Anyone ever purchase AIrline Failure Insurance?

Dh caught the last bit on TV about airline failure insurance. It seems to be seperate from travel insurance and I did manage to find a site that offers it to passengers (not just tour operators) it%26#39;s only around £5 each and even though we are flying with a major airline (Virgin) it seems like it%26#39;s worth doing. Don%26#39;t know if I%26#39;m supposed to post it but here%26#39;s the link:

http://www.ipplondon.co.uk/

Ayyone have any other suggestions as this is the only one I can find.

Anyone ever purchase AIrline Failure Insurance?

I%26#39;m not sure if the credit cards laws are different in the UK, here in the states, if an airline goes bankrupt and you charged it to your credit card you will get a refund since the service was never provided to you.

If you paid with cash you are out of luck, so this insurance would be needed.

Anyone ever purchase AIrline Failure Insurance?

Thanks I completely forgot about that!

Hi

When we bought our yearly travel insurance last time it was offered as an extra for about £5, which we took. This then covered us for all our other flights eg Ryanair etc. Your cc will only cover purchases over £100.

walmart

can you get a bus from the strip in vegas to walmart at west charleston boulavard vegas thanks

walmart

use the route planner on the website - it%26#39;s easy to use, will give you routing options.

walmart

You have to transfer - take the Deuce to Charleston, then get on the 206. Probable easier, however, to take a cross-town bus first (201, 202 etc. depending upon what cross street you are at) then take the 103 up Decatur.

We normally get the Deauce to Charleston and then get the 206 to Walmart.

There is also a Walmart on Spring Mountain Road and you catch the bus, a 203 I think, at the stop at the side of Fashion Show Mall.

Just ask the drivers to make sure you are on the right bus.

isnt there also a walmart on east tropicana...looks like its not far from the gunstore??

Previously we have taken a taxi to the Walmart on Eastern and it cost $20 each way with tip.

Which is the nearest Walmart to the centre of the strip?

There is a Walmart very near Sam%26#39;s Town. Last time we were in Vegas, we caught the free shuttle from Bill%26#39;s to Sam%26#39;s Town and just walked to Walmart (under 10 mins)We then got the free shuttle back to Bill%26#39;s.Hope this helps.

Why? Aren%26#39;t there better places to shop ?

The Walmart of E. Trop -- just a couple of blocks past the Gun Store -- is an easy bus ride from the South Strip -- MGM, Tropicana, NYNY, Excal. You can catch the bus right in front of the Tropicana -- not on the Strip, but around the corner on Trop.

If you head out to the WalMart on E Trop, be sure to stop in the Pinball HOF, which is about half a block farther down Trop. One of the coolest places in all Vegas.

slot hosts

We started coming to LV about 10 years ago. We were both working, the kids graduated, left the nest and OMG we actually had some $$!! We play slots and were advised to get a host... got nice comps, line passes and etc. Now with the computerized Total Rewards card we hardly use a host. Am I missing something? Should I still plan my trips through her? We are staying at Paris this week. Can%26#39;t wait. For all you prolific writers I LOVE your trip reports. Read a southern lady one today... tooo funny.

LOL to all!!!

Use the host if you can. He/She will have perks not available on-line such as the line passes. Have a great time!

Cirque de soliel shows?

If you only ever get to see one CDS show which should it be?

And what is the best way to book tickets for one?

Many thanks!

Cirque de soliel shows?

Mystere is the best cirque show I%26#39;ve ever seen.

Actually the best show I%26#39;ve ever seen period.

I%26#39;ve also seen O, Zumanity and Le Reve (which isn%26#39;t technically a cirque show.)

Best to book online on the CDS website, IMO.

Cirque de soliel shows?

One more vote for Mystere

Other than Zumanity, which seems to be almost universally panned, the CdS shows seem to impress different people in diferent ways. You will see people saying that KA is their favorite, while others would not see it again, even if paid. Same goes for the others. My suggestion is to read the reviews and the show summaries and pick the one that seems best to your tastes. I guess what I am trying to say is that just because some else says a certain show is fantastic, does not mean that other person will enjoy it equally.

I have seen Mystere (twice), Love, O, and Ka. Mystere has a special place in my heart because I think it has the most WOW moments of them all. Love is fantastic in every way- music, choreography, sets, everything. It isn%26#39;t a typical CDS show because the emphasis is on the music rather than the acrobatic feats (although they are in the show). O was good but not as good as Love or Mystere IMHO. The stage in Ka was good but that was it. I didn%26#39;t enjoy it at all. I never saw Zumanity and Believe has gotten the worst reviews I have ever seen for almost any show in Vegas.

My vote: Mystere or Love, for sure.

If I could only see one it would be Love. Love is my favorite by far. I also really like O and Ka, thought Mystere was just okay and didn%26#39;t really like Zumanity.

i agree that mystere was fabulous. i actually liked the traveling shows i saw better, though... ';drallion'; i think.

we booked LOVE this time as part of the free ticket promo that orbitz had in feb. would have booked O if they weren%26#39;t sold out for our dates.

HTH!

Mystere or LOVE.......check the travelzoo site for discounts.....I%26#39;m not sure when you are going but check this site a few times a week for specials that pop up.....

Have fun:)

Check these websites for tickets :

www.smartervegas.com

www.travelzoo.com

www.goldstar.com

www.broadwaybox.com

Sometimes the hotel%26#39;s show website has sales so be sure to check.

People have been reporting that they have been able to get tickets for some CDS show at the last minute using the tix4tonight kiosks. The problem is that the show you want to see may not be available when you are there. It runs like the one in Leicester Square-tickets for that night only and the shows may vary.

Just saw O las Sundy. I was blown away. Simply amazing. I also saw Mystere and it was great, but I was simply blown away by O.

Vegas on a Budget? Beyond the strip?

Hi, there!

I%26#39;ve been to Vegas twice now and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it...

Well, we booked a trip for April and now we%26#39;re concerned about the budget while we%26#39;re there (actual trip is paid for, yahoo!)... So no 5 star restaurants for us! We like to gamble (VERY low rollers) and drink and definitely hang out by the pool (staying at MGM).

Anyway, I%26#39;m looking for suggestions in a few different categories.

(1) What are some ways to enjoy vegas on a budget? I know that there is a lot to see in the hotels, but we%26#39;ve seen a LOT of that already... we%26#39;d like to see what else is out there, too! Is there a website/list on this very topic?

(2) What are some ';different'; things to do? I%26#39;d like to do more than just gamble... What are some funky suggestions you have? For example, last time we got free passes (I don%26#39;t remember how!) to go to that old car showroom at Imperial Palace and we actually thought it was cool! It was something ';different'; from the casinos! :)

(3) What are some suggestions for cheap eats? I don%26#39;t mind using coupons if you tell me where to get them! Last year I was able to order some free vegas guides online? I forget where I ordered them from, though!

Thanks for listening this far! I appreciate the help. VEGAS BABY!

Vegas on a Budget? Beyond the strip?

How Long You Visiting?

This info will help :)

Vegas on a Budget? Beyond the strip?

Hi, don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve been ';Downtown'; yet at the ';Fremont Experience';. They%26#39;ve blocked off several streets under a huge canopy so it%26#39;s a walking mall with lots of vendors selling neat stuff right outside the casinos.

The casinos are smaller there so not so much ';trudging'; from one to the other. We stay down there at Fitzgeralds and have a ball. We find that the slots are looser, the drinks better and the people friendlier.

At night they have the light show (on the canopy overhead itself) with a killer sound system and there%26#39;s always bands on stage for your entertainment.

Try it, I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a good time.

Happy Travels!

Definitely see Big Elvis at Bill%26#39;s in the afternoon during the week. He puts on a fun show and it is free. It is a very popular ';attractions.'; Don%26#39;t be put off with his looks- he really is great.

http://www.bigelvis.biz/

Here is a list of attractions- some free/some cheap/some expensive:

http://www.vegas.com/attractions

Have a meal at Ellis Island (behind Bally%26#39;s). They have an off menu steak dinner for $6.95 (beer or root beer included). Their other meals are also great from what others have said- and huge! I have only had the steak and it is a good value.

You can get 99cent maragirtas and cheap beer at Bill%26#39;s, Casino Royale and O%26#39;Sheas.

If you have never been off strip you can take the shuttle from Bill%26#39;s to the Gold Coast and visit the Palms and the Rio- they are both across the street- although different streets). Sam%26#39;s Town also has a shuttle.

