Is the golden nugget pool heated?

My trip has changed from this weekend to Mar 19-24. All my friends are staying at the vegas club and that is where I currently have my reservations, but am curious about the pool at the nugget if its heated or not. If it looks like the forecast could be warm those days, I might change.

I have stayed at both places many times, but have not stayed at the nugget since they installed the new pool.

Is the golden nugget pool heated?

Hi,

According to their website, the pool is heated and open year round...weather permitting.

Is the golden nugget pool heated?

Thanks!

why don%26#39;t you check the website - you%26#39;re obviously on the internet - easy to do

I%26#39;m going to be nice and just say I can only access certain websites at work. TA is one, GN is not.

Website was checked...read above post!!

Boy, someones meaner than a cat crapping tacks today huh Bridgey?

You are going to love the pool. I happen to love that its saltwater and not chlorinated. Also the fact that the hotel surrounds the pool, lends itself to making the area around the pool a little warmer IMO- Dive bar is great, and its cool that they have poolside blackjack tables but beware of the crappy 6:5 payout. Have a fantastic time!! We%26#39;ll be there in June.

S;-)

I am suprised the pool is heated... I always found it cold and much prefer just soaking in the hottub.

ID for Minor to travel

We are traveling with a 16 year old who will not have a photo id at the time we travel. A parent will be present. What form of id is valid?

ID for Minor to travel

do not rely on info posted here for accuracy - go to the expert on a subject so imporatnt - so much misinformation is posted here it%26#39;s a joke.

www.tsa.gov

ID for Minor to travel

No ID is necessary for anyone under 18.

From Continental%26#39;s website:

Children under the age of 18 traveling with an adult are not required to show ID at time of check-in

According to tsa website effective 6/2008 all adult passengers(18 and older) need ID.

FYI BJ Players at El Cortez and Mirage

I wanted to pass along what I learned from floor supervisors about comp rates from my trip last week.

El Cortez: $25 bettor will accrue $4 an hour in comps. They will rate $5 bettors at 80 cents an hour. This is actually very tight IMHO(still better than Harrah%26#39;s though). At least a low roller will get something.

Mirage: Floor supervisor suggested I check with Players Club for the ';company line'; on comp rates, but he said it is about $11 and hour for a $25 bettor (this has been my experience in the past as well). I%26#39;ve always found MGMMirage places to be very generous with free food if you%26#39;re betting green chips (and not staying there) and getting a buffet at Bellagio was an easy comp after a couple of hours at $25 a hand.

Thanks.

Thanks Darren. Now if only the people who should read this do. No bets there though.

  • Treasure Island

Will be going to Vegas in a few weeks with a bunch of friends and we%26#39;ve booked a few rooms at Treasure Island. Just wondering what the opinions of this place is. We plan on hitting up Tryst and Tao nightclubs and it looks like they aren%26#39;t too far from TI.

    Treasure Island

You will be pleased w/ TI. The pool is nothing special, but pool weather is still a crapshoot for the next month or two. Great location, love the remodeling...neutral colors, really classed the place up (no more pirate theme...) Definitely a more youthful hip vibe these days. Their nightclub, Christian Audigier has really taken off, check at the concierge for free passes.

Be sure to try Isla for great MX food at great prices, nice vibe. Best mojito I have ever had.

    Have fun!

    Treasure Island

    Hi townguy,

I have been staying at TI for a number of years now and I love it.

The rooms are all redone and have great beds. The hotel itself is somewhat smaller than most but I like that. The people that work there are fantastic and if you can get a host like I have, you will be treated like royalty. You will really like TI. Also, the location is terrific.

I hope I have helped you. The coffee shop is just average. The deli which is sort of in the back of the casino is great, the buffet is just OK.

They have a steak house which is really quite good and Kahunnaville is a blast for young people.Big drinks bartenders having a blast with everyone.

    Have a great time there.

    7777 Johnny

We stayed there once, and it was very nice. We had a splendid view. It%26#39;s a very convenient location. You can get to Mirage on a little train. You can see Mystere while you are there. Have fun!

    Vegas on the cheap?

A friend and I are planning a trip to Vegas Monday, March 9 through Wednesday, March 11.

We%26#39;ve been been able to keep the costs WAY down. Our plane tickets were purchased through Southwest%26#39;s 50% off promotion and I cashed in my credit card points to cover the hotel accommodations. So far we%26#39;re looking at 3 days/2 nights for $400 total out of pocket.

Neither of us are adverse to spending money, but why not skimp on some things if we can? We%26#39;ll be walking or monorail instead of cabs for sure. Any other suggestions fellow TA%26#39;ers?

Neither of us have any players club cards. Any tips on free play?

I heard about the free Wynn buffet idea - anyone know if that still works? Any other similar ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

    Vegas on the cheap?

We just returned tonight from Vegas and some tips I would suggest would be to buy a 3 day bus pass- for the Deuce Bus- they run all the way down the strip stopping along the way..I think a 3 day pass was around $13 or $14, but well worth it!! We took the monorail once while we were there, but by the time we walked all the way through the hotel to catch it , we could have walked down the strip! Another great deal is Ellis Island for the Steak special..$6.99 for a salad, steak, baked potato and green beans, and a free beer or rootbeer!! It%26#39;s a 2 block walk from Bally%26#39;s...enjoy...I%26#39;m sure you will get lots of responses from all the Vegas veterans!!

    Vegas on the cheap?

Hi Mulletfluf, aside from surfing the net (and you can find some great info by doing this), here is a link to start with:

    http://cheapovegas.com/index.php

Make sure you sign up for all players cards!

    Good Luck!!

    VegasSue

Sign up online for Venetian/Palazzo%26#39;s Club Grazie and you get $15 of free slot credit.

    https:/…vpc_becoming.cfm

Sign up for any players card you can. There%26#39;s often gifts for doing so and even if there isn%26#39;t it keeps you on the hotels%26#39; radar for future offers. Wynn%26#39;s Red Card isn%26#39;t as generous as the days of the ';free'; buffet deal but there is invariably some sort of offer for new members.

I%26#39;m also not a huge fan of monorail due to the distances to the stations especially if you%26#39;re on the west side of the Strip. The three day pass for the Deuce ($15) is a better bet for you guys.

keep checking here for advice and tips, as well as the other vegas sites. if you join lasvegasadvisor.com on line, $37, you will get access to their site and all of those lovely money saving coupons. all the promotional magazines, like those in your room have coupons in them, worth a look to see if what you want to eat or do or see is in there. if you have an AARP or AAA card or military ID, ask if there is a discount, at the worst, you hear no, at the best, you save $. have fun

If you are looking to see a show, I would recommend the Comedy Stop at the Tropicana. In the free coupon books usually found in rooms there is usually a 2for1 coupon or a $5 off coupon for tickets to it. Included in the price of admission is one drink.

I would also recommend seeing the free lounge acts that perform in many casinos in the evening. The drinks can be pricey though (you could drink one slowly while listening to the free music). Usually there is a band playing at the Tropicana. I like to go to the Celebration Lounge in the Tropicana after I go to the Comedy Stop.

I would forget the monorail. It only makes sense if you are going to the Sahara, convention center or the Hilton from MGM or Bally%26#39;s. If you are in a centrally located hotel you can walk to most casinos on the south strip and north stip.

Get a player%26#39;s card from every hotel (some are grouped- MGM/Mirage group, HET group, etc.) you can. The promos change but I did get $15 free play (without signing up on the internet ) at the Palazzo and $10 free play from the Bellagio and the Wynn(where I won $160 and two buffet vouchers). They seemed to have changed their buffet promo since then

Walk to Ellis Island where they do have fantastic value meals- not just the steak special.

Big Elvis puts on a great free show in the afternoons during the week. It is really fun and Bill%26#39;s also has 99 cent margaritas and (from what I hear) cheap beer.

    http://www.bigelvis.biz/

Downtown has lower gambling limits and some good cheaper food choices. Plus- the canopy show.

There are many free attractions- Bellagio conservatory and fountain, Mirage volcano, Auto Exhibit at the Imperial Palace, etc. In fact- just popping in and out of the various casinos will take a chunk of your time if you haven%26#39;t been to Vegas before.

If you are not particular about what show to see- check the tix4tonight kiosks. Tickets are for that night only.

    http://www.tix4tonight.com/.

    http://www.cheapovegas.com/index.php

    http://www.bigempire.com/vegas/cheapeats.html

Look at the left columns on both websights ofr inexpensive options that might appeal to you.

If you sign up at Ellis Island for a slot club, they give you 5000 points (worth $5), but it%26#39;s not available until the next day. You can apply on day one, then go back on day 2 to get the $5 off your eats. Your steak dinner then costs 1.99.

Hooters has 25 cent wings from midnight to 6am.

