restaurant suggestion for chef mom's b-day

Hi everyone-

My brother and I are taking my mother on a trip to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and Sedona for a ';big'; birthday this May. We%26#39;re in Vegas for just one night and seeing a show and we woudl also like to take her out to a nice dinner. She is a (gourmet) chef, but really just likes all good food...

our problem is my budget. i wanted to take her to Bouchon, but i think it might bust my $250 budget? (assuming each get appetizers, dinners, maybe 1 dessert and 2 glasses of wine each). Any suggestions? fine dining or otherwise? I would like either french or new american (not italian, steakhouse, mexican or asian).

Alize at the Palms. Food is excellent, beautiful views of the strip and Vegas and wonderful service. Alex at Wynn might also work well or Picasso at Bellagio. There is also Joel Robuchon at MGM.

Bouchon is one of the most ';affordable'; of the fine dining options in Vegas, especially French. If you can%26#39;t get what you want in your budget there, you will have difficulty anywhere else (its the glasses of wine which will make it hard to fit the budget- perhaps you could get a reasonably priced bottle, I have found some for $40-$50 at a couple of nice restaurants)unless you opt to do a price fix menu special. Daniel Boulud has a 3 course menu special if you eat early in the evening. Course ptions are limited but the restaurants is really nice and has a great view of the Lake of Dreams.

I agree that Bouchon is one of the more affordable options that could be considered fine dining.

Is that $250 per person or total? If it%26#39;s $80 pp, you are probably going to increase your budget or lower your expectations.

I strongly agree with Alize, but you would have to increase the budget a little. And you can forget places like Alex, Picasso or Robechon.

BTW: I%26#39;m guessing you couldn%26#39;t find a nice French restaurant in NYC for that budget either.

yes. you%26#39;re probably right. when we go to the really high end places like Daniel, Aureole, we usually spend that much at a lunch...not dinner. I could probably up my budget a bit.

Thanks very much for these suggestions.

If you can up your budget- Alize would be great. The food, service, view and ambience are all excellent.

I don%26#39;t know how accurate this is but it will give you some idea of the prices:

gasp! i just checked the menu at alize. definiltey out of my price range....even if i up the budget!

It%26#39;s too bad you said not Italian or Asian...BUT...they have American, too! My suggestion would be Sensi in Bellagio, they have a very eclectic menu, but the best part is the HUGE view of the open kitchen. I think that would be fun for a ';chef mom'; to see how another kitchen works (maybe not, LOL, maybe she wants to get away from work??)...but check out the menu, it really covers a wide variety of different things, is not THAT expensive, and is a very nice atmosphere.