I agree with the previous poster, a trip to Ellis Island is a must, you can take the monorail to Bally%26#39;s, make a right out the back exit and its a short walk. Cheap food, gamblign and Karaoke!

Also in the same area, behind the Flamingo is Battista%26#39;s Hole in the Wall, its a kitschy fun restaurant.

Farther down the strip is the Peppermill, which is a fun place for drinks.

Having a car can give you more options, but it adds to the cost.

I always do it on the cheap

First stay Downtown, everything food, drink, rooms gaming etc. is cheaper Downtown and if the cards in one casino are cold you need only cross the street to find another hot one. It is also far less crowded. Yes it is just as safe as, if not safer than, the Strip.

The Strip is just a bus ride away. Save bucks get the 24 hour pass which is now $7.00

Buy food and drink at less expensive stores, get beer, booze and snacks for the room,

Check out the specials at the various restaurants.

Get an American Casino Guide at any book store or on line for less than $20.00 you get some great coupons.

No taxis, instead walk or get to know the CAT bus system.

If you eat out at buffets, then eat lunch as it is usually far cheaper than dinner.

The Las Vegas Advisor website has some great information.

You will also get some nice coupons at your hotel.

Using the ACG coupons, stay at one hotel, get the 2nd night free, then shift to another hotel and do it again there, check the coupons for restrictions..

Go to the websites for the hotels and get on their e-mailing lists for deals. Follow this amusing link to learn more about the hotels and get links to their websites. http://www.cheapovegas.com/index.php

Don’t say no to fast food.

Other things to do on a budget, the neon museum bone yard, the free attractions, fountains, volcano etc. the natural history museum, nearby state parks and the dam. Remember that it costs nothing to go into the fancy places on the strip and gawk.

Pick a few shows that interest you then hit the half priced ticket places and see what is available from your list. Note the top headliner will probably not be on the list. Get in line 30 minutes before tehy open because if you get there when they open you will still be in line for 30 minutes but the best tickets will be gone.

We travel on a budget . . . always!

I think you%26#39;ve made a good choice with the MGM . . . especially if the pool is important to you. We spend HOURS out there!

Some less expensive eats in the area:

The grill out at the pool has excellent food as does %26#39;wichcraft%26#39; in the walkway to the pool.

Stage Deli at MGM

America over at NYNY

The food court at NYNY -- especially Greenberg%26#39;s Deli and the pizza place (sorry, can%26#39;t remember the name).

Without knowing what freebies you%26#39;ve already done, it%26#39;s hard to advise on attractions, shows, etc., but I agree with the suggestions of Big Elvis and hitting up Tix4Tonite for discounted show tickets.

If you have a strong ability to say ';No'; . . . spend a couple hours at a time share presentation . . . but only if they give you good free show tickets and buffet passes. Friends of ours do this every trip. It wouldn%26#39;t be for me . . . I%26#39;d end up buying the darned thing!!

Buy a bus pass, get onto the upper deck and cruise the strip :) It%26#39;s quite an education taking it downtown as well!

And I do recommend an evening downtown. As previously stated, things are less expensive there and very different from the strip.

Google cheapolasvegas (just end it with a .com) for lots of ideas.

If you haven%26#39;t been to Sam%26#39;s Town it%26#39;s worth a look. They have a free bus that stops at Harrah%26#39;s. They have a free laser/fountain show in the evenings, and a pretty decent buffet for dinner. The price varies depending on the evening special, we go on Tuesdays for Italian which is less than 15 bucks. The sportsbook has been remodeled and they have full-pay vp. The food court previously mentioned at NYNY is behind the America deli and has good inexpensive food. There is also an Earl of Sandwich at PH in the casino.

Def Leppard, Poison, Cheap Trick...

Greetings...

Just heard last week, of a concert featuring the above bands...has anyone heard of this, and know any more about tickets etc...?

Thanks...

Rob...

Def Leppard, Poison, Cheap Trick...

If you go to the website of Def Leppard, that%26#39;ll give you dates and places they are playing. I am a huge fan of DL, so I%26#39;m waiting for tickets to go on sale. Good luck and have fun. I love DL.

Def Leppard, Poison, Cheap Trick...

The three bands are touring together this summer. The Vegas concert is supposed to be September 5, which is the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. No info yet about venue, so ticket sales yet.

BTW, you could have easily obtained all this info at DefLeppard.com. The Internet is your friend!

I saw a this concert last summer in Cincinnati. It was great.

Hey Stratton...

Thanks for the 411, and i know the interent is my friend, hence the reason i%26#39;m here...i did get what info was on DL%26#39;s site, but was wondering more specifically on tickets, venue in Vegas etc...the only info that is on their site, is a date, and that it%26#39;s in Vegas...

I thought if there was a local that trolls the site here, might be able to provide any info perhaps...

Wreck...

The venue is MGM Grand Arena.

One of the ticket broker sites says Sept 5, 2009 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Not on sale yet, according to ticketmaster.

Thanks for the replys, and location...now, just to get tickets...

Wreck...

This publication seems to lean toward the Vegas music scene. I pick it up everytime I%26#39;m in town. Check out their site, maybe even subscribe.

  • Signature at MGM Grand - fellow smokers please help!

    Hi Folks,

Please help a desperate smoker! We are staying at the Signature MGM Grand and apparently entirely non smoking - does that include outside in the grounds as well? If so how far will I have to walk for a smoke? (only me that smokes so hubby is SO not interested!) Thank you fellow puffers!

Signature at MGM Grand - fellow smokers please help!

Did you not know this when you booked it?

Signature at MGM Grand - fellow smokers please help!

There are designated outdoor smoking areas on the grounds.

Thank you for your helpful comment.

ZekeKelso, thank you so much, my last comment was not directed at you. I do appreciate you taking the time to respond. My partner does not smoke so we ALWAYS select non smoking rooms, as I would not dream of inflicting my %26#39;smoke%26#39; on anyone else. Cheers

    TR 2/20-2/26 First timer..MGM

So I had to do some work in Vegas for a convention, but Hubby and I went out a few days early as we had never been.

Flew out of Orlando Friday and got air sick about 3/4 of the way through the flight. Landed 30 min late for no reason, get off plane, stand in 20 minute taxi line then off to MGM. Check into a king bunglow suite. Room was nice and just what we needed for the few days he was out there. Except we were on the 4th floor and those darn green lights shine right in the window from that floor.

Decided to eat MGM dinner buffet as they advertise King Crab legs. THIS IS WRONG. They are snow crab, and on top of that the buffet was not great at all! I refused to eat there again. $30.00 was a waste.

Satuday came and we were still on East Coast time, so dressed and out of the room by 8. Walking the strip, weather is beautiful today, maybe 65 and sunny. Walk to Planet Hollywood and have the breakfast buffet for $15 a person. It was wonderful! The selection of fresh fruits, smoothies made to order, crepes made to order and many other things were completely endless and everything was good!

Leave PH and continue north looking through hotels and casinos and seeing everything we can. Make it all the way to Treasure Island before crossing the street to walk back towards MGM. Stop in the Bellagio to read thier dinner menu and decide yes to eat thier buffet.

Go back to MGM (walking) and take a nap before getting dressed. Eat at Belagio Buffet early (530) and it was GREAT! Would spend the $35 to eat thier any time. SO many options! Fresh sushi, seafood, salads, desserts... to many things to list! Go back to MGM so I can take another nap. (pregnant) and then do the 930 showing of KA! I was super tired and slept through most of it even though we were 4th row! What I did see (the begining and end) was fabulous and hubby enjoyed alot!

Sunday comes and we decide to see whats on the south strip past MGM so walk to NYNY to Excaliber, find a Krispy Kreme donut and devour a few hot glazed with coffee. Keep walking and shopping our way to Mandalay Bay and hit Burgar Bar at 11am. We are from the south and eat alot of red meat. We both had the Angus burgers with different toppings. $40 after tip and I have to say one of the BEST burgers we have ever had!! Back to MGM where hubby checks out for 2pm flight an I check in for work under my name. I am given a key and sent to my room and as I am walking I keep thinking those double doors at the end of the hall CANT be mine.. this has to be wrong... It wasn%26#39;t. I was in a MARQUEE SUITE on floor 19. FABULOUS room!! I instantly dove in the huge tub, you could lay completely down or sit up with it to your shoulders! HUGE.

Went to O by myself at 1030. I have waited YEARs to see this show. Always saying if I am ever in Vegas thats all I care to see. Hmm it was good, should have seen before Ka though as it wasn%26#39;t nearly as exciting. But still decent.