For Wynn, you sign up for a card, are given $10 free play, after you earn a certain amount of points (which must be small, because my husband way able to earn them!), you spin the wheel to win additional free play or buffet for 2. Of course, we won the buffet, and this was immediately after we ate dinner.

I just did the same thing. After I purchased my 50% off tickets with Southwest, it became a contest to see how much I could save.

When I would go to a hotel to sign up for their players club I would also ask for a coupon book. Most of the hotels have them. The coupon books have some good deals; free drinks, 2 for 1 meals and drinks, and free slot play. I was able to use 2 for 1 coupons at every meal and saved a ton of money.

Most of the restaurants have food specials. All the way from coffee shop specials to the really nice restaurants with their pre fixe meals.

Mulletfluf, I am going with my friend on the same exact dates and we too are looking for some decent bargains. Sorry I don%26#39;t have any recommendations for you, but I know I will be watching your post for all who give you some advice. These guy are awesome in giving info.

Bytheway, I got a good deal on my flight(continental)and I used my american airline miles to partially pay for our Planet Hollywood room.

    Hip, fun restaurant

Any reccommendations for a hip, fun restaurant, any cuisine on the strip. Not too expensive(no more than $50 per couple just for food).

    Hip, fun restaurant

    Border Grill @ Mandalay Bay.

    Good Mexican food.

    Hip, fun restaurant

We love Rum Jungle @ Mandalay Bay good food fun atmosphere...and if you have extra money for drinks their signature cocktails are awsome!

    www.mandalaybay.com/dining/rumjungle.aspx

We haven%26#39;t been yet but N9ne Steakhouse @ Palms would probably fit what you%26#39;re looking for. Good food and they get a fair amount of celebs. It may push the limits of your budget though. Go to the Palms websiteand you should be able to see their menu.

I would also say N9NE at the Palms. Great food- for $25 you can get a burger or for 50 a steak. always celebs there, and the place is always packed. make reservations a couple weeks out.

i would also say Mix at MB. It%26#39;s pretty good, and has a great view.

but again, first choice each trip is the N9NE

    Margaritaville.

    well, i always recommend Border Grill at Mandalay as a general rule of deliciousness... but i wouldn%26#39;t think it as overly ';hip';

i%26#39;d suggest Fix at the Bellagio. the food is delicious and it%26#39;s pretty funky. or Stack at the Mirage. both have a similar vibe and cuisine (and same owners too).

otherwise Mix at Mandalay Bay is another good suggestion. or even RumJungle also in MB.

if you%26#39;re looking for hip, then Margaritaville is not what you%26#39;re looking for. it%26#39;s a beloved restaurant by many on this forum, but it%26#39;s really a chain restaurant with average food that%26#39;s pretty dated in its style. it%26#39;s not even close to cutting edge or current in presentation and flavour profiles. it would be a good place to grab lunch or nachos or something... but not a dinner destination based on what you%26#39;re looking for.

    Hi Sandstring...I remember your reports...

Are you going back to Vegas anytime soon?

    Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay

    Pink Taco @ Hard Rock

Dos Caminos at the Palazzo. We ate there last June, and went back in February for dinner. Excellent food, reasonable prices. Good appetizers and desert fondue for sharing. Very hip and stylish restaurant that is moderately priced.

    BBQ Buffet in Vegas?

I have noticed that a couple casinos have a BBQ buffet on Tuesdays, but I haven%26#39;t seen any during the weekend. Does anyone know if there is any BBQ buffets on the weekends? I will be in Vegas on March 12-15 and would like to go to a BBQ buffet if possible.

    BBQ Buffet in Vegas?

Take this for what it is worth. Don%26#39;t eat BBQ in Vegas, especially a BBQ buffet.

    BBQ Buffet in Vegas?

    AMEN to that.

Roasted meat with BBQ sauce , made in New York City, AINT BBQ.

NOBODY in Vegas makes authentic BBQ. They all have a GIMMICK.

    Same goes for KOBE BEEF.

There aint NO KOBE BEEF in Vegas.

There aint NO AUTHENTIC CHINESE on the strip.

    Off strip--- Yes.

So, I guess that if I go into a chinese restaurant on the strip, looking for a kobe meatball slathered in bbq sauce, I%26#39;m out of luck??? Lol

    Cash Money

So, I know that the answers are going to vary greatly to this question, but I am going to ask it anyways! lol

Ok, so how much cash do you take with you down to Vegas? I know that I need $12 for the round trip shuttle to and from the airport, and probably $50 max for gambling. What else do i need cash for?

The sad thing is, this is my third trip to Vegas in 2 years, and I fot the life of me have no idea how much i took down before.

    Thanks everyone!

    Cash Money

I%26#39;d set a limit on the cash you want to spend for gambling per day, and then add $100.00 for stuff you haven%26#39;t thought about. After that, using a debit card or credit card should cover the rest.

    Cash Money

We brought $400 per day - $100 each for us to gamble per day, and $200 for food and other things. We were very fortunate, we came home with the same amount we left with - our whole trip was paid for (thanks BJ %26amp; 3-card poker!) I know this is unusual.

It%26#39;s so personal - we sought out bargains for some things, splurged on others.

How many days are you going for? Are you traveling alone? Where are you staying? I would jack that shuttle cost from $12 to $14. You might want to include a little bit for food, drinks, entertainment.

Sorry, guess I should have been more specific. We are going down from March 2-7 and staying at TI. There Will be 4 of us, not planning on gambling everyday, maybe once every 2 days if that.

Im going in a little over 3 weeks and plan to only carry $400 in cold hard cash for the 4 days i%26#39;ll be there, mostly for food and transport. Very little for gaming. My Visa DC will do the rest. Cant wait!

Depends on how strict your budget is, and how good you are at sticking to it.

You need cash for gambling (they don%26#39;t take credit cards), taxis, shuttles, buses, little snacks/drinks (e.g. Starbucks) and tips. Most other things (main meals, shopping, shows) you can put on a credit card, unless (as I say above) you need a little extra help in the money management department, then you should bring your entire trip budget in cash and lock your credit card in the room safe.

Gambling money is up to you to set. The other stuff depends on how much traveling you are going to do via taxi, etc... You%26#39;re there for 5 days, I%26#39;d bring maybe $150 in cash just to be safe, and charge the rest.

Sorry; meant $150 plus gambling money.

Four people should not take the shuttle to TI. It will be cheaper to just take a cab, not to mention more comfortable and convenient.

Thanks for the tip. I looked it up and looks like average taxi fare from airport to TI is about $20 (provided we dont take the tunnel, whatever that means)

Asking on this forum how much money to bring is common. The answers as you mentioned will be all over the map.

When I go there with a group of guys I figure $250 a day for everything. I do not go to shows or do anything other than drink, eat, drink and gamble when I am there with friends. When I go with my wife I figure about $400 a day for both of us. Will not gamble or drink as much but we will go to a few shows over the course of a week and our meals will be more $$$. HAVE FUN.

any where nice to eat downtown!

hey all can anyone name any nice places to eat down town?thanks

any where nice to eat downtown!

Tony Roma%26#39;s at the Fremont hotel. Reasonably priced compared to most places in Vegas. You gotta try the ribs......out of this world!!!!!

any where nice to eat downtown!

Tony Roma%26#39;s is nice, but since its part of a chain, most people can eat at one in many of cities in U.S. For a nice meal at a non chain place in DT, do try Hugo%26#39;s Cellar at 4 Queens. Good food, service and one price takes care most of your meal.

Two other suggestions are Flame at ElCortez and Binions Steak House.

Also there is a steak house at the Californina. I forget the name. Hopefully it is still there. Gret food and nice atmosphere.

    Hi

We like Triple 7 brewery in the Main St Station, good food and beer. We also had nice food in the cafe in the Golden Nugget and Binions. If you wanted a buffet to try downtown the one at the Fremont is alright.

    Clive

We really liked Hugo%26#39;s Cellar, good food %26amp; service.

Salad is served tableside with all the ingrdients that you choose mixed for you.

Also it%26#39;s included in the price of your meal, not everything ala carte. Also you get a comp. dessert at the end of your meal; choc. covered fruit. Also all ladies receive a red rose!

I second the Flame at El Cortez.

I ate at the Golden Nugget years ago. It was one of the best buffets. Such nice fresh veggies and delicious food! Very enjoyable.

Hugo%26#39;s Cellar is very good. The salad cart and chocolate covered fruits are included in the meal.

    http://www.hugoscellar.com/

    Triple George.

If you like buffet%26#39;s---The paradise buffet at Fremont is very good, and they have seafood night on Tuesdays if I remember.

    Kids Things

Any suggestions for 5 days in Vegas from March 16 for a grand father accompanied by his 11 year old grand daughter?

    Kids Things

    Try the sticky.

