - and we really enjoyed it (we had one of the seafood towers, a few meats and cheeses, and soups which was more than enough food and delicious). You can check out all the info from the Palazzo website - its also great for lunch!

    Which is your favorite?

Where do you stay when you go to Las Vegas?

    Which is your favorite?

I usually stay at the MGM

    Which is your favorite?

    Stayed at Rio-Mirage-Bellagio %26amp; NYNY

    Mirage was great! Awesome location

Bellagio well we had an amazing suite, perfect!

NYNY so much going on in this hotel! Never had to leave.

    Staying at Paris in April!

    1.) Mirage

    2.) Mandalay Bay

MB is a better property...Mirage is just ';cool'; because of the heritage and location.

3.) Paris: I hate the parent company because of how they treat table players, but they are generous with ';free'; rooms. The gaming and pool is below average, but I love the food choices and location.

4.) Plaza or The Fitz downtown when I feel like low-rolling and ';getting my drink on'; with the boyz.

    Number one favorite is Wynn

But I also like MGM, Mirage, Paris %26amp; Venetian.

    South Point off strip.

Have stayed at Bellagio, Ceasars, Mandalay Bay, MGM 3X,Mirage 3X TI 2X,Planet Hollywood 2X,Desert Rose %26amp; Flamingo. Bellagio lakeview room was really nice but my favorite is Mirage, have stayed there 3 times, least favorite was Flamingo.

I stay wherever I get the best comps. We go 2 - 3 times per year, and have not paid for a room in 12 years.

The best place we have stayed is Paris. The worst Fitzgeralds.

The best rooms have been Gold Coast. (was comped a king suite) Golden Nugget, and Flamingo (go room)

I stay at the IP, best location, cheap, clean rooms and usually comped!

    Thanks everybody for your help.

What is the differents in Signature at Mgm Grand and the MGM grand hotel and Casino?

Sorry about the questions I have never been here before and if want to stay some place really nice.

MGM sig is a very nice set of 1/2/3 bedroom condos that empty into the Studio Walk of the MGM.

Seperate, a block from the strip, with their own pools, and kitchens.

MGM pool is available to use for the Sig as well.

MGM empties you right into the casino floor, and can have good strip views.

Favorite is Palazzo . We usually split a stay with Paris and another hotel. Hopefully this year it will be Palazzo and Paris again.

  • 2 for 1 shows, cheapy shows

Just wondering of those who have been out in recent weeks and such what ads/coupons they saw for 2 for 1 shows? We will be out March 24-29 and due to a layoff will have to watch the budget, but still want to check out some shows. Also wondered what shows were showing up at the discount ticket locations. Would like to see Love, but not sure if they are running any discounts or showing up at discount tix places.

2 for 1 shows, cheapy shows

    http://shows.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-shows/

';Barbara and Frank, Concert that never was'; is at 2 for 1 but it%26#39;s at the Riviera.

2 for 1 shows, cheapy shows

    Also check www.smartervegas.com

2 For 1 and free show with drink purchase coupons are available on the Strip (look for the people passing out coupons, esp near Harrah%26#39;s--NOT the porn slappers).

I%26#39;ve gotten coupons for Mac King and Vinnie Favorito that way, both great shows.

check out kshp.com they have good prices on some of the lower priced shows on the strip

    have a great trip

We saw ';Love'; in January. Just went to the box office the day of the show and got tickets for half price. Great show

    Always try these sites:

    www.smartervegas.com

    www.travelzoo.com

    www.goldstar.com

    www.broadwaybox.com

If you want to see a really nice afternoon show (for free)- see Big Elvis at Bill%26#39;s. He does put on a great show and you can get margaritas for 99 cents.

    http://www.bigelvis.biz/

If you do get tickets for Love- you don%26#39;t have to sit in the expensive seats. The balcony seats will do just fine. I sat in the very last row and I was happy- I could see everything. The theater is small and in the round.

I have seen BE already but plan on another visit this trip. As for the cheap love tickets, did you just ask for the cheapest seats?

We asked for the cheapest seats on got them. I believe it was half price for all levels. It was around $60.00 each with all taxes and fees. Right at the back but could see everything. Lots going on.

    Best Bar and Lounge??

We are not very big club people but we like to go to cool bars. What are some of the best ones?

Also what are some of the more laid back ones with great drinks?

    Best Bar and Lounge??

I posted this on another thread - but it is a list of my favorite lounges that are good for a drink or two in a beautiful environment!

ome of the other suggestions are wonderful - here is my list

    - Fontana at Bellagio (outdoor patio, view of fountains that really can%26#39;t be beat, and just beautiful)

    Best Bar and Lounge??

I also love Trader Vic%26#39;s in PH for a mai tai on the patio...you are sitting right under the Paris Eiffel Tower and are across the street from the Bellagio, so you can see the fountains...drinks are wonderful (the original mai tai was invented at Trader Vic%26#39;s - although my favorite is the vodka mai tai!)

    My favourites are:

Parasol down bar lounge at Wynn[great drinks and atmosphere]

    Tao lounge at Venetian