Monday was nothing special, small breakfast with some people I work with, a little work and then the Rio Seafood buffet. It was $39 a person and suprisingly very good. Everything was fresh, the snow crab was huge and yummy, desserts great to. I%26#39;d eat there again, but only if your a seafood lover obviously.

Tuesday Krispy Kreme donuts again with coffe and off to work, then dinner reservations at Tao for 830. Tried a bit of everyones, Temura Roll Sushi, Tempura Onion Rings, Wok seared sirloin and a seafood mixture in black bean sauce. Everything was wonderful and about $120.

Wed was breakfast at Studio Cafe in the MGM. The most amazing and fresh blueberry pancakes I have ever had in my life! Worked till 330, grabbed a burger from McDs (mistake) then had a black tie awards gala to go to over near the palms. Food was terrible but I was still not hungry from the burger upsetting me. Black Violin and Toxic Audio were the entertainment and amazing, some other cheesy vegas acts were there also but no need to mention names.

Thursday morning I pack and head off to airport at 740 for a 940 flight. Grabbed a snack and was off to Huston then to Orlando. The layover in the middle was way better then a long flight!

I didn%26#39;t really gamble much, few bills in the slots to say I did it and played the roulett table once and won $70 on my first bet then walked away with only $7 more then I originally placed down.

Good week but unless for work I will not be back in Vegas any time soon. Seems like there is only shopping and gambling to do there and Im stingy with my money! haha

    TR 2/20-2/26 First timer..MGM

Vegas isn%26#39;t for everyone! Thank God, or us addicts would have to pay more and line up more! Sounds like you had some fun at least. Also, as much as I LOVE the MGM I agree with you on the buffet and green hue in the room.

    Mags

    TR 2/20-2/26 First timer..MGM

Thanks for the trip report, and I agree with you re: MGM buffet - it never fails to disappoint, lol. Wonder why you got the big suite? Did your work pay for it? Wow.

Hey! We talked before you left!!! Glad you had a somewhat good time and like others have said, Vegas isn%26#39;t for everyone but good job on the Marquee Suite!!! That%26#39;s very cool. To bad your husband didn%26#39;t get to see it......

Oh and you saying we%26#39;re from the ';south'; LoL We live so far south in Florida we%26#39;re BELOW the South. :-)

    Vegas for gambling? Who knew!

Thanks for the trip report and the warnings about the MGM buffet... ';Well heeded is well heard';... We will avoid it when we stay there in april. :)

    ';Seems like there is only shopping and gambling to do there and Im stingy with my money! ';

Thanks very much for the TR! Always nice to read about other people%26#39;s trips.

    I did notice that most of your TR was dedicated to the shows that you saw and seemed to enjoy, the meals you ate and mostly enjoyed, and your ';fabulous'; room. Sounds like you had a good time, but I%26#39;m puzzled by your conclusion that there%26#39;s ';only shopping and gambling to do there....';

    Anyway, thanks!

Thanks for the trip report. Too bad hubby didn%26#39;t get to stay with you in your Marquis Suite. Unlike you, I love the gambling - and the shows, and the food and just walking in and out of each hotel to check out whats there.

    Mizuno's at the Tropicana...worth it?

We are heading out to The Promised Land in late February. Have you eaten at Mizuno%26#39;s at the Tropicana? We are looking for a ';fun'; and tasty japanese restaraunt.

I think this is the restaraunt they featured on one of the Travel Channel shows. Looks like a nice place to spend some time and get a good meal.

Is it good food and is it expensive? In other words, is it worth it or are there better options?

    Thanks in advance.

    Mizuno's at the Tropicana...worth it?

It%26#39;s fastest and easiest to do some footwork on your own and visit a hotel%26#39;s site:

    http://www.tropicanalv.com/dining_mizunos.asp

Asking if something ( a restaurant, hotel, attraction, etc.) is %26#39;worth it%26#39; will generate many answers because it%26#39;s such a subjective question. One man%26#39;s trash is another man%26#39;s treasure. For some, the sake is always greener in the other Japanese restaurant. If you%26#39;re curious, then go there and eat and let us know what you think! While at the Trop, see Folies Bergere before it%26#39;s gone forever, as it was announced today the show will close in 2 months.

    Mizuno's at the Tropicana...worth it?

Asking if something ( a restaurant, hotel, attraction, etc.) is %26#39;worth it%26#39; will generate many answers because it%26#39;s such a subjective question.

Nightman, thanks for responding, but that is one dumb answer. I have researched this restaraunt, including the site you listed. Not much help. That is the whole idea of my post, to get as many ';real'; opinions as possible from people like me who have gone already.

As far as ';going myself, and posting my comments';, I do that. I have posted many trip reports and actual, real life opinions for everyone. That%26#39;s what makes this forum so good, honest reviews. I have received many great opinions from many nice people here.

hey there kentucky...We ate there 2 years ago...(my last time there)..and we are headed back in 2 weeks...we will definately stop in again...last time we were a party of 4 and hooked up with another pty of 4 at the table..had a great time swaping stories and laughs...sake was great!..this time we will be a pty of 6 so not sure what will happen but i know we will have a blast any which way...after all its vegas! oh yeah food was also great :)

bighappy, now thats an answer! I%26#39;m sorry if I offended anyone, I was just not prepared for a post like that one. I%26#39;m really a Big Teddy Bear!

After what you said, I think we (4 of us) will give it a try. Thanks again for the help! We are going in 35 days.....HeHe.

I%26#39;ll be there in the middle of February, so I%26#39;ll try to post a review when I get back.

Hi KentuckySteve, I agree with you 100% that this forum is great for the honest reviews and great opinions. I%26#39;ve learned a lot here and check in frequently for mini-doses of Las Vegas, because I can never be there as often as I%26#39;d like. The Tropicana was my hotel of choice until a few years ago when their slide became so precipitous that it was reflected in room condition, service and general maintenance throughout the entire resort. I don%26#39;t mind that you flubbed my name or continue to misspell the word restaurant, but calling a response dumb simply because you didn%26#39;t like one sentence and then placing in quotes something I didn%26#39;t even say is ...well, dumb. One question you asked was, ';';...is it expensive?'; The link I provided features Mizuno%26#39;s menu with their prices and answers that question. Some might think they%26#39;re expensive, others not. As for, ';Is it worth it?';, if YOU want to go, then it%26#39;s worth it! Asking specifics is one thing, but I find asking whether something is worth it or not vague adn subjective and often generates wildly variant responses that can leave one right back where they started (just ask about Battista%26#39;s!). Nothing personal was intended. Simply out, I%26#39;m a big advocate of trying new things and discovering on one%26#39;s own. If a person has a curiosity, I urge them to satisfy it themself. You only live once - make the most of that one life. Have a great time in my favorite getaway city.

Thanks to all that responded. We will give it a try, can%26#39;t wait.

Luvmymutt, I look forward to your review when you return. Good Luck, but please leave me a LITTLE money out there! Have a GREAT time.

    Hey there Kantucky,

Me and my honey are headed back to vegas Feb 19-23 and we ALWAYS go to Mizunos, everytime!! We always have a fantastic time and love love love their food. We usually spend around 75-100 for the both of us depending on what we order (ie: drinks, appetizers) But one bit of advice that I will give you is GET THE FRIED RICE!!!! It is divine but limit the order to 1 per every 2 ppl, it is a big order and will feed 2 easily. The filet is the best we have ever had, the shrimp, scallops, chicken....all worth it, you might try the Emporers Feast (think thats what its called) which basically gives you a sample of everything....cost is around $90 I think but would easily feed 3 in my opinion.

Hope this helps ....oh and we always take in the Comedy Stop as well, after dinner, gives time to have the food digest and its always a a funny good time, its right up the stairs and around the corner from Mizunos.

    Have a great time!!!!!

    Tricia

    and sorry for mis-spelling your name K E N T U C K Y....lol

Tricia, THANK YOU for responding!! I think we will give it a try this time by what you have said. We are going Fe. 23-27.

And the Kantucky thing, no big deal. We usually get called much worse that that.....hillbillies, toothless and barefoot, country bumpkins...etc.

Do me one big favor since you are going the week before me.....leave SOME money out there for us....don%26#39;t win it all!

Hotels with honeymoon deals? Any tips?

    Hey,

I%26#39;m just arranging a suprise honeymoon to Vegas, and wondered if any of the hotels do honeymoon offers?