    Kids Things

At the top of page 1 of this forum is a thread that lists 125 things to do in Vegas for families, excellent suggestions there.

    limo transfers

the limo service from the airport to the strip states that the 1hour clock starts the minute your plane lands! is it usually possible to get from the plane to the strip in 1 hour? i have been told it can get extremely busy queing at imagration and collecting baggage.

    limo transfers

Plane to hotel in 1 hour isn%26#39;t going to happen if you have to clear immigration and you%26#39;re not a US citizen or resident. I would call the limo company. Chances are they deal with this situation often and take the likely delays into account when picking up those in this situation.

    limo transfers

Thanks, presisential limo service say its $55 dollars an hour which i think is very good but the clocks start the minute you land so its more like $110 for the airport transfer wich is pritty steep, do you know if you can arrange a limo when you get to the airport?

You will only clear immigration at LV if you fly direct. If it%26#39;s an indirect flight then you clear at your first point of entry and only need to pick up your luggage at LV.

We just told Presidential that we wanted collected from the airport at 6.15. This was 30 mins after landing on an indirect flight.

Our driver was there at 6.15. He may have been there earlier, I don%26#39;t know. He dropped us at the hotel at 7pm after driving up the strip, stopping at a liquor store and at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.

    thanks for that info,

think we will do that then, our flight is in direct but didnt think immagration would be at chicago because our flight transfer is only 1 hour. hopefully are flight is on time now. i know they keep check on landing time so maybe il tell them to turn up 30 mins after the time they see our flight has landed.

Are the drinks included in the price? what tips do the limo drivers expect?

Presidential includes free Champagne and a long stem rose for the lady with each limo, so yes drinks are included. Well, a bubbly anyways.Tip:I would say $20 will do.

You must clear immigration at your first port of entry into the US. One hour at Chicago is an extremely tight connection and I%26#39;d say that you%26#39;d need to be lucky to make it. The airline will put you on the next flight to Vegas if you don%26#39;t.

If you book Presidential I would put the number in your cell phone so you could call them from Chicago to let them know should you be on a later flight from the one they%26#39;re expecting you to arrive on.

Hi we used Presidential, we had a problem with a group on our plane, we had to wait for them to be off loaded by port authorities, and then we had to wait a bit because my bag didnt appear (it had been taken off carousel and put on floor...check this) our driver Ryan was waiting our flight was 13:15 and we didnt get through till 14:15 but he still did a tour of strip and didnt rush us (we tipped him!! ) I think Presidential Limos are excellent and we did online package with Champagne and rose which was great (rose still going back here in UK, looking at it right now) .

    walking to Palace Station

How long of a walk is it from Circus Circus to Palace Station??? I read where there is a shuttle you can take from Fashion Show Mall. Anyone do it???

    walking to Palace Station

Too far to walk in my opinion and you%26#39;d be walking through some not very attractive neighborhoods. Palace Station has shuttles to and from the airport and Miracle Mile mall (Planet Hollywood).

    palacestation.com/hotel/amenities/shuttle/

    walking to Palace Station

I would consider it a horrid walk through some unpleasant areas. Try and use google map to see if you would like to spend the day walking. My best guess would be about 1.5 miles to 2 each way but I haved mapped it. You have to go down the strip (North) to Sahara turn left (West) follow it past the I15 (interstate) and PS is just on the other side of the I15 overpass on Sahara.

If you would like to check out Palace Station a cab may be the answer. I hope someone has the answer to your shuttle question. I haven%26#39;t seen the most recent shuttle info for a while.

thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I figured that it looked kind of far. It was my sister who thought that we could walk it.

It%26#39;s no so much the distance or the neighborhood that makes it hard to walk - it%26#39;s the railroad tracks that leave you with no pedestrian route. I%26#39;m normally a big fan of walking, but unless you really want to get adventurous, I%26#39;d take a cab or shuttle.

    HET Diamond Lounges

Only been a Diamond player for a little while,so just curious...where are the HET Diamond lounges? Hours? Food available? Could we count on the lounge for a cheap ';meal'; or not during our April trip? Also what, if any discounts on shows can we get? Thier web site is so vague. Thank you in advance for your input.

    HET Diamond Lounges

The hours during the week are 4-10pm with hot food from 4-6pm. I am not sure of the weekend hours. I haven%26#39;t been in their during the hot food times but it%26#39;s supposed to be finger food and appetizers, not the mini-buffet that some of the Midwestern DL%26#39;s have.

The free and discounted shows can vary month to month so they don%26#39;t keep alot of details on the site. The Diamond free tix in Jan. were Mac King, Nathan Burton, Legends and Vinnie Favorito. The 2-4-1s were Jubilee! and George Wallace.

    HET Diamond Lounges

Thank you for the very helpful info.

On the weekends they open at noon.

You can always bank on chicken wings as one of the finger foods and then one more hot item.

Other than that it is chips, breads, nuts, raw veggies, and desserts.

    Tattoo Shops in Vegas

has anyobdy ever gotten a tatt in Vegas? Where did you go any suggestions?

    Tattoo Shops in Vegas

My brother got one at Vince Neil Ink inside O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s. He was happy with it.

Sin City Tattoo on Charleston is a good place too. There%26#39;s one on Arville also, close to The Orleans. I don%26#39;t know if they%26#39;re connected.

    Tattoo Shops in Vegas

I have never gotten a tattoo in Vegas, but I always see people getting them right next to O%26#39;Sheas. The place has been there awhile so they aren%26#39;t killing anyone.

    Hi,

A mate of mine had one done at a place a couple of minutes walk from the Stratosphere. It was a OK tatt, nothing great. The shop always looked pretty busy when i have walked pass. I looked into getting one done on a previous visit in LV, but as i live in the uk the cost in LV for a tattoo is sooo expensive.

    Good luck.

There%26#39;s one near House of Blues in Mandalay Bay (I think).

    http://livingdeadtattoo.com/

these guys (and gals) rock. I%26#39;ve got one from Bean and the wife has one from Mick.

total we have 3 LV tattoos between us. Have talked with Nickhole at their last establishment and was very impressed as well. Top notch work and great custom tattoos.

Where is the best place to view the fountain show. I am thinking of the Mon Ami Gab (having late night french onion soup on patio) or using 1/2 tickets to top of eiffel tower. Any other suggestions????? Does anyone know what the current schedule is????

Best place to view fountain show--times????

Best place is from a Deluxe Lakeview room in Bellagio itself with the soundtrack on your TV... :-)

Failing that you can%26#39;t beat the sidewalk outside the hotel in my opinion. Way better than Mon Ami Gabi, Eiffel Tower or any of the Bellagio restaurants.

The Bellagio website lists the current pieces of music that are played but there%26#39;s no schedule as such. Other than the Star Spangled Banner at the last show of the day it%26#39;s pretty much random what you%26#39;ll hear.

Best place to view fountain show--times????

Best place in on the sidewalk along LVB. You don%26#39;t only see the show from there, you feel it.

I agree with the other posters. Looking at the fountains from a distance is not the same as watching them from the sidewalk where the fountains are right there in front of you. Be sure to see them at night rather than during the day. They are much more dramatic in the dark.

I%26#39;ve seen it from many different perspectives over the last several years and my favorite is from the Las Vegas Blvd sidewalk in front of the Bellagio. If I wanted to watch them while eating (I%26#39;d rather enjoy my meal separatley and watch the fountains from the sidewalk though) I%26#39;d do it from a Bellagio restaurant and not from a Paris Restaurant (no street or people between you.) I had a great time on the patio at Yellowtail.

I also think that the best place is front center of the fountain on the sidewalk. I think you can appreciate just how high the water goes from that point. I%26#39;ve enjoyed seeing it from the rooms I%26#39;ve had at Paris but I still think the sidewalk is the best place.

Pavement in front of the fountains is best. We ate in Picasso (a Bellagio restaurent) a few years ago and when we finished our meal they let us go out onto thier balconey area to watch the fountains which was pretty spectacular. However, when we went to same restuarent last year they wouldn%26#39;t let us out there and we were really dissapointed.

The Mon Ami is not really a very good place to see the fountains. The shrubs have grown up and are in the way. The sidewalk is good. You can take a tour of the Effeil Tower at Paris and get a great view. One time we have a strip facing room at Flamingo on a high floor. That was a great view; however, you can%26#39;t hear the music so that isn%26#39;t the only way you%26#39;d want to view the fountains. Just a nice side touch. Have fun!

PS--See the conservatory, or flower room, while you are there. I think it%26#39;s as wonderful as the fountains.

I second the doubleheader approach - see the Bellagio Conservatory then the fountain show from the Bellagio side. Just a quick walk out the lobby and across the valet. You%26#39;re close to the fountains and you have Planet Hollywood and Paris in the background, particularly nice at night. Good audio too, to me that%26#39;s a lot of the attraction of this ';attraction';.