If not, what is the best way to approach getting a room upgrade or show tickets at a discount...or even the penthouse for $50!?!?!

    Many thanks.

Hotels with honeymoon deals? Any tips?

I%26#39;m not aware of any special honeymoon offers. You have to try to realize that on any given day there are probably hundreds of people honeymooning in Vegas.

That being said, hotel desk clerks are human beings and many do have a soft spot for newlyweds. You can always mention when you check in that you%26#39;re on your honeymoon and ask if any upgrades are available. Depending on how full they are, they may be able to do something for you.

However, I would advise you to forget about getting the ';penthouse for $50';. There%26#39;s a difference between hope and dementia.

Hotels with honeymoon deals? Any tips?

Also, you can get same-day discount show tickets at several booths on the Strip and downtown. This is ideal if there isn%26#39;t one particular show you have your heart set on seeing.

Cheers for that...and here%26#39;s me thinking the dementia sets in only after the honeymoon is over!?

SoccerStu - Some would argue the dementia is a necessary precursor for the engagement, LOL...

If you find a nice room for the price you can afford..just jot a note in the comment section when you are reserving that it is your honeymoon... who knows, when you check-in,maybe a free upgrade...it has happened before, according to some posters.. Congratulations on your upcoming marraige!!!

    Monte Carlo?

    Hi!

I found a good deal in the Monte Carlo, and I was very happy about it till I started reading some reviews and now I have some doubts about my selection.

First time in Vegas, so I%26#39;m totally ignorant about everything!

Would you choose the Monte Carlo or go instead for Bally%26#39;s, Harrah%26#39;s or Flamingo?

I don%26#39;t ask too much, mainly cleaniness, but if the place is very run down it%26#39;s gonna be depressing, so I%26#39;m trying to avoid it :)

    Monte Carlo?

Monte Carlo%26#39;s not run down, the criticisms are mostly around the noise/dust from the City Center construction next door, and the fact that the pool is currently closed.

Of your other choices, probably Flamingo is #1.

    Monte Carlo?

Monte carlo is not bad at all. It%26#39;s not the inn place, but it%26#39;s decent, clean and you can get a good deal from them. Casino is pretty nice and the location is not bad either. For this money it is the best selection IMHO.

    Thanks for the answers!

Now I%26#39;m checking some other deals so I%26#39;m going crazy with the decision. It is just two nights (the first one is gonna be in MGM, great deal!), but I want to take a good decision and have a good time.

OK, new options w/prices (really, there%26#39;s only few bucks of difference...)

Monte Carlo for 70 with 2 buffets and other freebies

Luxor for 60 room only, 70 with 2 per 1 things

MGM for 80 with some resort credit ($35 I think)

or NY NY for 68 room only

    What you would choose?

Ah! and another question, do you think that is worth to spend the extra 30 or 40 dollars and stay in one of these hotels instead of Harrah%26#39;s, Flamingo, etc???

    Thanks!!!!

We like Monte Carlo and the location is really great. It is just as good as Ballys and Flamingo imho. Ballys also has a great location and is attached to Paris. I read a post on this forum a little while ago that said somebody called the hotel and the pool will be open March 1.

But you would say that the rooms are similar?

Personally, I think you would be silly to stay in a different hotel each night. Wouldn%26#39;t you rather spend less of your precious time checking in and checking out and moving luggage?

Just stay at MGM for both nights.

No, it%26#39;s one night at MGM, and then 2 nights somewhere else...

Personally I would stay at the MGM the entire time to avoid the hassles of checking in and checking out. The Monte Carlo won%26#39;t be as bad with the lines, but I%26#39;ve had well over 1 hour waits to get into Flamingo.

My Wife Panicked And Now We're Committed.

My wife and I had talked about going to the AARP convention being held in Las Vegas in October. Last week I had looked it up and got a list of the speakers, but the performers at the concerts hadn%26#39;t been announced yet.

Saturday night we are in our den using our respective computers, when my wife exclaimes ';All the old people are going to Las Vegas!'; ';What'; I say.

';I went into the AARP sight to check on concert tickets and it took me 6 tries to find decent seats. All the old people are snapping up the tickets! The inner circle is all gone and so is the 1st section. So I had to ask fast. So here are our seats.'; And she hands me a print-out.

    ';What do you mean you had to act fast---it%26#39;s 8 months away?';

    ';They were getting all the good seats. They probably were all waiting for tickets to go on sale and then were snapping them up.';

So now we have tickets for both Thursday and Friday night concerts. So I guess we are committed. We%26#39;re going to Las Vegas in October.

And I haven%26#39;t even booked our May trip yet, lol.

My Wife Panicked And Now We're Committed.

lol, sounds like my wife when Cher tickets used to go on sale....

Wife%26#39;s cousin went to one in Boston and said they have lots of big time stars at those events...

    Now get working on May!

My Wife Panicked And Now We're Committed.

    ';but the performers at the concerts hadn%26#39;t been announced yet';

I can%26#39;t wait to see what happens when folks learn it%26#39;s going to be Ludiacris and Young Jeezy

    Heck, it was the AARP crowd that gave Young Jeezy his name: ';Listen here, you young jeezy!';

Hahaha...my husband could sympathasize with you. I do that to him all the time. Just bought our plane tickets for August last night....don%26#39;t want the price to go up or the good times/seats to be gone. It%26#39;s only 5 months away...hahaha...as soon as show tickets go on sale I%26#39;ll check on them, panic, and have everything paid for 4 months in advance before all the promotions come out.

May! Are you kidding? I%26#39;ve got to start working to find rates for October. Don%26#39;t you just love going to Las Vegas the week of a major convention?

lol they do Pannick not like us men!! Rule no 1 never panick rule no 2 first learn rule no 1...

VegasSue: Thank you. They updated the site today and added Friday%26#39;s performers. But not our mystery concert on Thursday yet.

And they added some more speakers. Personally I will be interested in hearing Norman Lear.

  • Tix for tonight kiosks near Bellagio

Which tix for tonight kiosk is closest to Bellagio Hotel and is it walkable? The fashion show mall, the giant coke bottle or the one at Bills casino.

    Help much appreciated.

Tix for tonight kiosks near Bellagio

The one at Bills is the closest...just a short walk, by Vegas standards, across a couple of pedestrian bridges. Bills is diagonally across from the Bellagio

Tix for tonight kiosks near Bellagio

You might check out their website. www.tix4tonite.com. They have 6 locations. The prior poster gave you the Bill%26#39;s location and the next closest would probably be Hawaiian Marketplace. South of Planet Hollywood. Bills would definitely be closer for you.

Less than 12 hours to go..........

All packed and ready to go! 12 hours until the flight leaves from London for destination Las Vegas. This time tomorrow I hope to be beating the dealer at blackjack!

    Woo hoo!

    Prive or Tryst

We have 2 couples going that are 30. We really enjoy Moon at the Palms and am wondering if Prive or Tryst would be a better club? We will be there this Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

    Bach. Party and Hotel

I know its been asked before, but I%26#39;m trying to plan my Bachelor party for April. I stayed at the TI in previous visit and would like to try something different this time. Any suggestions? There%26#39;s about 10 of us and not looking to spend a ton on rooms ($90-140 per night). Like to stay somewhere on the strip.

As for activities I remember some places to check out. But anything out of the ordinary a Bachelor party should try?

    Bach. Party and Hotel

It doesn%26#39;t have any flashy amenities, but I%26#39;ll be there for a bachelorette party and we rented a two bedroom unit at the Jockey Club for a great price. Reviews pretty much say it%26#39;s a clean, average place to stay with an awesome location (next to Bellagio). There%26#39;s reviews on here also. PM me if you have any questions.

    Bach. Party and Hotel

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on the pending nuptials. Age Group? When in April? Most of the Gentlemen%26#39;s Clubs do packages which work out real nice and save tons of Money. Why are you doing all the planning and not your Bestman???

Its kinda a long story why I%26#39;m doing the planning, my best man (my brother) isn%26#39;t exactly the greatest planner. Our age group is 24-27. So obviously we%26#39;ll visit one of the gent%26#39;s club, but that gets kinda old after while.

Forgot to mention we%26#39;re planning on coming out late April.

See if you can%26#39;t afford Mandalay Bay. That%26#39;s where I%26#39;d want to go. It might be pushing your budget, but try code PWKEND or find the weekend escape package on their website.

I just checked Mandalay Bay and that code, and prices look pretty decent. Thanks for the advice

Try indoor skydiving, preferably not hungover

its right off the strip and a great time

Check www.smartervegas.com for promotional codes to the various hotels. Also, check out the individual hotel websites for specials/promtions.

Mandalay Bay is a good suggestion, but also check out PH and the Venetian. My son and his buddies loved PH when they stayed there for a bachelor party. I mention Venetian because rooms ar so nice and they get a good party type crowd on weekends.

Im not sure they are in your budget and they aren%26#39;t on the strip but the best hotels for a bachelor party for your age group are:

    1. Hard Rock

    2. The Palms

Cirque show vs. MGM's Crazy Horse Paris

I am trying to decide whether to attend a Cirque show or MGM%26#39;s Crazy Horse Paris. Anyone have any thoughts about either? My husband and I are in our late 20s and have been to Vegas before but have never seen a show!

    Thanks.

Cirque show vs. MGM's Crazy Horse Paris

I suggest Le Reve at the Wynn. It is like a Cirque show only better than O IMO.

Cirque show vs. MGM's Crazy Horse Paris

Well, you%26#39;re talking about two different things,. Cirque shows feature acrobatics and what I would call performance art. Crazy Horse Paris is an adult revue with topless dancers. Only you can decide which of these two types of shows you are more interested in.

Crazy horse sounds like fun... are there discount tickets available? :)

Yes, I think they have discount tickets for that show at the booths, usually.

Does anyone know if Le Reve tickets are also sold at the discount ticket booths? Thanks.

See them both, they%26#39;re completely different!

This is a warning for those UK residents travelling to the USA. As from January this year you are now required to fill in a ESTA form online 72 hours before travel.

    Future of the gold spike?

Does anyone know when the remodeling will be done? I heard they were gonna turn it into a time share place a few years down the road, and my friend said when they are done remodling it it will be nicer than the gold nugget. But he is an idiot, so I don%26#39;t believe him. and yes he was dead serious.

    Future of the gold spike?

Latest news reports state thet is has become downtown%26#39;s newest shooting gallery.

    Future of the gold spike?

I find it amazing that you are not considering the strip a shooting gallery. FAR more of these incidents have gone on there... including NFL quarterbacks being attacked, and bombs planted, and shootings, and knifings.

Latest news reports states that it has become downtown%26#39;s newest shooting gallery.

Still gotta be better than Jackson MS.

To answer the question The remodeling of the Casino should be done this year. Then they plan on remodeling the rooms. So the casino is looking OK as of Sept. It will be interesting to see once they get tables back.

As far as being nicer than the GN not sure that will happen anytime soon. But if they open 1 good BJ table they will have the GN%26#39;s casino beat.

Opps I%26#39;m jumping the Gun I mean the Casino should be done in 09. The year is already over in my mind I guess.

the casino renovation looks like it is almost complete. they have table games again, which is great. The diner looks awesome. Service has improved and the food is dtill cheap and delicious. Im not sure when the rooms will be done though.

    Reno to Tahoe

I am looking for a ski weekend next weekend and saw that hotels are much less expensive in reno. How long of a drive is it from reno to the slopes?

    Reno to Tahoe

Mt. Rose is the closest at about 45 minutes. Squaw is between 60 and 75 minutes. Heavenly is no more than 90 minutes. Alpine Meadows, add 15 minutes to Squaw.

With the slopes opening at 9:00, leaving at 7:30 will get you to all in NLT plus Heavenly by opening time.

Hotel rates in SLT for week-ends are out of sight, as you already know. This is why Reno stays on the radar screen.

    Reno to Tahoe

Diamond Peak in Incline Village has ski/stay packages with some good rates.

    diamondpeak.com/lake_tahoe/ski_stay_packages

beware. diamond peak is the absolute worst ski area i%26#39;ve ever been to. anywhere.

lelandpalmer, how about you make recommendations instead of just critisizing the recommendations made by others? Would that just be too hard for you?

Squaw Valley has a free shuttle from hotels in Reno. Here%26#39;s a link:

    http://www.squaw.com/free-reno-shuttle

So even if you are not happy to drive in winter conditions you can get to the slopes.

well, thanks for asking, suzie. i’m always glad to help out, so I’ll try.

you, yourself mentioned squaw which is, of course, a fine choice. as is alpine meadows. i’m also kind of partial to sugar bowl, although it doesn’t seem to be mentioned much anymore, at least not by any of you “experts”. to the south, heavenly’s only about an hour away. and kirkwood is good, but that’s a little too long of a drive, even though you can stop for a leisurely breakfast at zephyr cove, you%26#39;ll be bone tired on the way back. for sheer convenience you just can’t beat mt. rose. a pleasant diversion for a day’s skiing with varied terrain.

i trust that canative didn’t feel “critisized”. he didn’t recommend diamond peak, just pointed out that some cheap deals were available there. and while i don’t know where our visitor was coming from, i do know that if I came from anywhere (other than perhaps incline) i would be very disappointed if i ended up at diamond peak.

On the contrary, I love Sugar Bowl. I recommend it whenever it seems appropriate and logical. From Reno, Sugar Bowl seems far enough away that they may be better off going to a nice resort like Squaw. Don%26#39;t get what the quotes around the word ';expert'; is for though. But whatever.

dont worry suzie you are more then a expert on the tahoe area and i know many of us appreciate your input

    Thanks.

I happen to think that the more opinions here on TA the better. It%26#39;s not necessary to agree either. To put your opinion out there you don%26#39;t have to put down anothere person%26#39;s opinion. Just state you have a different oipinion and why. The reason there is chocolate and vanilla is because not everyone likes the same thing. If ski resorts are so bad why would so many people enjoy them? Because they have something to offer that some people like. All ski resorts are different and appeal to different people. That seems about right doesn%26#39;t it?

WOW! Thank you all for all your great insight. I%26#39;ve made plans to visit Jackson Hole. (it was much less expensive and only a few miles from the airport to the slopes)

When I get some extra cash I%26#39;ll be jetting to Lake Tahoe.

It looks like the most beautiful place.

THanks again. You all are great!

The Rat Pack is Back show

We%26#39;re staying downtown in a couple of weeks, and want to go see TRPIB. I want to get the tickets at the half price booth at the Four Queens - will they be there? Also, I occasionally check the RPIB website to see how full price tickets are selling - and they%26#39;re not. What I mean is, it looks like they sell 160 tickets for each show, and you can check on any given night (even a Saturday) and up to a day or two ahead they still have 158-160 tickets available.

This means to me either I%26#39;m looking at something incorrectly or do they sell almost ALL their tickets at half price?

The Rat Pack is Back show

We bought our tickets last October at the Fashion

show mall...we needed four but only two were availble. The clerk just make a phone call, and more tickets were released for sale through tix2nite.

So, not sure how all of their tickets are sold, but there seems to be no maximum as to how many are sold 1/2 price.

The Rat Pack is Back show

They were at our Indian casino recently. I didn%26#39;t get to go. May try to see them this time.

Have a good time Warmwinds :)

You should have no problem getting them at the discount booth.

Stratton, I do remember you said you went and enjoyed it, but couldn%26#39;t remember where you sat - is it seating at tables, or like a theater? Don%26#39;t want to be TOO close but on the other hand don%26#39;t want to be too far either.

Also, we do NOT want the dinner - do the dinner people automatically get the better seats?

We went for the dinner part too, and those seats are RIGHT up front, we really enjoyed the show too. Frank Sinatra was the best but Dean was good too. I was never all that familiar with Joey but Sammy was good too. The meal was actually pretty good, I believe your choices were beef or chicken.

So are all the seats (even the non dinner ones) at tables, and all flat on the floor (not terraced)?

As I remember it, show was around 6-7 (we start drinking way before that) LOL any way all along the stage right below it are the dinner tables, they are long and seat about guessing 12 and there are about 8-10,, but the rest of the theatre is like movie theatre seats,,,

Also, thinking harder, right behind the dinner tables , before the movie theatre seats start there are booth type seats,, lining the whole way before the seats go upwards,, gosh, I hope I am making sense to you!!

Yes you are making sense - I%26#39;m sure we%26#39;ll want the movie theater seats. I sit very low (even though I%26#39;m not short, I%26#39;m all legs) and I%26#39;m always blocked by heads, so theater-type seating sounds perfect.