Bring your camera, tripod, put the camera on ';night setting'; and you%26#39;re good to go.

Don%26#39;t know that I%26#39;ve ever waited on the LV Boulevard sidewalk for the show so no direct comparison. Seen it many times driving by of course.

Thanks for all your help. I will definately see the fountain show from the sidewalk and after we check out the conservatory from the other side. Never realized being close would make a difference in the experience!!!!!

Has anyone ever been to the Fontana Bar in the Belliago??? I just saw it on the website and it looks like an awesome place.

We were just there a few days ago. The posted schedule for the Bellagio Fountains is as follows:

    Monday-Friday 3pm-7pm every 30 minutes

    Monday-Friday 7pm-12 midnight every 15 minutes

Sat, Sun, holidays 12 noon-7pm every 30 min.

Sat, Sun, holidays 7pm-12 midnight every 15 minutes

We saw the show from three different places--street side, standing near front entrance(as described above) to Bellagio facing out to Paris, and we also timed our trip up the Eiffel tower so we could see the show at night from up there. My wife liked the view from Eiffel the best, I liked being very close on the entrance side because you experience the %26#39;explosions%26#39; of the water, hear the music and get some spray on you. Don%26#39;t do Mon Ami Gabi, you have to look through 2 rows of trees and have lots of street traffic, both cars and pedestrians going by.

Hotwire ';Budget'; cheaper than ';Budget'; site?

Just finished booking a car for my daughter and her husband for next weekend. I checked the Budget site and I got a quote of $174 (total taxes and fees included). Did a search on Hotwire and received a total price of $89 for the same car and days from Budget. Would someone explain why ther%26#39;s such a discrepancy?

Hotwire ';Budget'; cheaper than ';Budget'; site?

Well, Bridgefan would say ';supply'; and ';demand'; and leave it at that. ;)

When I%26#39;ve looked at each rental agency%26#39;s website before using Hotwire or Priceline, I%26#39;ve always found higher prices. But if you are a member of any of their clubs, you can usually get the price to come down. Also, a lot of people book directly with the rental agency for business travel and their company will pay whatever comes up.

Just tell your daughter and her husband to be careful when signing anything at the counter. Budget tried to tack on extra fees upon pickup and drop-off for me last trip. Tell them to ';just say no';.

Hotwire ';Budget'; cheaper than ';Budget'; site?

I dunno. I don%26#39;t think the third party sites prebook cars. Maybe Hotwire is applying the best discount codes somehow.

Thanks for the heads up, mailgirl. I%26#39;ll also make sure they take the invoice that plainly states the total (including taxes and fee0.

Allegiant Rates today through March 18

Starting today, Allegiant Air is offering buy one air/hotel, get an airfare free. Sale ends March 18.

Like other deals, you%26#39;ll need to try out various combinations to see if this is best for you. Sometimes the flight only with a separate hotel offer might be a better deal.

We%26#39;ve used this deal in the past and it worked out well for us. Last September we only booked the hotel for part of the trip (min. 2 night/2 person required), and then used comped rooms for the rest of the trip and had no problem.

Sorry if this is a duplicate post. I did a search and didn%26#39;t see it listed.

Allegiant Rates today through March 18

We got the ad in the morning paper about this and an email.

Seems like after the Fly free promo is over the fares fall... so this is just a gimmick?

Guess I will see what happens this time.

Fares out of Des Moines for our dates in July are stuck at $129... too high, I think.

    Other opinions?

Allegiant Rates today through March 18

How do I book just 2 nights? Every time I do it, it includes all 5 nights.

I am also wondering if the fares will fall after the deal is over.

Maria, I think $129 is a little high too considering you still need to add on luggage, seat selection (if desired), etc. Especially when they%26#39;ve had $89 or $99 from Central Illinois.

Poole - When you get to the page that says Select a Hotel for Your Vacation Package, scroll to the very bottom of the page and right before the New Search button, there is a sentence ';Only need lodging for part of your stay? Click Here.'; Click there and then put in your dates - must be a minimum of 2 nights and then click submit (I kept clicking the New Search button by mistake)

I%26#39;m still playing around with different scenarios. We have 5 out of 6 nights comped at a Harrah%26#39;s property now. For us, I think it%26#39;s still lower to book the B1 flight/hotel, G1 flight free than it is to book just 2 flights. We did this back in September and used comped rooms part of the trip and then the Allegiant package part of the trip. Gave us a chance to try a new hotel (TI) that we probably wouldn%26#39;t have tried otherwise and still worked out costing less than booking just the flight.

If you are near a major airport, this might not be the lowest airfare. We are approx 2 hours from a Chicago airport and 3 from St. Louis. The airport that Allegiant flies out of is only 45 min. from us and we don%26#39;t have to pay to park nor need a hotel.

Siegfried and Roy take final bow

Siegfried and Roy take final bow for charity

    comcast.net/articles/…

Sun Mar 1, 8:15 AM EST

Illusionists Siegfried and Roy — and the Bengal tiger that ended their careers — shared the stage again Saturday night for a haunting final performance.

The brief charity show saw Roy Horn and Siegfried Fischbacher side by side with Montecore, the massive white tiger that brutally mauled Horn during a 2003 performance.

Horn re-emerged Saturday dressed in black robes, his face covered with a skeletal mask. The dark stage was covered in smoke. Horn limped slowly onstage, often steadying himself on Fischbacher%26#39;s shoulder.

The two slowly performed a signature illusion as Fischbacher, dressed in white robes and a mask, stood inside a cage, which was then cloaked in drapes. As Horn removed the curtain seconds later, Fischbacher appeared across stage, a hulking tiger in his place.

As the crowd took to its feet, the men removed their masks. Fischbacher standing between the tiger and Horn. They waved and blew kisses at the audience, but said nothing.

    An announcer left the crowd with this final thought: ';Within all of us there is an illusive melody, which when heard and followed will lead you to the fulfillment of your fondest dreams.';

The performers%26#39; manager, Bernie Yuman, later confirmed the tiger was Montecore.

In October 2003, the tiger sank its teeth into Horn%26#39;s neck, dragging him offstage in front of a horrified audience. The illusionist, now 64, was partially paralyzed, suffering a damaged neck artery and crushed windpipe.

After 13 years and more than 5,000 performance, ';Siegfried %26amp; Roy'; show at The Mirage immediately went dark, ending one of the most successful shows in Las Vegas history.

The Saturday performance at the Bellagio hotel-casino was the highlight of a lavish benefit for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. The center, which will treat brain disorders like those Horn now suffers, is set to open later this year in a building designed by architect Frank Gehry.

    Siegfried and Roy%26#39;s performance will air Friday in a one-hour special on ABC%26#39;s ';20/20.';

    During Horn%26#39;s long rehabilitation, both men remained devoted to their exotic habitat on the Las Vegas Strip. The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage hotel-casino houses lions, tigers and leopards. Fischbacher, 69, has called it Horn%26#39;s ';reason to get up in the morning.';

The pair have said they believe Montecore sensed Horn was having a mini-stroke and was dragging him to safety, rather than attacking him. Animal experts have disputed that theory.

After a two-year review, federal investigators never determined what set off the tiger.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture did find that the ';Siegfried %26amp; Roy'; show failed to protect the audience because it had no barrier separating the exotic animals from the crowd.

The illusionists%26#39; production company, S%26amp;R Productions, received a letter of noncompliance but was not fined.

    Bally's

    Hi

This is my first trip to Vegas. We are going at the end of April and staying at Bally%26#39;s. Any info you can give me on it would be helpful. Nice rooms? Are the restaurants good and a decent price? What is the poker room like and the competition-fish or sharks? What are the table blinds, do they have $1-$2 dollar tables or are they highter? Any info.would be appreciated.

    Bally's

    http://www.allvegaspoker.com/

Virtually all your poker questions should be dealt with here. If not, that site%26#39;s forums should give you quick answers.

    Bally's

We%26#39;ve stayed there. The rooms in the north tower are very nice. They are big and have recently been remodeled. For the most part, it%26#39;s a quiet hotel. The casino is a big rectangle so it%26#39;s easier to find your way around. You don%26#39;t get lost. It%26#39;s pretty small. It%26#39;s connected to Paris by a big hallway. There is a burger place in the hallway that is very good. There is a little deli right by the entrance to the south tower that is good--called Nosh. The cafe is just like most. Great for a big breakfast. The steakhouse there is good with good service. Not great, but plenty good. Julibee is a review there that is worth seeing. I wouldn%26#39;t spend money on the PRICE IS RIGHT show. I didn%26#39;t enjoy it much. Jubilee is like an old Las Vegas show. Topless, but they have on some many jewels, you%26#39;ll hardly notice. I think they have one show at certain times of the week that isn%26#39;t topless. You could check with the box office if you want to know more about it. I%26#39;m not a good poker player. I played in there poker room once and felt about as good as the others at the table. I think my table was a $2.00 limit table. They have all kinds. It%26#39;s not like some poker rooms. It%26#39;s kind of out in the open. Harrah%26#39;s, right down the street, has a great poker room. The people there might know how to play pretty well though. Hope you have a great time.