Go to the bar before you are seated right out front there and you can get a really cheap drink, we did shots of Crown, for 2.00 each.. I just did it cause everybody else did, but for 2 bucks and to have a nice little buzz for the show,,(but must finish before entering) yeah yeah I%26#39;m a cheapo but it was a nice treat as opposed to the strip prices,, and on a side note, (since you%26#39;%26#39;ll be downtown) the little cafe at Golden Gate, had real good prices, just an old time diner!!

I have found some great deals for meals though!!!!

    Is this really worth buying?

Is it only deals on off-strip locations?

Are there any offers in it that are not in the mag. in your hotel room?

    Brunes,

I bought one online for like 11 bucks with shipping - I am going in April, staying at NYNY - and have no intention of going DT - I go twice a year and stay at at MGM prop where I get the best comps and deal.

To answer your question, there are a few coupons I will be able to use, but I was not as impressed with the book as I had hoped. Lots of lower tier property offers and match play at places I will honestly never use. Just my 2 cents -

Thanks for the honest opinion; maybe I will take a look and see if I can find it at a local store, sounds like I would not be missing much otherwise.

    other pools

I will be staying at Hooters in April but I was wondering if you are allowed to go to another hotels pool for the day for free or is there a fee.

    other pools

Last year non-guests could use the Flamingo pool for free after 2PM. The Rio and Golden Nuggest charged admission. Some of the tops optional pool- like Bare at the Mirage- also charged a fee. But things change quickly in Vegas so I don%26#39;t know what the policy will be this year. Other than those examples-no, you can%26#39;t just use any hotel%26#39;s pool even for a fee. They check room keys and some even swipe the key to see if it is active.

    Qua Spa .....

I%26#39;m staying at the Flamingo...Can I charge that to my room at the Flamingo even though it%26#39;s at CP?

    Just booked Mandalay Bay...

Yup, 7 nights starting march 29th. We have usually stayed at the cheaper places but stepped up to the bay. One of the few hotels not charging for kids in the room. Used the smartervegas code and got the room for $800 for the week. Paris, mgm, TI etc all were over $1200 due to their ';kids pay'; rule. Apparently MB has a huge wave pool and beach. The kids will love that. Can%26#39;t wait to surprise the wife and kids tonight. wooot wooot!

    Just booked Mandalay Bay...

Congrats. I%26#39;m staying at MB as well in a few months. Booked on a great promo. First time I%26#39;ve seen MB under $100/night in years.

    Just booked Mandalay Bay...

Good for you. Yopu%26#39;ll enjoy MB a lot, it is great resort. The kids will love the pool area, hope you get great weather in late March. They also have one of the best buffets, IMO in vegas, ask to get a spot overlooking the pool area. Kids should also like the burger bar in the mandalay place, I go for the waitresses myself:)

    Enjoy!

great choice we love MB the kids will love the pool.Stop at walgreens to pick up rafts for the pool. They charge like 15 or twenty bucks to rent for the day for the lazy river.Buffet Very good/Burger bar Very good/ HOB good for lunch

For the adults the Bathhouse Spa is great Rumjungle for lunch/Red Square Bar

Mexican place is real good also

I think you will be real happy wishin you warm sunny days

You can buy restaurant.com gift certificates for Border Grill at Mandalay Bay.

I think you%26#39;ll be quite happy with Mandalay Bay, and the kids will love the pool area if it%26#39;s open by then! They can also visit Shark Reef. Two doors down at Excalibur, they may enjoy the Tournament of Kings dinner show. They get to eat with their hands and watch the knights jousting tournament.

    discount at Margaritaville

In the March 09 issue of my Las Vegas Advisor, it says that Total Rewards members can get 20% off breakfast or retail items at Margaritaville from 7am-11am daily. Not sure when this discount started, or when it ends, but hope this info is helpful to someone!

    discount at Margaritaville

bumping this back to the top. I%26#39;m curious if anyone has received this discount by using their TR card?? I%26#39;m going in May and hoping this discount is still being offered then.

    discount at Margaritaville

cool - one of our fav places and I always buy something in the retail shop every trip - thanks so much for letting us know this, have never bdeen told this by Harrah%26#39;s e-mails.

I just hope the info from Las Vegas Advisor is correct!

I just recently also found out that I can take my receipt from our Donny %26amp; Marie tix (going to see them Mar.27) and get credit/poimnts put on our TR card.

American Casino Guide vs. Las Vegas Advisor

I would like to get some opinions here. Which one is better, the ACG (approx. $15)or the Las Vegas advisor (approx. $37). Anyone used the coupons out of both? I have used the ACG and it is good, but it looks like the advisor is better.

American Casino Guide vs. Las Vegas Advisor

LVA - not for the coups - for the members only areas of the website.

the coups are GREAT - many are exclusive to LVA and what most people join to receive. I%26#39;d pay that for the forums alone - user-friendly, categorized, great members.

Comparing coups only LVA still better, the EV is much higher. You don%26#39;t have to choose - buy ACG and join LVA!

American Casino Guide vs. Las Vegas Advisor

We use both. The ACG is nice since it is cheap and offers some good deals if you are going to spend your time at the locations included in the coupon offerings.

I always rate LVA number one for our mney. First, you are not buying a book like you do with ACG. You are becoming a member of LVA and because of that are allowed the Member%26#39;s Rewards booklet containing some great coupons. The forums, monthly newsletter, daily deals coupons, Jean Scott%26#39;s Frugal Gambler spot, updates on what%26#39;s happening in LV, and more, is what you are paying for. The book is a great perk and we use many of the coupons.

Next trip I plan on using the 50% off Palms coupon, the Rio buffet, and my husband wants to get some photo%26#39;s from the top of the Strat so we will use the 2/4/1 to the top of the tower. Those three coupons will more than pay for the years membership and I%26#39;ll still have plenty to use the rest of the year.

If you don%26#39;t mind going off the strip the LVA is great. We actually like to play the off strip places anyway.

They have added several shows on the strip and fast food options at NY NY this year too. I%26#39;m still bummed that they removed so many match play coupons though.

What other kinds of information is on the LV advisor forums if I join?

    Thanks Shrinkgirl,

That was the kind of info that I was looking for.

bridge might answer this better but for me I like the forums since they are broken down to individual subject such as specific hotel grougs, restaurants/food, entertainment, coupons, and such.

I look forward to the newsletter every month and I do the $37 option for the online version instead of the paper newsletter mailed to your home. It always has news I can use about things going on in LV, gambling, new places to eat, hotel rates, and so on.

It%26#39;s good quick accurate info for people you love LV and those who go often can really stay abreast of things. JMHO

I used both last year and really liked both of them.

I mostly stay Downtown and the benefits were great. I saved over $150 so I will be doing both again this year. If I had to choose, it would be LVA.

    Benny

We also use both. You get your money back quickly using the coupons. We%26#39;ve used The Flame and the free $10 slot play at El Cortez out of both the LVA coupon book and the ACG. That%26#39;s $35 use from each book for a total of $70 off of dinner %26amp; slot play we would have done anyway. $70 for a cost of $57 and 2009 has barely begun. We%26#39;ve got lots and lots of coupons and match play to use in the year ahead.

LVA%26#39;s website is full of great Vegas info, and the $50 Palms coupon and forum alone is worth the $37 membership.

If you go to Vegas several times a year it%26#39;s worth the money to go with both.

Last year I used ACG but this year I bought ACG and LVA. I think that there are more food coupons in the LVA coupon book. A few of the food coupons I used from ACG last year are not in this year%26#39;s book. I figure that I will save $60 - $80 on food on my upcoming trip from the coupons in LVA. I am also planning on using matchplays this time. I would say if you were only to buy one, buy the LVA.

I always get a rental car and travel all over LV since I spend 5 to 6 there per trip. I figure with just the 2 for 1 buffets at places like the Rio, Green valley Ranch, Red Rock, etc., the LVA will pay for itself. I used the ACG for two different trips last year and saved ~ $100 of food, match play and drink coupons.

I buy both now as they return our investment many times over, especially if we go to LV more than once a year. Initially, I did not like to lug along the POV booklet and all of the loose coupons ';just in case'; or be without a coupon we wanted to use. So I devised an alternative that works very well for us.

The coupons that are most appealing to us are easily found in the spreadsheet that I created with the coupons that will most likely be hunted for anyway. The spreadsheet includes name of establishment, booklet or loose sheet, page number and savings type on the coupon(241 Mon-Thur, 4 free drinks, menu item to $25, etc). I find this little list helpful for me at the time I am composing the list as I find a few that I have overlooked previously. It also is quite handy and time saving to both DH and me when we are in LV. At a glance we can make plans dependent upon the area of town we will be in that day or night and we can choose accordingly. I do not have to drag along the booklet and all the loose coupons wherever we go.

The first list was a little more time-consuming, but now I find I just have to modify page numbers and make a few additions or deletions to any subsequent year list. That first one was fun to make and added to the excitement of going on vacation again.

  • if you could pick only one casino...

to play video poker in, which one would it be?

if you could pick only one casino...

Main Street Station downtown. I don%26#39;t play a lot of VP, but they have a good reputation among many who do.

if you could pick only one casino...

South Point has a bank of eight 9/6/90 JOB machines in denominations of nickle-dime-quarter.

A little closer Gold Coast has bartop quarter 9/6 JOB.

And on the strip Wynn has 9/6 JOB.

I don%26#39;t care about vibe, drinks, or atmosphere. I just want the best chance for my money.

Palms is the best for a good selection of full pay games. I like the VP there, but it is crowded , loud, and dark with a sense of claustrophobia there...

If you have a car and are willing to travel a bit, Arizona Charlies is the best.

    Palms

thanks for all the replies, keep em coming!!! we%26#39;re going out there on 4/14, so any info is great. one more question... i haven%26#39;t booked the trip yet but i%26#39;ve noticed this fee they want for delivery of documents? is that really necessary? i normally just go to the kiosk at the airport.

I love southpoints video poker. Make sure that you sit at the bar too so you can keep the alcohol flowing.

I do pick only one - everyone can.

    I play where I stay - Wynn.

Good VP at my level, restaurants I love, great pool, spa and a fabulous hotel.

When choosing a property the casino, specifically blackjack rules and FPVP are dealbreakers. No reason to stay somewhere without the games I want.

If someone is not staying somewhere with FPVP and must go elsewhere to play that%26#39;s a shame, if you play the level of Wynn it has a great selection. If you need to play quarters Palms has an excellent selection

I like the Flamingo...Bally%26#39;s has it too but at night the card party pits are fun! Beside money you get beads for BJ, plus I have also found the people fun and friendly.

I really enjoyed the Rio the last time we were there. I played a long time and I think I broke even or made a little......It was a fun casino though.....

I would have my butt parked next to darrenfromIndy because MSS has a great selection of VP!! I also like the selection at the Palms.

    Rio Seafood Buffet Coupon

Despite what people say I still like this place. Does anyone know where I can find a coupon? I%26#39;ve searched everywhere on the %26#39;net and can%26#39;t find one.

    Thanks.

    Rio Seafood Buffet Coupon

    bump

    Rio Seafood Buffet Coupon

Las Vegas Advisor has 2-4-1 Rio buffet coupons (costs $37 to join, but you will save much more - see recent thread)

didn%26#39;t ACG used to have one, too? not anymore? :(

    harrahs.com/images/Property/rlv/dining/rlv_v…

Not a $ off coupon but a coupon nonetheless.

    ';...has 2-4-1 Rio buffet coupons...';

how does that help SueA in her quest?

It%26#39;s very rare to find a coupon for the seafood buffet. The Member Rewards coupons from LVA feature a two for one for the regular buffet at Rio and not the seafood buffet. They did have one about five years ago but not since.

You can find coupons for free dessert or a free small steak with purchase of a seafood buffet. They are often in the free mags around town.

If you really want a discount really, really, really want one, sign up for a timeshare presentaion for Wyndham Grand Desert. They give you a voucher for two free seafood buffets if that%26#39;s the ';gift'; you select.

    Fate of the Gold Spike

The Siegel Group continues apace with its makeover of what used to be Las Vegas%26#39; dodgiest casino, the Gold Spike. It will be joined with a nearby motel. A detailed set of plans is on file, complete with color swatches. The exterior will get a complete face lift, there will be cabaƱas by the pool, and a new neon sign is in the works. Enjoy it while you can: Word is that Siegel will run the Spike 2.0 for about five years, then demolish it in favor of something new.

    Details at:

    lasvegasadvisor.com/blogs/dmckee/index.cfm/2…

    Fate of the Gold Spike

When I was there in late August the renovations of the first floor were halfway completed.

    Fate of the Gold Spike

Given that Siegel%26#39;s Westgate Resorts is said to be the world%26#39;s largest timeshare company, I could guess what that ';something new'; might be. Probably biding time until the t/s market is more favorable.

    Thanks for the update, Chi.

    HTR

I will miss the old place

Chi- did you see the photos of the new Cabana Suites at the El Cortez?( formerly the Ogden House Motel..)

    Yes I think I did.

Much as I enjoy the lower-class joints, the Gold Spike was never for me. They had only machines, no table games, and when I was there, there seemed to be extremely open antagonism between various groups of patrons.

I was not the target of any hostility, but there was so much hostility in the air that I was uncomfortable. In that kind of situation, I want to fade away ASAP, because innocent bystanders can often become victims. So I faded!

Maybe I need to check it out again.

Loomis also had a weird vibe there.

Went to the Gold Spike last night for a friends Bday, the table games were finally open! We had a great time. The casino floor renovation looks really good. Loved the flat screen tvs. Overall thought it was a really fun place to hang out. Great deals on drinks and gaming!

So what were the limits on the table games? I am excited to see how the place has evolved since the last time we were in there.

Here%26#39;s an aricle that%26#39;s just 4 days old, well describes the overhaul.

Forum Tower Deluxe or Red Room Premier

For our upcoming trip we have narrowed our accomodations to either FTD or RRP (both comped), If it were me however I would vote for the Deluxe King Suite at IP (since the wife reads this wonderful forum, the IP bashers have gotten to her LOL). Any insight from anybody that has recently had accomodations at both of these room types would be great!! Likes and dislikes pertaining to the rooms would be very helpful

    Thanks

Forum Tower Deluxe or Red Room Premier

The Forum Tower rooms were recently renovated, I%26#39;d stay there since it would mean staying in a brand new room.

Forum Tower Deluxe or Red Room Premier

Agree with Gabby..take the Forum Tower room. Its newer and a bit nicer than the Paris%26#39; rooms. Plus CP as a whole is a bit nicer than Paris as well, IMO. Go with the Romans.

I could be wrong here but aren%26#39;t the Paris Red Rooms recently renovated too. I%26#39;d still opt for Forum Tower though.

    hi everyone,

i am taking my daughter to vegas for her 21st birthday april 14 - 17, 2009. it has been a good many years since i%26#39;ve been and i was wondering what is the best and/or cheapest way to book the trip? also, any recs you can give on accomodations? i%26#39;ve been looking at harrahs but its been about 10 years or so since i stayed there. i%26#39;m not looking to spend alot on the room, rather spend it on gambling, lol. i guess i%26#39;m trying to stay somewhere in the center of things, so that i can show her all vegas has to offer. thanks for any help you can give!

Try Monte Carlo. You can usually get good rates, not too bad a location, friendly smaller casino, foodcourt for cheap eats, O.K. rooms.

We always enjoy this hotel. Ask for a high room away from construction noise.

Happy Birthday to your daughter. Get someone to teach her how to play blackjack and craps and don%26#39;t get her started on the slot machines.

    recommendations please...

thank you for your fast response. i%26#39;ve been looking a travelocity for booking this trip. do you think its the best one?

I would look at smartervegas.com and look at promotions for all of the hotels to see where you can get the best deal. Book directly with the hotel so you can take advantage if prices go down.

Monte Carlo is going to be too quiet for a 21 year old. Try PH (Planet Hollywood), NYNY, MGM or possibly Harrah%26#39;s or Flamingo. Do check www.smartervegas.com for promotional codes. Do book directly with the hotel. Sometimes people book vacation packages and get good prices from airline websites. I noticed you are in N Carolina, could be US Airways would have some good deals for you. Also check expedia if you really want a package deal.

We took daughter and SIL for their 1st wedding anniversary, (ages 23 and 24 at the time, others in their group were 26 and 27), stayed at Harrah’s and they all thought it was great, really loved the Carnaval Court outside and also Margaritaville which was close.

    Have a great time!

What a great birthday present. Unless you get a great package deal I would book directly with hotel. You can always cancel if a better rate comes up. Check fatwallet.com for great deals. Mirage might be another place to look at. Flamingo and Harrah%26#39;s have the location. Flamingo and Mirage have great pool areas also. Whichever you pick will be a great time.

thank you all for your responses. you%26#39;ve given me some wonderful information and i really appreciate it. i can%26#39;t wait to show my daughter las vegas, woo hoo!!!