    Here is our review.

    …tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g45963-d121…

I know it isn%26#39;t the most recent, but I did post pictures if you want to see a room in the North Tower.

We eat at the Sidewalk Cafe each trip. Their prices and food is good. You can view the menu online. Go to www.ballyslv.com, the go to dining and choose a restaurant. We%26#39;ve also ate at Johnny%26#39;s deli on the lower level - it%26#39;s a fast food type place. The Java Coast near the check-in has some grab and go food like cookies, danishes, coffee, bottled tea, etc. The great thing is that it is connected to Paris so if you don%26#39;t find something you like to eat at Bally%26#39;s, Paris is only a few steps away.

if u like Margaritas....there%26#39;s a tequila bar in Ballys off the casino...love it there

Ballys is one of our fav places to stay! South tower has nicer views, but North tower has nicer rooms; all are very large, south is just dated. The Tequilas has happy hour w/ half price margs %26amp; appy specials each afternoon (and at $9/marg, that helps!)

Planet Hollywood %26amp; TI are my fav poker rooms. Harrahs is nice, too, and I%26#39;ve heard MGM has a great one (I just never seem to make it down there) You can find all levels of play at all casinos.

    …tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g45963-d121…

There is our review. We were there three weeks ago and really enjoyed our stay. The location is wonderful and you can get terrific room rates there! We would go back there without a doubt.

What should i expect to pay for 4 nights stay in August and where would you reccommend for 2 adults, nothing to plush (ie Bellagio / Venetian)

Need to a clean hotel with a good position that you would advise for a 64 year old ( But acts younger) man and his 30 year old son.

    Hotel Rates

If you would like us to look up some rates for you, you should give the date you are going in August, or at least if the 4 nights includes the weekend.

For 4 nights all during the week, you can expect some good deals, but if you include the weekend, that will bring the total up a bit.

    Hotel Rates

Is it your first trip to Vegas? Center strip or south strip will be $50-$60 a night during the week. Bally%26#39;s, Harrah%26#39;s, Flamingo will all work for you.

Or MGM, NYNY, even Tropicana south strip.

    Off-strip or downtown $20-$35.

combining promo rates in one reservation?

    Hello fellow travellers!

I am wondering if this is possible....I can get a great rate at the Bellagio on one of their promo codes on a Thurs/Fri night, but the regular rate on the Sat night is cheaper than the rate in the promo. So what I%26#39;m really wanting to know is if I call them up and say I want to use the promo code for two nights, will they allow me to use the non-promo rate on the third night? It would save me about $80.

If anybody else has done this (or knows if it is allowed or not), please let me know! Thank you so much everyone, this forum is a wealth of info!

combining promo rates in one reservation?

This is one of those questions where the only definitive way of knowing what will happen is by calling Bellagio and asking.

true enough! thanks, though. i guess i was just hoping for some positive reinforcement for what may or may not be a good idea from the Bellagio%26#39;s perspective :)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Car Rental Promo Codes

Does anyone have any promo codes or deals for a car rental in April (no week end-5 days) Alamo preferably? Or really anything at this point.

    Car Rental Promo Codes

The rates are very high right now. Some of the best rates are showing up with the airlines rental car options. The other lower rate deals are through Priceline for economy class cars.

Even with promo codes the deals are just not there right now. Keep checking though rates tend to go up and down.

    Car Rental Promo Codes

I received an e-mail last week from Alamo with offers but I deleted it.Uh-Oh! Called them up and they can%26#39;t help me because they are generated through their main company.I was hoping to find codes from someone on TA.Sun. thru Fri a.m. midsize is $161 with taxes.Hoping to do a little better .

We have a car rental from PRICELINE for our 8 day stay (last week of March into April) for $12/day from Hertz.

We are going next weekend, I booked a fantastic deal w/ Alamo the other day: $42 plus taxes for 4 day midsize. The weekend promo code is 7014730. Hope it helps!

    Travel Packages = Cheap flights?

To fly US Airways for two in December is a grand total of $1184 on the dates I selected.

Now if I book it as a vacation and choose to stay at Circus Circus it is $900 for two.

    An almost $300 saving!!

So if one were to do this but stay at a different hotel would not bothering to check in at the hotel you purchased the room for cause any issues? I know the hotel has already gotten your money so they probably don%26#39;t care, but I wouldn%26#39;t want to do this and effect my returning flight or some part of the package.

    Travel Packages = Cheap flights?

I have heard of people having problems with this. The hotel reports to the airline or TA that the person did not arrive, so they cancel the return flight.

We think this is silly, but remember the times we live in. This is the kind of action that attracts attention, and when it involves flights it involves the TSA. Who may even have to inform other security agencies.

So my advice would be that if you choose to do this make sure you check in at CC. You don%26#39;t actually have to stay there if you don%26#39;t want to.

    Travel Packages = Cheap flights?

Have you actually heard of people having issues with this? Or have you heard of someone%26#39;s brother%26#39;s best friend%26#39;s dentist having issues with this?

I don%26#39;t know why the TSA would care that you didn%26#39;t stay in the hotel that you paid for.

I am a real nervous nelly so I think I would be worried the whole trip if I didn%26#39;t check in lol I see that CC has a 8pm check out! But it would still be a pain.

Well, given current economic conditions and that fare sales are reappearing and fares are also fluctuating like crazy, I, personally, think it is way too soon to lock in anything you can%26#39;t cancel now for December, unless it%26#39;s around the holidays, but probably even then.

And, something about those prices doesn%26#39;t seem right. Is that all-inclusive? Is it there when you look again?

There%26#39;s always the possibility that Circus Circus does have some sort of financial deal going with US Airways and might very possibly let them know if you%26#39;re a no show resulting in your return ticket being cancelled. You never know...

All the airline will know is if you took the flight. If you do the outbound part, then they don%26#39;t cancel the inbound one.

There has been talk on her about this very subject before, no one had a problem with doing what you are proposing to do. However, to make sure, call the airline and find out, don%26#39;t rely on 2nd hand info here.

That said, it is way, way too early to be booking for next Dec!

I know its to early! I just can%26#39;t help but look!

Flights from Toronto don%26#39;t really get much cheaper though!

We usually don%26#39;t book our flight too early but did so for our 7/3-7/8 trip. Fares from our airport, Knoxville, are like most other small airports, really high. I found a fare on Delta for $280/PP inclusive of all taxws, fees etc. I DID however purchase the travel insurance for a small fee. That far in advance, anything can happen...actually a day away anything can happen. Travel insurance seems like maybe a waste but if you need it and don%26#39;t have it...well...

    $25.00 for Bed bugs

I know this guy that sells them for $8 each. It%26#39;s quite a scam.

  • Confused about a HET offer

    Good afternoon, just a quick question regarding a offer received from HET. One offer received was a gift (electronics, watches apparel etc) that coincided with our dates to Las Vegas. However, the accomodations are for a standard room, but when I look at the room prices for our HET account every room is comped. I then proceeded to contact flamingo and casino marketing rep stated that the offer is only good for the basic room. My question is if other options are available for comped rooms why wouldn%26#39;t we be able to take advantage of a go room and still receive the flamingo gift? Why wouldn%26#39;t the upgraded rooms be applicable with the offer from marketing? When this question was posed, the response was ';I don%26#39;t know';

    Confused about a HET offer

Because with HET, you can%26#39;t mix and match offers for the same date. If you want the gift, you must book the room on the offer. And they won%26#39;t let you book another room at the same time if you are taking advantage of an offer already.

    Confused about a HET offer

Makes sense I guess, So we will just bypass the free cordless screwdriver and have accomodations in a better hotel room. Dam, now I have to purchase a 15.00 black and decker power tool for the wife

I concur, with you CCA. A comped room is just that a comped room, not an offer. I don%26#39;t understand why a offer is accompanied with a downgrade in accomodations to satisfy the gift

The comped room is an offer. He is getting it comped because of logging in with his HET account. If he didn%26#39;t login with his account number, he would not be getting a comped room would he?

If you contact a host, you might be able to plead your way into both depending on your account history. But I doubt they are going to listen too seriously about someone complaining about something like this, you%26#39;d come off as cheap and not worth their time.....unless of course your account showed you to be worthy of his/her attention.

I find that this is also very silly. Went out for the Superbowl party in February. Also had the offer for the leather coat. I got the coat, but they would not give me a superbowl t-shirt and hat. I booked one night under my name and the Superbowl party with my niece. Just seems silly, if you are out there, give the gift!

cca84, maybe we could all chip in and get your wife the cordless screwdriver. TSA would just take it away at the airport, LOL!

thank you for the replies, however I tend to agree with fl. I am a low diamond card holder, thus rooms are comped to what ever HET property I visit. Therefore why would my room choice be compromised? If I am able to receive a go suite, with or without the ';gift'; this is the level of play that has warranted my accomodations. The gift is a bonus.

YES, mrmarch I would question the marketing representative, and if I look shallow or cheap so be it. There are many other companies that would gladly take my money.

Dammit just got the Menards flyer and the cordless screwdriver is 19.99, sorry honey

We just got back from our trip and the same thing happened to us. The offer was 2 front row tickets to Elton John (and they were front row after all) and 4 nights at the Imperial Palace. Well, I could get any HET hotel comped for the 4 nights if I book it myself, so I called my Host at Caesars Palace and explained it to him. He said the same thing. If I don%26#39;t stay at IP, the deal is off. So I gave my wife the choice of Elton John or nothing. She took it (loves him), and actually we enjoyed the IP so it worked out good. But it seems that if the offer is given, there is a reason for it and they stick to it, according to my host. I was happy the tickets were there when we got there. That was the thing I was worried about the most.

By the way the tickets were worth $600 plus for the pair so it wasn%26#39;t too much of a decision!

    Bill Engvall 2/29

Just recieved an invite for Bill Engvall 2/29 from TI! He is doing 2 shows that day. Anyone else get the invite?

    Bill Engvall 2/29

yes I got an invite and have no idea who da guy is, nor do I know where in the TI he would be doing a show. I thought the Mystere theatre was the only place in the TI.

    Bill Engvall 2/29

Great show. And a great adversion from the people that think a Cirque show is the only thing at TI. Maybe, just maybe they are trying to get a more normal crowd into the place that will gamble instead of tourists who ';HAVE'; to see a cirque show.

Bill is very funny. Part of the ';Blue Collar Comedy'; group with Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White and Larry the Cableguy. Saw him in Seattle...took a little while to ';get going'; but then was a funy show.

    Rob i Tacoma

Does anybody know if the TI has another room or theatre other than where Mystere is? I have stayed there at least 6 times and do not know of any.

I do think the TI could use a 2nd showroom with varying entertainment. I would think 80% of vegas regulars have seen Mystere.

I just saw Bill Engvall on the 27th and LOVED IT! I love him and all the other guys from the Blue Collar Comedy. The theater is in the TI and is a smaller, intimate theater. Our seats were great, just a few rows up from the stage and for a great price!

Luxor is TA's ';most reviewed'; hotel!

This was the answer in a TA trivia contest that was held for Destination Experts. I can%26#39;t recall the exact figure, but it has over 3000 reviews. I was not surprised that it turned out to be a Las Vegas property, but surprised it was that particular one.

Not really significant info I know, just thought others would find it interesting...

Luxor is TA's ';most reviewed'; hotel!

Part of the reason is of the so called Mega Resorts on the strips Luxor offer some of the best promotional deals on the internet and print.

From what I have observed it also had one of the most polarizing repuatations.

Include me among them, but I have read more negative reviews of this hotel than any other on the strip.

Luxor is TA's ';most reviewed'; hotel!

A fascinating insight into the secret treats that are exclusively available to DEs.

I will not reveal our secret handshake, knock and motto , even if tortured! We members if Order of the Owl have to take a pledge!

I%26#39;ve stayed many places in LV but never made it to the Luxor. From the reviews, sounds like if you do stay there that the tower rooms are better than the pyramid.

Last time I went in there was last July. I think it was DarrenfromIndy that had some posts about them having a decent BJ game at a few of their tables. Maybe we just went at the wrong time but went into the casino late morning on either a Sat or Sun. - it was a ghost town with very slim pickens on BJ.

    LL

Tower Rooms is the way to go if you%26#39;re going to Stay at Luxor. Iv%26#39;e noticed for a while now over say hmm last year or so that promos from them do a markup for the Tower Rooms. Last time i stayed was Feb last year and Tower rooms were standard with the promos I received through email/snail mail..not such the case anymore at least from the offers iv%26#39;e gotten. Try the $20.00 trick when checking in to see you get upgraded to a tower room. East Tower.

Since luxor starting expanding into the Club Culture and adding several longues it has taken away from gaming space from the Casino Floor. Slots seem far less then they used to and I think table gaming isnt as much either.

I think there are a few reasons for this.

First of course would be that the hotel has been around a while, although I don%26#39;t know how many years the reviews go back.

Most importantly, Luxor is a hotel used by many 1st time visitors to Las Vegas. And these first-time visitors are more likely to post a review.

Luxor also is thought of as a WOW hotel due to it%26#39;s theme. So it creates expectations which are either met or not for each individual.

And then there is the simple fact that since MGM-Mirage took over the hotel the number of disappointed guests has greatly increased. And nothing causes more people to post a review than a bad experiance.

People who have had a good stay at this hotel need to post more. Most of the bad reviews of this great hotel is about stains on carpets or walls or some piece of small ripped furniture. I think these people who complain about those things doesn%26#39;t state the fact or understand how old this hotel is. In my opinion I love staying in the spa suites in the pyrimad. COME ON PEOPLE WITH GOOD REVIEWS/Experiences On this hotel give them the good credit they deserve !

They have so many good promotion rates. I know a lot of younger people who stay there for the good deal, and because its their first time in Vegas!

    Crazy Horse

To those who have seen this show - how did you like it and would you recommend it? Thanks for your input

    Crazy Horse

I saw it 3 years ago when it was called La Femme. My husband and I liked it a lot (okay my husband Loved it.) I would recommend it, it was fun and sexy.

    Crazy Horse

    Hi ford2006,

I just got back from staying at the MGM where the Crazy Horse is located. I did not see it personally, but I would check out the reviews for it on this website. My boyfriend and I were interested in seeing it as it is a show suitable for both sexes and not just men. We decided not to see it due to the reviews regarding the seating. Apparently the seats are booths, so you are sitting quite closely to everyone else, so that just made a lot of people feel uncomfortable.

From my memory, people did like the show and that people of all ages go to see it, as well as women.

    Mirage Rates Going Up

I dont understand why the Mirage rates on the Volcano offer are going up when it seems everyone elses rate is coming down. I booked two rooms at certain rate for April. I now need another room and the rate using the same volcano30 code is 72 bucks more! Mirage refuses to give me another room at the rate I paid for the two I already have booked. I then told her ok, we will just have to put more people in the rooms we have now. She said ok. I was shocked. They just lost 3 nights of room revenue over 72 bucks. Anyone know why these rates would go up right now. I thought vegas was struggling.

    Mirage Rates Going Up

I think, like most places, in Vegas it%26#39;s the golden rule of supply and demand. Without knowing the dates, I imagine there is a convention of some sort at or near the hotel. We just booked three nights in April at the Mirage and the rate for our Saturday night was higher than the Tuesday night rate!

Just be careful; if you told them you%26#39;re putting extra people in the room, most hotels (Mirage included) charge $30/per person/per night over two.

    Mirage Rates Going Up

I believe it%26#39;s because of the time frame . T he rates are set so that the further out the cheaper the rate, closer to date, higher rate. Sometimes the offers are only being offered during a certain time frame and the offer expires. Sorry, remember if you like the rate and are happy with the rules book real quickly . It%26#39;s really quite common.

It must be that I booked earlier. The offer does not expire until March 31st. I didnt know the rates went up during the course of an offer. I thought they remained the same from start to finish of the offer. I was wrong wasnt I ! Thanks for educating me.

Hi vicki66. I just read your posts which completely put me in a panic because I did the same thing (booked 2 rooms on one date) and then decided to book an additional room because they charge $60.00 per night for 2 extra guests. For a couple hundred more it made more sense to book the 3rd room. This was in January and after I read your post I couldn%26#39;t remember if I followed thru. Luckily I did but I was a little surprised they wouldn%26#39;t help you out on matching that rate for your extra room. Maybe you should try calling back and speaking with someone else. I find 9 times out of 10 if you don%26#39;t like the answer or service you receive just try back and sometimes you will get lucky. If you happen to get someone who is having a bad day or just not very nice to begin with they may not be accomodating. I too thought maybe their rooms would go down as the dates got closer but I checked tonight and I am booked for 7 nights April 1-8th for $679.07 w/all taxes and a strip view room. Tonight I checked and it has climbed to $915.60 for the same dates and using the same Volcano 30 code.

I know.. I booked in January too. I thought they would go down but I was wrong. I cant believe when I told them we would just double up that they would say Ok. They never looked up my reservation, had no idea how many people in my room. Nothing. I should have done what you said and just told them I thought I booked another room. I really didnt think it would be such a big deal for them to match my rate though. Guess it was. When I got my confirmation there was a phone # for the concierge in it. I will just call that # tomorrow. I almost feel like telling them that we will stay elsewhere just for not being accomodating but I really did get a great deal to begin with. Not sure I can get a better deal in a better location on the strip anywhere else. We can put one extra person in each room but oh the tiny bathroom and 3 women! Ugh. Lol.