I would recommend staying at the Mirage. You can get 30% off normal room rates during April. Also the location is great.

Take her to PH for her 21st it is a fun trendy casino. I just got back from there. Try expedia they had good sales resently

    Quick TR 1-18-2-24

Me and my fiance at the time headed out on 2-14 we got the Planet hollywood early but we goto into the room without a prob. Hollywood hip. Room was nice just what we expected. We were both kinda jet lagged and tired we wanted to get married the same day bit just wasnt happing. We went out a little I played a little poker it didnt work out to well the first day. We were actually in bed by 10. lol

2nd day we went got out marriage license checked out freemont st a little.then headed back to the strip hung out at o%26#39;sheas (which is were we actually stemt alot of time). We enjoyed the cheap beers and choll enviroment. hung out Drank and plaed a little Video black jack and holden bonus.

3rd day we decided that we should go to the bank and take out money so we didnt get stuck with daily limits that took a couple of hrs on public transportation. then went back to the strip gambled a little more went up and down.

4th day got married at a little chapel (it had to be one of the funniest ceremonies) it was me my wife and 2 friends one of which I havent seen in yrs and was juts out there for another friends bachlor party.

It was fun though we even had the minister laughing.

After the ceremony we went back to our hotel then meet back up with out friends for drink fest. later that night I got into some serious poker over at Cesears 1-2NLHE the wife didnt mind she was playing slots and video black jack. she gfot tired and headed back to the hotel I hung out there and cleaded up.

Not I will just add a few morthing to not drag this out to much Mirage Buffet good. PH Buffett Good but breakfast was better Our last night there we decided to go out for a good steat dinner everyone suggested the Steak house at Circus Circus (yes I was surprised as well) But we went for it and I must say it was the best steak I have every had I was highly recomend it to anyone looking for great steak in LV. After that we headed down to freemont for the ccanopy show that was the only thing my Wife liked She wont be heading out there again anytime soon. I felt kinda bad that she didnt really like it. I owe ehr a trip of her choice next time,

But since she is the coolest woman she doesnt have a prob with me going alone with friends.

Again sorry for the terrible english at work rushing.

    Quick TR 1-18-2-24

congratulations on your marraige...glad you liked the Steakhouse at CC. We had a great meal there!

  • Which city has the best factory outlets?

    Hi,

We are currently planning a trip to the US in April at Easter. We are visiting LA, Las Vegas, NYC and Miami.

I have heard that there are Factory Outlets in these cities. We only have between 2-3 days in each city so was hoping that someone might be able to tell me of all these cities, which one is best to spend a day at the outlets? Ie. which one has the biggest variety and bargains of these cities? (and the least percentage of tax)

Last yr we spent a long weekend in Hawaii and I discovered the shop Dress for Less and we went crazy for at least 7 hrs! Even had to buy a bag to fit all our stuff in! Are there any shops like this one in the US?

    Thanks!

Which city has the best factory outlets?

Many areas have outlet malls. There are two main companies that have them all over. Check with the local boards of the other cities or you can check under Premium Outlets or Mills Outlets to find the locations and what stores they have.

There are two in Vegas where many people find good buys, especially if they are from out of town. I think for many from the US, the deals don%26#39;t make it quite worth the trek if we have an outlet near us.

Which city has the best factory outlets?

As for other discount stores, you%26#39;ll find Ross Dress for Less and Kohls in las vegas. My wife is a bargain shopper and she often goes to Macy%26#39;s.

If you go to any Macys in the U.S make sure you go to the customer services desk with your passport.

The will give you a discount card for 11% (I think )off all purchases except cosmetics.

If you are going to nyc go to centry21 downtown its a great store for discounted higher end merchandise. Something like tj maxx but better imho. Be aware the store gets really crowded go early if possible.

    Have a great trip

I%26#39;m going to Vegas in April too, there are 2 Outlets (Premium and Las Vegas Center). Near Miami there is the Sawgrass Mills, also very good.

In NYC I woudn%26#39;t recommend Century 21. Too crowded, bad service, didn%26#39;t find it so good...But Woodbury is great!! Good luck!!

    Lu

    Orlando hands down!!

    ';We are visiting LA, Las Vegas, NYC and Miami. ';

    ';Orlando hands down!!';

    That%26#39;s a bit of a commute? :)

hi syd woodbury common premium oulets is about one hour out of nyc,we were there a couple of years ago.

can find just about every shop under the sun there.

i found many bargains at the levi store, rockport store etc etc.there are regular coaches leaving from the port authority nyc for about 10 dollrs.

just google woodbury common and you can see for yourself.

    cheers steve

Nowadays, the so called ';outlet'; centers do not usually have the best bargins. They are just retail stores in disguise.

The best clothing deals are usually at discount stores like Ross, Marshall%26#39;s, or TJ Maxx. Some department stores like Macy%26#39;s have sales and clearance items weekly but it%26#39;s a hit and miss.

    Here are some other sites you might check out, take what they say with a grain of salt but also call before you go to any of the stores they mention to make sure they are still in business, the global recession is closing businesses;

    http://www.moredeals.tv/

    http://alanbestbuys.com/index.html

I have heard Sawgrass Mills just North of Miami is really really big. We didn%26#39;t go when we were there though. We went to Dolphin Mall and Dadeland in Miami. Dadeland has a huge Macy%26#39;s, and you can get there on the train. There are also a few branches of Ross and Marshall%26#39;s (similar) in Miami - we used the ones downtown, but there%26#39;s also one or both of these up at Midtown, and probably elsewhere. I know there%26#39;s a Ross across from Dadeland too, but I didn%26#39;t think that branch was that good.

As for Vegas, there%26#39;s the two outlet malls, south strip and near downtown. Both are good, and we usually go to both.

    70's music

I have read on this forum that polyesters closed down, is there another place that plays 70%26#39;s music? Thanks

    70's music

Not sure what you mean by 70%26#39;s music, but we loved the bands at La Scena lounge at Venetion. Motown, Disco, etc. Music starts in the afternoon!

    70's music

Look for Wonderboogie, they usually play at Carnaval Court at Harrahs. The website is wonderboogievegas.com

Planet Hollywood V Variety Show...Any good??

We are headsing back to Vegas in late June with the kiddos in tow and want to know what you all think about the Variety Show? The kids are 4, 7, and 16. We have a nanny going as well, so also want to know about any deals on the price. I thought you could get free tickets (?) but is that only if you stay at the Planet Hollywood?? We are staying at the MGM because of the location and the pool, the girls love the lazy river. Any suggestions or opinions are welcome as well as any other shows you might know of!!! We do the Excalibur and/or New York game rooms. Thank you!

Planet Hollywood V Variety Show...Any good??

My suggestion is dont bring kids to Vegas

Planet Hollywood V Variety Show...Any good??

If you can get free tickets it%26#39;s ok. We were not impressed. We thought free was about the right price. Don%26#39;t pay full price. We sat through a time share to get our tickets. Also got buffet free, That was worth it.

    End our Debate!!! Re: Flamingo

My husband claims the Flamingo is not on the strip - but I believe it is.

I even found a map that shows it is on the strip, but he still believes it is about a block off.

    Who is right?

    Thanks! :-)

    End our Debate!!! Re: Flamingo

The Flamingo closed down and is no longer in Vegas.

    End our Debate!!! Re: Flamingo

    Lol-Lowrance

Heidi you win, tell him he has to buy you the first Margarita when you arrive :)

I knew it. He should really be use to this by now.

    ;-)

The Flamingo Hotel is on the strip.

However, there is a Flamingo Timeshare that is behind the hotel and not on the strip. Maybe he is thinking of this.

    ';I even found a map that shows it is on the strip, but he still believes it is about a block off.';

He thought your map was a fake? Sounds like this is simple matter-of-fact, and should be simple enough to prove. Look at the satellite view on Google Maps and you can zoom right in and confirm.

Does your husband often continue to insist he%26#39;s right even after you provide proof to the contrary?

Lowrance the Flamingo has NOT closed down!

It%26#39;s right on the strip, with Margaritaville attached!

Wow! You learn something new everyday!! Next, you%26#39;ll tell me Low hates LIIT!!!

    Mail bite your tongue!

Stars, I just didn%26#39;t want Heidi and her hubby to fight anymore!

Better yet, GO TO VEGAS and settle the dispute!

If he doesn%26#39;t believe you or the map, why would he believe any of us?

Maybe cause we are the ';voices of truth';???