I still have two rooms booked at the Flamingo for the same dates as I couldn%26#39;t decide when I booked. I do keep getting e-mails from Flamingo and they have had some really great deals going. They have one that if you stay 3 nights I think you get $300.00 voucher towards a future flight. I don%26#39;t know how you feel about the Flamingo though. Most people when I posted that question liked the Mirage better.

Vegas rates can chaneg hourly there are so many fctors that control them, we once booked rooms on the Staurday AM for MGM at $59 for the midweek and $159 for the weekend, our friends booked the same rooms on the same code about 6 hours later at $79 and $139 ! The golden rule in Vegas is book a room as soon as you see a rate that you are happy with, as long as it is not a ';non rendable'; offer keep and eye on the rates if they drop call the hotel and they will will drop your rate if thego up you are locked in at a good rate. We booke a penthouse suite about 5 months in advance at Mirage at $1k per night, the price dropped and dropped and dropped and I kept calling the hotel and getting my rate changed, then about a month before we left it was back up to $1500 per night !

Remember extra people in the room in Mirage will invoke a charge its either $30 or $35 per person per night.

The previous poster is right, hotel rates in Vegas can change daily, even hourly. When they have a promotion for rooms at x number of $, once the rooms allotted for that promotion are taken, then price goes up. It is just like buying airline tickets, so many tickets/rooms are allotted at various price points, selection A is sold out, move to selection B which costs more.

Never assume that once you see a promotional rate that the rate will be that price for the duration of the promotion because that is just not so.

Also, rates for Friday and Saturday nights are much more expensive than those for Sun through Thurs nights.

I got the mirage on a FRI - Sat- Sun on april 3-6 for 320 dollars total. I thought that was a heck of a good rate for a weekend. We were going to put two girls each in 2 rooms. Now we have 6 girls and want another room. Anyone know of any better deals at a decent hotel that we could book? I hate to put 3 girls in a room at the Mirage with the tiny bathrooms. Lol. That could be a nightmare. If all else fails we will just pay the higher rate and life will go on! Also , does anyone know how much they hold on your credit card for a deposit at the Mirage?

easy to understand - two words

    supply

    demand

    What recession??

I was in Vegas last weekend. The Forum shops were packed with people. The clubs were hopping. The casinos were filled with people gambling. Restaurants were crowded. The sidewalks were jammed. All seats on the airplane were filled.

The only noticeable differences I saw were generally lower table minimums. There was $10 craps at Bellagio, Wynn %26amp; the Venetian (except on Friday %26amp; Saturday night) And we didn’t need reservations to get into any restaurant.

I expected to see noticeably thinner crowds %26amp; big sales at all of the shops.

When I went to New York City in January, signs of a crappy economy were everywhere. Empty restaurants. Every fancy store in Soho had sales of up to 50% off. The streets weren’t crowded. It felt like a recession.

Not in Vegas. It LOOKED like the money was still flowing …

Just my impression from a 5 day stay. Trip report to follow …

    What recession??

We noticed the same in New York City in November. We got a steal on our hotel there.

    What recession??

That was the weekend. It%26#39;s not the same during the week. There were a lot of situations where we were the only people. Also, just because you see people doesn%26#39;t mean they are spending the same they were a year ago.

    bring on that TR Truman

i was there a couple weeks ago, and it was empty. only friday evening at 10 did we see it fill up. kinda scary. every hotel out there is hurting. MGM corp. stock is down HUGE!!!

That;s a good thing to know! I appreciate you giving a positive take on it for once. Everyone is so depressing about it, but I am glad to hear what you had to say. 5 days is a good amount of time to get an impression on things!

    ';And we didn’t need reservations to get into any restaurant.';

On a weekend---there%26#39;s your answer. Last year on the same weekend you would be waiting in line.

No one is saying Las Vegas is a ghost town. But even if MGM is ONLY 60% occupied this means there are still 3000 rooms in use.

Speaking of rooms, how much did you pay for yours? In addition to occupancy, the average room rate is WAY DOWN, and this doesn%26#39;t even count the unusually high amount of comps.

It wasn%26#39;t only the weekend. It was also Monday and Tuesday.

    People spending money everywhere.

I will say that this was only my impression. It isn%26#39;t scientific by any means.

I understand that revenues are down in the casinos %26amp; hotels.

But it isn%26#39;t all doom and gloom on the strip. There is still a lot of life in Vegas.

Funny because in January when we arrived on our usualy Sunday morning flight (which granted is usually less crowded) the airport was like a gohost town. That trend continued all week. In fact, when we arrived at McCarran and there was less than 50 people in baggage claim we started to wonder if we were in one of those horror movies where everyone on the earth died except for the few people around you. In many trips to Vegas it was noticable to us.

We went to Atlantic City and checked in Caesar%26#39;s on a Monday. We saw about 50 people the entire evening at the casino. All the restaurants were closed. We finally grabbed a fast-food type burger at the snack bar of an adjoining casino.

We went back to AC, Thursday evening through Friday. All the Trump casinos were dead. Harrah%26#39;s was PACKED, and Tropicana was moderate.

Maybe that%26#39;s normal for AC during late-November.????

It could also be that there was a race or special event (or both) in town this past week that I was unaware of.

Perhaps it was a fluke -- just a busy week.

  • face make up
  • Paris vs. Mirage

We have a room at Paris booked 3 nights for $223. Just got an offer from Mirage for 3 nights for $297. I have stayed at the Mirage before but have never stayed at Paris

    Thanks in advance

    Paris vs. Mirage

I like both hotels a lot. I%26#39;d be tempted to check out something new and stick with Paris for this trip. However if it%26#39;s going to be pool weather and a good pool is important then definitely switch to Mirage.

    Paris vs. Mirage

I%26#39;ve stayed at both, prefer Mirage hands down.

More my cup of tea but other may feel differently.

    LL

If a pool is important (and it is in May or later....March %26amp; April you MAY get pool weather...or not..), go w/ Mirage, for sure.

Otherwise, I%26#39;d take the less expensive Paris...both have nice rooms, nice casinos, and great locations.

Both are good hotels/resorts. Mirage does win for it%26#39;s pool and renovated rooms plus a wider restaurant selection. Paris wins for it%26#39;s casino atmosphere. If you hadn%26#39;t stayed at either hotel before, I would vote for Mirage but because you%26#39;ve already stayed there, I would stick with Paris. Always cool to try new hotels in Vegas. I%26#39;ve got hotel number 10 and 11 coming up in a few months.

If you are a BJ player, better rules at Mirage. Something to consider.

    LL

I agree with LemonLime. If you play table games, Mirage is your place. I%26#39;ve stayed at both several times (most recently Paris) and they%26#39;re very comparable. Both are very nice with excellent food choices. The Mirage pool and grounds is far superior to Paris though IMHO.

Staying at Wynn..grocery store close and other questions?

I am staying at the Wynn and was wondering if there is a grocery store close by? (taxi ride) I refuse to pay 8 bucks for a bottle of water and am looking to run over to a grocery store and stock up on the snacks, soda, and water to avoid the rip off min bar prices at the Wynn.

Also good restaurants close by that also won%26#39;t break the bank?

    Coffee Shop?

    Any other tips?

Staying at Wynn..grocery store close and other questions?

Not sure about grocery stores but there is a walgreens between there and the Riviera that doesn%26#39;t gouge too bad.

Also for a coffee shop - the peppermill is a little further down, closer to the Riviera. Kady%26#39;s coffee shop inside the Riviera is pretty good and resonable priced. Open 24 hours as well.

    jim

Staying at Wynn..grocery store close and other questions?

There is an ABC store in the Fashion Show Mall across the street from Wynn.

TI is an easy walk and they have a lower priced coffee shop.

Or, it may be worth a bus ride to Downtown where those things are cheap compared to anywhere on the strip and you can enjoy the light show and a really good meal and cocktails for much less while you%26#39;re there.

There are lots and lots of better value restaurants nearby.

Try the ABC store at Fashion Mall first[Just across from the Wynn].If you don%26#39;t find what you need there, try other places.

Starbucks for coffee[also in Fashion mall]

There is a Walgreen and a CVS Pharmacy located a bit north up the strip and are across the street from each other. We went to both as we had a kitchenette in the hotel we were staying out. I would recommend going to one of those places and just taking the monorail back.

    Help me decide please!!

Going the end of May for 4 days (over a weekend).

Rates are pretty close for Ballys,S.tower, Flamingo, deluxe or Bills. Driving myself nuts trying to decide. What do you recommend?

    Thanks

    Help me decide please!!

If the pool matters it would have to be Flamingo. If not the rooms are larger and nicer at Ballys.

    Help me decide please!!

Yeah, if the pool matters it%26#39;s a no brainer- Flamingo all the way. Otherwise I%26#39;d go with Bally%26#39;s.

Pool is not a big deal.

Pool is not a big deal.

I have stayed at the Flamingo (not in the new rooms) and we loved it. Location is perfect and pool is great too.

Where ever you stay try to get along to Ballys Sterling brunch on a Sunday. Its FANTASTIC!!

Is S.Tower the Stratosphere? If so pick any of the other hotels for thier location alone.

    Have a great trip!

Not Stratosphere, South tower of Ballys.

    why just those 3?

what has attracted you to those particular properties? what amenities do you desire? total budget for the 3 nights?

I would not stay at any of them, they have horrible blackjack rules, pools, dining and locations for me, my tastes may be different than yours.

I tried to narrow it down by price and location. The stay in Vegas will be at the end of a big 3 week road trip w/another couple. I was trying to find a place that would suit all.

    Bills for me.

For location and price it is Paris for me. Pool not important to us. Pais connected to Ballys without even having to go outdoors. Have seen many say that the North tower in Ballys is the way to go. Remodeled rooms although I have not experienced myself. Bill%26#39;s gets high ratings here but I am suspect. Seems it would be a totally different experience than a bigger place. People like different things... good cause it would be boring if we were all the same. Good luck!

Anyone been to Nobu in vegas. I live in NYC and never been there and figured 4 guys going. What could we expect to pay ? we figure it should be around 120-150 per person but will we eat and be full or is it like NYC portions? Also going to Lawry%26#39;s steak and RM seafood, any suggestions?

    Nobu in Vegas

ajpslp, I have eaten at several Nobus. LV%26#39;s food is on a par with all. The ambiance is a bit too open, loud and lacking in intimacy for my taste. You will have no trouble keeping within your budget, unless you get real exotic sake. Nobu is at the Hard Rock, so it gets crowded on weekends. I prefer to sit at the bar and get omakase, but there are tables in the back part of the dining area that may work for you 4. Have a good time.

    Coupons and such

Hi all! New member here - planning my first ever trip to Vegas for 3/13. I%26#39;m a coupon/deal junkie, so I%26#39;m exploring all my options before I go. Booked flight and a night at the Paris for about $150, so i was pretty pleased with that.

Anyways, I already got the American Casino Guide and picked out all the coupons I%26#39;ll use. Any other good source for good coups? (mainly food/drink, but a little gamblin never hurt ;)

I registered for the MGM and Planet Hollywood player card online... it looks like most of the other ones have to be in person.

    Coupons and such

    Hi

Here%26#39;s a link which tells you where the freebies are when you sign up etc, plus deals on food.

    Coupons and such

There is a coupon for the Spice Market Buffet on the Destination Coupons website. You should also ask for a funbook when you check in at Paris. Finally, check the magazines in your room, in the cab and around town. You can find some deals in the LVRJ but they are more for locals casinos.

Thanks! That site seems very helpful =)

    Thanks Leo!

When you get there, you will find coupon books in the cabs and at concierge desks at check in...

    Have fun!

    Nobody mentioned Las Vegas Advisor?

    www.lasvegasadvisor.com

There%26#39;s a free section, and if you join for a year ($37 or $50) you get access to the members-only sections plus you get their booklet of discounts.

Look at the list of coupons on the website and decide if you%26#39;ll use them. There%26#39;s a 50% off Palms coupon (50% off up to $100, so if you use it for max value it basically pays for your LVA membership) that many people use.

Key for any coupon is to honestly ask yourself if you%26#39;d like to visit the place the coupon is for. If there%26#39;s a coupon for a 2-4-1 buffet, or free drink(s), but it%26#39;s at an off-strip casino you have no interest in otherwise, it may not be a good use of time and travel $$$ to go there.

    earning points at slots

When I go to vegas (heading out again in 23 days) I play the slots, but never much at any one casino. I know you earn stuff by playing, so how long does it take to say earn like 1,000 pts? Does it matter how long you play or the amount?

    earning points at slots

Time is of no significance. It%26#39;s all down to how many credits you play through a machine. Whether this is from your own cash or winnings that you ';recycle'; through the machine doesn%26#39;t matter.

Different players cards have different point earning structures. Impossible to say how much ';coin-in'; is required to earn a specific number of points without knowing which card you%26#39;re asking about.

    earning points at slots

There is no exact amount of time or the amount of $ played that gets a player to 1,000 points. That said, if gambling pennies, nickels or quarters and not betting much of those, it could take a very long time to get to 1,000 points. I play $1 slots mostly, it all depends on how much play a machine or machines give you and how long you play on when it adds up to 1,000. You can do it on a $20 investment or with an investment of hundreds of dollars. All boils down to if the machine gives a lot of play.

    Yes!

Don%26#39;t get hung up on the number of points as as absolute number; different casinos count points differently, some give 1 point for the same amount of play that others give 5 points for; the value is pretty much the same though.

It%26#39;s based mainly on the amount of ';action.'; This is the total amount you wager, doesn%26#39;t matter if it%26#39;s your original amount, or your winnings.

There%26#39;s a formula that varies by casino and in some cases by denomination; some say that the same amount of action on a $1 machine will give more points than on a $0.05 machine.

Video Poker comps are said to be around 1/2 of Slot comps, again based on the same amount of action.

You don%26#39;t say what your bankroll is; if you%26#39;re budgeting $50/day, it doesn%26#39;t matter much what you do, you most likely won%26#39;t be generating enough action to generate much in the way of points/comps.

There are also two schools of thought re: whether it%26#39;s best (from a comp point of view) to do all your playing in one place or spread it around. I don%26#39;t have any knowledge one way or the other on this, sorry.

Some advise to spend your entire trip gambling budget in one day, so it might appear to the casino%26#39;s computer system that you%26#39;re a high roller just in town for one day. (Purpose of this is to generate the emailed and regular mailed comps for free rooms, food, etc, not slot comps specifically).

Anyway, have a great trip and whatever you do, DON%26#39;T PLAY JUST FOR COMPS!!

is it wise to do this when travelling from the uk? although the prices are pretty good at most hotels, it owuld be pretty good to save a bit of money, especially as there are so many hotels. so are the rates likely to be a lot cheaper? im guessing they never really are fully booked? some advice would be great, cheers

    Book now.

If you think you might get a better rate upon arrival, that great, but have a booking as backup.

In general, showing up without a reservation is a bad idea. Usually best to go ahead and book now. If you go through the hotel, it%26#39;s usually fully refundable with 48/72 hours notice.

Showing up at a destination without a reservation may be a good idea in a lot of places but Vegas isn%26#39;t one of them. NEVER arrive in LV without a hotel booked - it%26#39;s a potential recipe for complete disaster as you could end up paying rack rates even if there are lots of available rooms and being seriously out of pocket.

Lots of great deals around right now. Take advantage of them and make a reservation.

book now with the hotels, i book mine last week for aug you can get some good rates good luck and enjoy

Yes, do book now. Showing up to Vegas without a reservation to a hotel is like showing up to an Iron Maiden concert without enthusiasm. Bad idea.

thanks all, just found some great offers through smartervegas! and i remember when i went years ago we had to state where we were staying upon arrival so wouldnt want to complicate things. cant wait to go again

Book directly with the hotel now and if the rates go down you can contact the hotel and they will give you the lower rate. Make sure you have a reservation you can cancel and keep looking. If you find something better- you can make the new reservation at the new hotel and cancel the old one- within the cancellation period.

I can%26#39;t imagine anything worse than arriving in Vegas with no reservation.

Not a good idea, especially if you%26#39;re coming from the UK. Vegas, in regular times, not these depressed times, has a hotel occupancy rate in the low 90%%26#39;s. That%26#39;s the year-round average, not just a big weekend with a big fight and a big convention going on. Book something in advance now at a rate you%26#39;re comfortable with.

I got caught in trying to find a room on a Saturday night as we came in a day early. We were calling every hotel while driving into town and every place was either booked solid or the rates were insane. Circus Circus was quoting $129.99 a night!!! And in retrospect, we should have jumped on that rate. They ended up selling out that night and we were forced to pull an all-nighter. Doesn%26#39;t seem so bad at midnight but at 4am when you start to crash, you%26#39;re just dying for a shower and a bed. We slept in the car at the Mirage%26#39;s parkade (where we had reservations the next night). I remember taking a break at 5am in the Mirage%26#39;s sportsbook. The security guard came by and said we can sit there as long as our eyes were open! He wasn%26#39;t trying to be a prick, he knew the deal and has seen it all before but he was just quoting us the rules.

There%26#39;s tons of deals on right now. Book in advance.
